Product Change Notification for Passive Components in France: The Document That Does Not Exist on a Ten-Year Programme

We searched all 451 pages of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold for the words “revision”, “notification” and “PCN”. All three return zero. Product change notification for passive components is the document a ten-year rail, medical or defence programme needs most, and it is not in the documents we hold. Here is exactly what is.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 Walsin Technology (Walsin) datasheets totalling 451 pages, and we extracted every character of them — 863,028 in total — to count what is in them and what is not. This post is written for a buyer in France whose programme runs ten years and whose change-control clause has a blank where the supplier’s notification commitment should be. Every part number below is real.

What does Walsin’s own catalogue say about changing or withdrawing a product?

It says the opposite of what a ten-year programme needs, and it says it once. We read all 65 pages of 00_MLCC_Full_Catalogue.pdf. On page 3, directly beneath the contents list, it states:

The specifications are subject to change or our products in it may be discontinued without advance notice. Please check with our sales representatives or product engineers before ordering.

That is the only occurrence of that word in 451 pages. We hold no affected-part list for any manufacturer, Walsin included, and we will not assert that any specific part, series or family is affected — the sentence above is a general reservation of right in a catalogue, not a statement about any part number. Two paragraphs down, the same page adds that the catalogue “has only typical specifications” and asks the reader to “transact the approval sheet for product specifications before ordering”. Twenty-seven of the 28 documents we hold carry a narrower version of the same reservation on page one: “*Contents in this sheet are subject to change without prior notice.”

So Walsin has told you, in writing, which document is contractual — the approval sheet, not the catalogue — and has reserved the right to change it without telling you. Both halves of that are reasonable from a manufacturer. Neither is survivable on a programme that must build the same board in 2036.

How many of the 28 datasheets we hold can you pin to a revision?

Two. We read the footer of every page of all 28 documents. Exactly two carry a numbered revision: ASC_MR_V13 on the MR automotive chip resistor sheet, dated March 2024, and ASC_WR_V24 on the WR general purpose sheet, dated September 2016. The other 26 carry a document name and a month — for example “ASC_ Automotive Cap_(MT) Aug. 2026” — with no number anywhere. On 26 of 28 documents you cannot state which revision you qualified against. You can only state which month you downloaded it.

Part number Line Governing document we hold Revision identity in its footer Match / mismatch vs “pinnable on a ten-year programme”
MR06X1002FTL Chip resistor, MR automotive 0603 Walsin_MR_Automotive_Thick_Film_Chip_Resistor.pdf ASC_MR_V13, Mar 2024 Match on revision number; mismatch — V13 implies twelve earlier issues and we hold none of them
WR06X1002FTL Chip resistor, WR general purpose 0603 Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf ASC_WR_V24, SEP 2016 Match on revision number; mismatch — the sheet is ten years old
0603B104K500 MLCC, General Purpose 0603 X7R 01_General_Purpose.pdf “ASC_General Purpose Series Sep. 2026” — month only Mismatch — no revision number to cite in a change-control clause
MT18B104K250 MLCC, MT automotive 0603 X7R 11_Automotive_MT.pdf “ASC_ Automotive Cap_(MT) Aug. 2026” — month only Mismatch — no matching revision field; AEC-Q200 compliant, still unpinnable
S242B102K502 MLCC, S2 safety X1/Y2 1808 16_Safety_X1Y2_General_S2.pdf “ASC Safety Certified X1/Y2_(S2) Apr.2026” — month only Mismatch — the safety-certified line is no better documented than the general line
HT15G331J500 MLCC, HT 150 °C 0402 X8G 15_High_Temperature_HT_150C.pdf “WTC_MLCC_High_Temperature_HT Apr. 2026” — month only Mismatch — month only, and two naming conventions coexist across the library
SH18B101K100 MLCC, SH soft termination 0603 X7R 19_Soft_Term_SH.pdf “ASC_Soft termination_(SH) Sep. 2026” — month only Mismatch — month only

We have not seen this counted anywhere, and it is the cheapest thing on this page for a reader to verify: open any Walsin series datasheet, look at the footer, and see whether there is a number in it.

Does any Walsin document we hold contain a revision history?

No, and the absence is total rather than partial. We ran a case-insensitive search for “revision”, “revised”, “version”, “version history”, “amend” and “change control” across all 451 pages. Every one of those six terms returns zero occurrences. Not one of the 28 documents carries a revision table listing what changed, when, and which clause it touched.

What a ten-year change-control clause asks for Occurrences in the 451 pages we hold
the word “revision” 0
the word “notification”, or “notify” 0
“PCN”, “ECN” or “DCN” as a standalone term 0
“change control” 0
the phrase “end-of-life”, or “last time buy” — we hold no document using either 0
“lifecycle” or “life cycle” 0
“traceability” 0
a numbered document revision 2 documents of 28
a revision history table 0 documents of 28

“PCN policy” and “counterfeit policy” are two of the eighteen document types that appear nowhere in our 451 pages, alongside REACH, SVHC, PFAS, China RoHS, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, PPAP, IMDS, VDA, a qualification report and a Declaration of Conformity. Every one of those is phrased as not in the documents we hold — we are not telling you Walsin does not have them. We are telling you what is in our library, because we have read it and counted it and nobody else publishes that.

Do we hold an affected-part list for any manufacturer?

No — not for Walsin and not for any of the other manufacturers whose part numbers our tool decodes. That matters more than it sounds, because it is the sentence most distributors avoid. We hold no list that says any specific part number is discontinued, withdrawn or scheduled to stop, and we will not assert one. 18 manufacturers’ part numbers are decoded by our cross-reference tool across 800,000+ crossable Walsin parts, and not one of those decoders carries lifecycle status, because no manufacturer publishes it in the parametric data we have.

We checked the Walsin exports for it directly: across all 203 export files there is no column anywhere for lifecycle, RoHS, REACH, lead time, operating temperature or qualification status. The chip resistor schema is ten columns — Part Number, Series Group, Series, Size, Resistance, Tolerance, TCR, Rated Power, Packaging, Termination — and none is a status field. A DataSheet URL column exists in one file of 203. The lifecycle answer is not in the data and not in the 451 pages.

What should a change-notification arrangement for a French ten-year programme actually say?

Four clauses, and the first is the one that is usually missing. A programme that must rebuild the same board in 2036 needs the document identity pinned before it needs a notice period, because without a revision number there is nothing for a notice to refer to. Only 2 of our 28 documents give you that today.

  1. Pin the document. Require the governing approval sheet by filename and revision for every part number on the bill of materials, and store the PDF with the build record. Where the footer gives a month and no number — 26 of 28 documents — record the month and the date you received it, and say in the clause that this is what was available.
  2. Name the trigger, not just the notice period. Dimensional change, termination finish, dielectric formulation, factory, and any change that invalidates the qualification you ran. A notice period attached to an undefined trigger is decorative.
  3. Require the affected-part list with the notice. Our position is that we hold no such list and will not pretend to; a notification without one is an announcement, not an action item.
  4. Put a buffer behind it. Stock you can see is the only clause that works without the manufacturer’s cooperation. Ready stock is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, covering 1,125 part numbers held in Hong Kong — not a live feed, and we date it for exactly that reason.

What can a buyer in France get from us today?

A specific list, all of it checkable. Twenty-eight Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, sent by email against your part number rather than described in a brochure. Lot and date-code traceability. A certificate of conformity per shipment on request. Original sealed Walsin packaging. Four named locations — Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. Authorised Walsin Technology distributor status in Hong Kong, confirmable with Walsin directly. And UL file E182369 on the safety capacitor line, searchable in UL’s own public database in about thirty seconds.

The fastest practical step is to cross the whole list in one pass rather than chasing documents part by part. Paste up to 500 part numbers or drop your Excel or CSV into the free cross-reference tool. It is matched against Walsin’s published catalogue, returns candidates field by field, and states every difference from your original instead of hiding it.

For what to do when a notice does land on your desk, see you have been handed an EOL notice, now what — written on the same basis, that we hold no affected-part list. For the traceability documents that do exist, see certificate of conformity, lot codes and date codes. The capacitor range is on the Walsin MLCC page.

The short version

Walsin’s full catalogue reserves, on page 3, the right to change specifications or withdraw products without advance notice, and tells you the approval sheet rather than the catalogue is the document to transact against. We hold no affected-part list for any manufacturer and we never claim one. Across the 451 pages we hold, “revision”, “notification”, “change control”, “traceability”, “lifecycle” and “last time buy” each return zero occurrences; two documents of 28 carry a numbered revision and none carries a revision history. No column in any of the 203 export files states a part’s status. On a ten-year programme the missing document is not a nuisance — it is the single largest uncontrolled risk on the bill of materials, and the first clause to write is the one that pins the document identity.

Send us the bill of materials for your ten-year programme and we will come back with the governing Walsin datasheet and revision footer for every line we can match, a straight blank where we cannot, and what was physically in Hong Kong on 23 September 2026. Then tell us what your change-control clause demands that we cannot yet evidence: that is the clause we take to Walsin first, and your programme is the reason it gets asked.

Does Walsin publish a product change notification policy?

Not in the documents we hold. We searched all 451 pages of the 28 Walsin datasheets in our library for “PCN”, “notification”, “notify”, “change control” and “revision”. Every one of those returns zero occurrences. “PCN policy” is one of eighteen document types absent from our library, and a written change-notification arrangement is on our request list to Walsin.

What exactly does Walsin’s catalogue say about withdrawing a product?

Page 3 of the 65-page full MLCC catalogue states that specifications are subject to change or products in it may be withdrawn without advance notice, and asks the reader to check with sales or product engineers before ordering. That is a general reservation of right. We hold no list identifying any affected part number and we do not infer one from it.

How do I pin the Walsin datasheet revision my programme qualified against?

Only two of the 28 documents we hold make that possible from the footer alone: the MR automotive chip resistor sheet at revision ASC_MR_V13, March 2024, and the WR general purpose sheet at ASC_WR_V24, September 2016. The other 26 give a document name and a month. Record the month and the date you received the file.

Is there a lifecycle or status field in Walsin’s parametric data?

No. We checked every column header across all 203 Walsin export files. There is no lifecycle, status, RoHS, REACH, lead time, operating temperature or qualification column anywhere. The chip resistor schema is ten columns wide and none of them is a status field. A DataSheet URL column exists in exactly one file of the 203.

Does Venatech hold an affected-part list for any manufacturer?

No. We hold no such list for Walsin or for any of the manufacturers whose part numbers our cross-reference tool decodes, and we will not assert that a given part, series or family has stopped. That is why our cross results state differences field by field and leave the lifecycle question open rather than answering it with a guess.

What can a rail, medical or defence buyer in France evidence from Venatech?

Twenty-eight Walsin datasheets totalling 451 pages against your part numbers, lot and date-code traceability, a certificate of conformity per shipment on request, original sealed Walsin packaging, authorised Walsin Technology distributor status in Hong Kong, and UL file E182369 on the safety capacitor line, searchable in UL’s own public database.

What should go into a change-control clause for a ten-year build?

Pin the governing document by filename and revision; define the change triggers rather than only a notice period; require an affected-part list with any notice; and hold a buffer, because stock is the only clause that works without the manufacturer’s cooperation. Our ready-stock page is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, covering 1,125 part numbers.
