MLCC Termination Adhesive Strength for Sweden: 24 Walsin Sheets Print 10 Force Schemes, and an 0805 Is Pushed at 9.8, 10 or 18 N

MLCC termination adhesive strength is not one test. We read all 24 Walsin series sheets for Swedish design reviews: they print 10 schemes, an 0805 part is pushed at 9.8, 10 or 18 newtons by sheet, and the hold is 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. 2,294 of 24,026 export rows sit under the 60 second sheets.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 datasheets from Walsin Technology (Walsin), 451 pages, and the parametric export behind them. This post is written from the row called Adhesive Strength of Termination or Terminal Strength in the 24 MLCC series PDFs in _Walsin_Datasheets/MLCC/, and from the 24,026 rows of 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx. Every part number is real. The question is one a Swedish automotive or industrial design review asks when it compares a termination-strength line across two datasheets: are they the same test?

How many different termination push forces do Walsin’s 24 MLCC series sheets print?

Ten schemes. We opened each of the 24 series sheets and read the pressurizing force, the test time and the size bands. 18 sheets hold the force for 10±1 seconds, 5 hold it for 60±1 seconds, and the feed-through sheet uses 30 seconds on one part prefix and 5 seconds on another. The 12-page application guide prints no push force, and the 65-page catalogue prints one, the RF scheme, in its text layer.

What force and duration does an 0805 part see, series by series?

Three forces and three durations. We mapped every export row to its own series sheet and grouped by case size. Of 4,912 parts at 0805, 4,367 are pushed at 10 N for 10 seconds, 538 at 18 N for 60 seconds (MT 512, ST 26) and 7 at 9.8 N for 30 seconds (the FT feed-through parts). The same case size, three tests.

Sizes not shown (01005, 0306, 0505, 1111, 1210 and above) hold the remaining 4,329 rows. At 1210 the split is 1,270 rows at 10 N and 100 at 18 N.

Where do the automotive sheets and the commercial sheets disagree?

Not in one direction. We compared a commercial and an automotive part at each size. At 0402 the automotive sheets print a lower force, 2 N against 5 N. At 0603 they print twice the force, 10 N against 5 N. At 0805 and above they print 18 N against 10 N, a factor of 1.8. And the MG series, an automotive series that is not AEC-Q200-labelled, follows the commercial sheet: 289 MG parts at 0805 and above are pushed at 10 N for 10 seconds.

The MT, ST, VT and RT sheets also add acceptance criteria that the commercial sheets do not: after the push, capacitance must stay within the specified tolerance and the quality factor or dissipation factor must hold. The commercial sheets ask for “no remarkable damage or removal of the terminations” and nothing else. The test is labelled AEC-Q200-006, and Walsin’s sheets use the word compliant; ask for the qualification report for the exact part number, because Venatech makes no qualification claim of its own. The series split itself is in AEC-Q200 MLCC: MT against MG.

Which size bands do the sheets leave ambiguous?

Two, and we counted both. The first is an overlap. Five sheets print “2 N (0201) and 5 N (up to 0603)”, and 0201 is itself up to 0603. We counted the 0201 parts under those sheets: 1,371, made up of General Purpose 1,118, HH 217 and MG 36. The intent is clearly 2 N, the more specific band, but the text names two forces for the same part.

The second is a size name that sorts below 0603 and measures above it. The RF sheet bands by name: “0402 to 0603: 5N” and “above 0603: 10N”. We measured the 97 RF parts named 0505 from the length and width columns: 1.40 by 1.40 mm, 1.96 square mm. A 0603 measures 1.60 by 0.80 mm, 1.28 square mm. A 0505 has 1.53 times the area of a 0603 and sits inside the 5 N band by name.

Does any sheet print a measured termination strength?

No. We read the Requirements column of the row in all 24 sheets. Every sheet prints a test force and a pass condition, “no remarkable damage or removal of the terminations”, and none prints a measured breaking force or a typical result. A force on a datasheet is therefore the level a part is tested at, not the force it fails at. That is why the 18 N against 10 N difference is a difference in test severity and tells you nothing about how strong either part is. The beam-load test in the AEC-Q200 sheets is a separate row that we did not count here.

What should a Swedish design review ask for?

The test condition per part number, not per series. Three rules follow from the counts above: 10 schemes in 24 sheets, 3 forces at 0805, and 2,294 rows at 60 seconds.

  1. Quote force and time together. 18 N for 60 seconds on MT21B102K500 and 10 N for 10 seconds on 0805B101J101 are different tests, and a line that says only “terminal strength” hides it.
  2. Name the governing sheet and its date. The sheets run from Jan. 2026 (feed-through) to Sep. 2026 (General Purpose, ST, RT). Ask which revision your part number was released under.
  3. Treat 0505 and the 0201 overlap as open questions until Walsin confirms the band in writing.

We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and send the one covering your part number on request. For thin film, inductors, varistors, disc capacitors, RF filters, couplers and baluns, and antennas we hold no datasheet, so none of this applies there. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit. To cross a whole list in one pass, use the free MLCC cross-reference tool: paste up to 500 part numbers or drop an Excel or CSV. What Hong Kong holds is on ready stock, 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026, a dated snapshot and not a live feed. The range sits on the MLCC page, and the mounting side is in MLCC reflow profile and mounting.

The short version

Walsin’s 24 MLCC series sheets print the termination push test in 10 schemes: 18 sheets hold the force for 10 seconds, 5 for 60 seconds, and one for 30 or 5. An 0805 part is pushed at 9.8, 10 or 18 N. The automotive MT and ST sheets are lower than commercial at 0402 (2 N against 5 N), double at 0603 (10 N against 5 N) and 1.8 times at 0805 and above (18 N against 10 N); 2,294 of 24,026 rows sit under them. MG, the other automotive series, follows the commercial 10 N. No sheet prints a measured strength. We will not tell you two parts match on termination strength. We will show you the force and the time each sheet prints. Qualification stays with you.

Send us the part numbers on your qualification list and we will name the governing sheet, the force and the time for each, and say plainly where the band is unclear. And a question back: when your review compares terminal strength across two datasheets, does it compare the time as well as the newtons?

Frequently asked questions

How much force do Walsin MLCC termination push tests use?

It depends on the sheet and the size. The 24 series sheets print 10 schemes, from 1 newton on the 01005 sheet to 18 newtons on the MT and ST automotive sheets. An 0805 part is pushed at 9.8, 10 or 18 newtons, and the hold time is 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds.

Is the automotive MLCC push test harder than the commercial one?

Not at every size. At 0402 the MT and ST sheets print 2 newtons against the commercial 5. At 0603 they print 10 against 5, and at 0805 and above 18 against 10. They also hold the force for 60 seconds against 10, so the tests are not directly comparable.

Does Sweden require a different termination strength for MLCC?

We hold no Swedish requirement and do not state one. This post compares only what Walsin’s own sheets print. A Swedish design review should name the force, the time and the governing sheet for each part number, because 10 schemes exist across 24 sheets.

Do all Walsin automotive MLCC use the 18 N test?

No. Of the automotive series in the export, MT and ST print 18 newtons for 60 seconds at 0805 and above, covering 985 part numbers. The MG series sheet prints 10 newtons for 10 seconds at the same sizes, covering 289 MG parts at 0805 and above.

What does an 18 N pass tell me about the strength of a termination?

Only that the termination showed no remarkable damage at that force. We read all 24 sheets and none prints a measured breaking force. The force is the test level, so a higher figure on one sheet describes a harder test, not a stronger part.

Which sizes does the termination strength band leave unclear?

Two groups. 1,371 parts at 0201 in the General Purpose, HH and MG series fall under both a 2 newton 0201 band and a 5 newton band for sizes up to 0603. 97 RF parts named 0505 measure 1.53 times the area of a 0603 and are banded by name only.
