Chip Resistor Reel Quantity: 220,532 of Walsin’s 234,815 Rows Name No Quantity At All

We counted the Packaging column across all 137 of Walsin’s chip resistor export files. 220,532 of 234,815 rows state no chip resistor reel quantity at all. All 14,283 rows that do name a quantity are 0201 or 01005. Above 0402, this column cannot plan a line feed.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds all 203 parametric export files published by Walsin Technology (Walsin) and 28 Walsin datasheets. This post is measured from the 137 chip resistor files in that set and from the two resistor approval sheets we hold, Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf and Walsin_MR_Automotive_Thick_Film_Chip_Resistor.pdf. Every part number below is real and every count is of part numbers, not pieces.

How many Walsin chip resistor rows actually state a reel quantity?

14,283 of 234,815, which is 6.1%. We parsed every row of all 137 chip resistor export files and found the Packaging column holds exactly seven distinct strings. One of them, the bare 7" reel taping, accounts for 220,532 rows on its own. The other six carry a piece count. Nothing is blank — the column is 100% populated and 93.9% uninformative, which is a harder problem than an empty field, because a selector will happily report it as data.

Packaging value, verbatim Rows States a quantity Case sizes it appears on
7" reel taping 220,532 No all 19 size values in the export
7" reel taping 15Kpcs 3,876 Yes 0201 only
7" reel taping 20Kpcs 3,624 Yes 0201 and 01005
7" reel taping 10Kpcs 2,907 Yes 0201 only
13" reel taping 70Kpcs 1,938 Yes 0201 only
10" reel taping 20Kpcs 969 Yes 0201 only
13" reel taping 50Kpcs 969 Yes 0201 only

We have not seen this counted anywhere. The six quantified strings appear in only 4 of the 137 files — Thick_Film_General_Purpose_1_1_20W.xlsx, Thick_Film_General_Purpose_5.xlsx, Thick_Film_General_Purpose_1_1_32W.xlsx and Thick_Film_General_Purpose_Jumper.xlsx. The other 133 files are unquantified end to end.

Which case sizes get a quantity, and which get nothing?

Two of nineteen. We grouped all 234,815 rows by the Size column. 0201(0603) holds 13,566 quantified rows and 01005(0402) holds 717. The remaining 17 size values — 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, 1218, 2010, 2512, 0612, 1020, 1225 in two spellings, 0306, 0815 and the three array codes — return zero quantified rows between them. That covers 220,532 part numbers.

The split is not even inside 0201 either. We checked all 17,827 0201 rows: 13,566 carry a format and a piece count, and 4,261 still read the bare string. The 4,261 are the High Precision Thick Film rows (3,266), the current sense rows (26) and 969 automotive-series general purpose rows.

01005 behaves the same way in miniature. Of its 755 rows, 717 read 7" reel taping 20Kpcs and 38 read the bare string. WR01X10R0FDL, a 10.0 Ω ±1% 1/32 W part, states 20,000 pieces. WR01W4R70FDL, a 4.70 Ω ±1% part in the same case size and the same file, states nothing.

What does one 0201 position look like across all six reel formats?

Six part numbers that differ in one character. We pulled every 0201 row at 100 Ω, ±1%, 1/20 W from Thick_Film_General_Purpose_1_1_20W.xlsx and counted 15 distinct part numbers at that single electrical position. Six of them are the same resistor on six different reels, and the Packaging column decodes all six. A seventh, the automotive MR02X1000FAL, shares a packaging character with one of them and is left unquantified.

Part number Size Packaging column, verbatim Match / mismatch vs a 15,000-piece 7 inch reel
WR02X1000FAL 0201 7" reel taping 15Kpcs Match on all four fields and on reel quantity
WR02X1000FTL 0201 7" reel taping 10Kpcs Match on resistance, tolerance, power; mismatch — 10,000 per reel
WR02X1000FDL 0201 7" reel taping 20Kpcs Match on the part; mismatch — 20,000 per reel
WR02X1000FQL 0201 10" reel taping 20Kpcs Mismatch — 10 inch hub, 20,000 per reel, different feeder
WR02X1000FHL 0201 13" reel taping 50Kpcs Mismatch — 13 inch hub, 50,000 per reel
WR02X1000FGL 0201 13" reel taping 70Kpcs Mismatch — 13 inch hub, 70,000 per reel
MR02X1000FAL 0201 7" reel taping Same packaging character as the first row; mismatch — no quantity stated

That last row is the defect in one line. WR02X1000FAL and MR02X1000FAL carry the identical A packaging character in the identical case size, and the export quantifies one and not the other. We will not tell you a part is equivalent to another. We will show you where it differs, including where the difference is only in what the data says.

Does the part number tell you the reel when the column does not?

Yes, and this is the part that makes the column redundant rather than merely thin. The MR approval sheet we hold, revision ASC_MR_V13 Mar - 2024, prints the catalogue-number key as MR12 X 472_ J T L, where the second-to-last character is the packaging code and the last is the termination code. It lists T as 7 inch reeled taping, Q as 10 inch, G as 13 inch, plus H for a 13 inch 50,000-piece reel, D for a 7 inch 20,000-piece reel, A for a 7 inch 15,000-piece reel and B for bulk.

Read against that key, the six part numbers in the table above are not six specifications. They are one specification and six packaging characters, and the reel is legible from the part number for every case size in the catalogue — including the 220,532 rows where the column refuses to say so.

How many pieces is a bare 7 inch reel taping at 1206, then?

5,000 pieces, and at 0402 the same string means 10,000. We read page 6 of Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf: for WR12, WR08 and WR06 it states 8 mm paper taping at 5,000 pieces per 7 inch reel, 10,000 per 10 inch and 20,000 per 13 inch, with bulk at 5,000 per poly-bag. Page 7 covers WR04 separately at 10,000 per 7 inch reel, 20,000 per 10 inch and 70,000 per 13 inch, bulk 10,000.

So the single string 7" reel taping is carrying two different piece counts depending on a case size the column does not repeat. A buyer who pastes WR12X1000FTL and WR04X1000FTL into the same sheet sees identical packaging text against a 2:1 difference in reel content. The MR sheet states the same two tiers for 1210, 1206, 0805 and 0603 against 0402.

The hub diameters are at least unambiguous. Page 10 of the WR sheet gives 7 inch as 178.0 ±2.0 mm, 10 inch as 254.0 ±2.0 mm and 13 inch as 330.0 ±2.0 mm. Those three numbers are the only packaging figures in this post that the export and the datasheet agree on.

Do the MLCC export’s Packing and SPQ columns do any better?

No. They are worse, because they look like the right columns. We opened 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx and checked both: the Packing column is empty on all 24,026 rows and the SPQ column is empty on all 24,026 rows. Two columns named for exactly the question a buyer is asking, and between them they hold zero values.

The chip resistor export does not carry an SPQ column at all. Its ten columns are Part Number, Series Group, Series, Size, Resistance, Tolerance, TCR, Rated Power, Packaging and Termination. The Termination column, for what it is worth, reads Sn base (Lead free) on all 234,815 rows — a field that is fully populated, fully consistent and tells you nothing you could not read off the L at the end of the part number.

For the related case-size trap on the capacitor side, see metric case sizes and why 0603 names two parts. For why these part numbers break a spreadsheet before they break a line feed, see why Walsin part numbers do not paste into your BOM.

What should a buyer planning a line feed do instead?

Use three sources in this order, because no single one of them is complete. We hold a dated stock snapshot whose SPQ column is filled on 254 of 254 chip resistor codes: 167 at 5,000 pieces, 80 at 10,000, 4 at 15,000, 2 at 4,000 and 1 at 1,000. That is a real answer for 254 part numbers. Across all 1,125 codes in the snapshot, SPQ is filled on 501.

  1. Read the packaging character off the part number, not the column. The second-to-last character is the reel format on every chip resistor code in the catalogue. T, Q, G, H, D, A and B are defined in the approval sheet, and the character survives a BOM paste intact.
  2. Take the piece count from the approval sheet for your case size. 5,000 per 7 inch reel at 1206, 0805, 0603 and 1210; 10,000 per 7 inch reel at 0402. Ask us for the sheet covering your part number and it arrives as a PDF, not a brochure.
  3. Cross the whole list in one pass. Paste up to 500 part numbers or drop your Excel or CSV into the free cross-reference tool. It is matched against Walsin’s published catalogue and returns candidates field by field, with every difference from your original stated rather than hidden. Filter by commercial or automotive grade, or for soft termination, high temperature, safety certified, high Q / low ESR or low profile.
  4. Confirm the SPQ against what is physically in Hong Kong on ready stock. That page is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, not a live feed, and 254 of its 1,125 codes are chip resistors.

For the resistance and power envelope behind these codes, see chip resistor power rating by case size. The full range sits on the Walsin chip resistor page.

The short version

The Packaging column in Walsin’s chip resistor export is fully populated and almost entirely uninformative. 220,532 of 234,815 rows read 7" reel taping with no piece count. All 14,283 quantified rows are 0201 or 01005, and 0201 alone carries six reel formats while 17 other case sizes carry none. The same A packaging character is quantified on WR02X1000FAL and unquantified on MR02X1000FAL. The information exists: the packaging character is in the part number and the piece count is on page 6 and page 7 of the WR approval sheet, which is why the bare string means 5,000 pieces at 1206 and 10,000 at 0402. On the capacitor side the Packing and SPQ columns are empty on all 24,026 rows. Qualification and purchase-order release stay with you.

Send us the resistor lines off your BOM and we will come back with the packaging character decoded, the per-reel piece count from the approval sheet for your case size, and which of them was in Hong Kong on 23 September 2026. If you have ever been shipped a 5,000-piece reel against a 10,000-piece plan because a column said 7" reel taping, tell us which part number did it — that is the example we want in front of Walsin.

How many pieces are on a Walsin 7 inch chip resistor reel?

It depends on case size, and the export does not say. Page 6 of the WR approval sheet states 5,000 pieces per 7 inch reel for 1206, 0805 and 0603; page 7 states 10,000 for 0402. We counted 220,532 export rows carrying the bare string 7" reel taping, which covers both figures without distinguishing them.

Why does Walsin’s Packaging column show no quantity for most chip resistors?

We parsed all 137 chip resistor export files and the column holds seven distinct strings. Only six carry a piece count, and they appear in just 4 of the 137 files, all Thick Film General Purpose. The seventh, 7" reel taping, covers 220,532 of 234,815 rows and every case size in the catalogue.

Which Walsin chip resistor case sizes state a reel quantity in the export?

Only 0201(0603) and 01005(0402). We measured 13,566 quantified 0201 rows and 717 quantified 01005 rows, 14,283 in total. The other 17 size values in the export return zero quantified rows. 4,261 of the 17,827 0201 rows are still unquantified, mostly High Precision Thick Film parts.

Can I read the reel format from a Walsin chip resistor part number?

Yes. The second-to-last character is the packaging code, defined in both approval sheets we hold: T is 7 inch reeled taping, Q is 10 inch, G is 13 inch, H is a 13 inch 50,000-piece reel, D a 7 inch 20,000-piece reel, A a 7 inch 15,000-piece reel and B bulk. The last character is the termination code.

Does the Walsin MLCC export carry a packing or SPQ column?

It carries both, and we checked every row: Packing is empty on all 24,026 rows and SPQ is empty on all 24,026 rows. The chip resistor export has no SPQ column at all. Neither file will give you a standard pack quantity, which is why we quote SPQ from the dated stock snapshot instead.

Where does Venatech get a standard pack quantity, then?

From the dated ready stock snapshot and the approval sheet. In the snapshot as at 23 September 2026 the SPQ column is filled on all 254 chip resistor codes — 167 at 5,000 pieces, 80 at 10,000, 4 at 15,000, 2 at 4,000 and 1 at 1,000. Across all 1,125 codes it is filled on 501.

Do you hold a datasheet for Walsin’s 0201 and 01005 chip resistors?

No. We hold two chip resistor approval sheets, Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf covering WR12 to WR04 and Walsin_MR_Automotive_Thick_Film_Chip_Resistor.pdf covering MR10 to MR04. Neither lists 0201 or 01005 as a size code. So the two case sizes the export quantifies are the two we cannot cross-check. We say so rather than implying coverage.
