A Walsin MLCC datasheet states its capacitance range twice, and the two statements disagree in 3 of the 21 dielectric columns we compared. We read 21,252 export rows against both: 43 sit outside the summary line, the grid, or both. The mlcc capacitance range datasheet line alone is not enough to select on.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 datasheets from Walsin Technology (Walsin), 451 pages. This post is written from the first 14 of the 26 MLCC PDFs, in alphabetical order: the application guide, the full catalogue and 12 series approval sheets. Nine of those 12 sheets have rows in the parametric export, and we parsed all of them. Every part number below is real. The question is the one a selector asks first: if the sheet says 100 pF to 47 uF, is every part in that range, and is every part in the range printed on the sheet?
Where does a Walsin MLCC sheet state its capacitance range?
In two places, a page or more apart. Section 6, “General electrical data”, prints one “Capacitance range” line per dielectric, such as “0.1pF to 0.047uF” for NP0. Section 7, “Capacitance range”, prints a grid with one row per capacitance step and one column per voltage, and each filled cell carries a letter naming the product thickness. Across the 12 series sheets we opened, nine have export rows, and they hold 21 dielectric columns between them.
| Sheet we opened (footer date) | Dielectric columns compared | Export rows read | Match / mismatch against the export |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Purpose (Sep. 2026) | 5: NP0, X7R, X5R, X6S, X7S | 8,454 | Mismatch on 2 columns |
| Ultra Small 01R5 (May 2026) | 3: NP0, X7R, X5R | 317 | Mismatch on 1 column |
| Large Size 1825 / 2220 / 2225 (Apr. 2026) | 2: NP0, X7R | 501 | Mismatch on 1 column |
| Middle and High Voltage (Sep. 2026) | 2: NP0, X7R | 4,095 | Mismatch on 1 column |
| Microwave RF (Apr. 2026) | 2: NP0, X8G | 3,611 | Match on both |
| Microwave Narrow Tolerance UF (Apr. 2026) | 1: NP0 | 285 | Match |
| High Q / Low ESR HH (Sep. 2026) | 1: NP0 | 1,707 | Mismatch on 1 column |
| Automotive MT (Aug. 2026) | 3: X8G, NP0, X7R | 1,277 | Mismatch on 2 columns |
| Soft Term Automotive ST (Sep. 2026) | 2: NP0, X7R | 118 | Match on both |
The other three sheets in our half have no export rows to read: the RH microwave and RT automotive microwave series, and the Surface Coating sheet, which is a termination variant of the Middle and High Voltage range. We excluded 28 rows whose capacitance column contradicts their own part-number code; that defect is published in 28 of 24,026 MLCC capacitance codes disagree.
Do the summary line and the capacitance grid agree?
On 18 of 21 columns, exactly. On three they do not, and in each case we measured the grid by reading the lowest and highest filled cell. General Purpose X6S says 0.1 uF to 100 uF in section 6 but its own grid starts at 2,200 pF. Large Size X7R says 1000 pF to 47 uF but its grid starts at 270 pF. High Q / Low ESR NP0 says 0.1 pF to 3300 pF but its grid starts at 0.2 pF.
| Sheet and dielectric | Summary line, section 6 | Grid, section 7 | Export lowest to highest | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General Purpose, X6S (summary p. 4, grid p. 10) | 0.1 uF to 100 uF | 2,200 pF to 100 uF | 2,200 pF to 100 uF | Export matches the grid; 16 rows sit below the summary line, e.g. 0201S222M100 at 2,200 pF |
| Large Size, X7R (summary p. 2, grid p. 4) | 1000 pF to 47 uF | 270 pF to 47 uF | 270 pF to 47 uF | Export matches the grid; 13 rows sit below the summary line, e.g. 1825B271K402 at 270 pF, 4000 Vdc |
| High Q / Low ESR, NP0 (summary p. 3, grid p. 4) | 0.1 pF to 3300 pF | 0.2 pF to 3300 pF | 0.1 pF to 3300 pF | Export matches the summary; 5 rows sit below the grid, e.g. HH15N0R1A500 at 0.1 pF |
We have not seen this counted anywhere. In two of the three, the summary line is the stale statement and the export follows the grid; in the third the reverse holds. A reader who quotes the section 6 line into a BOM note is right on 18 sheets-and-dielectrics out of 21, and wrong on 3 without any warning on the page. The Large Size X7R case is the sharpest: a 270 pF part at 4000 Vdc is exactly what a high-voltage snubber design looks for, and it is invisible if you filter on the summary line. Large-size body dimensions have their own mismatch, covered in a separate post on the 1825, 2220 and 2225 length tolerance.
How many export rows sit outside the printed range?
43 rows, from 21,252 compared. 38 rows lie outside the section 6 summary line and 14 lie outside the section 7 grid; 29 are outside the summary but inside the grid, 5 are inside the summary but outside the grid, and 9 are outside both. Eight of the 21 columns hold at least one such row. None of the 43 part numbers appears on our Hong Kong ready-stock snapshot of 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026.
| Sheet and dielectric | Rows outside summary | Rows outside grid | Example part | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General Purpose X5R | 2 | 2 | 0402X180K500, 18 pF |
Mismatch against both: summary and grid start at 100 pF |
| General Purpose X6S | 16 | 0 | 0201S473K4R0, 47 nF |
Match to grid, mismatch to summary |
| Ultra Small 01R5 X5R | 4 | 4 | 01R5X101K100, 100 pF |
Mismatch against both: summary and grid start at 1000 pF |
| Large Size X7R | 13 | 0 | 2225B471K302, 470 pF |
Match to grid, mismatch to summary |
| Middle and High Voltage X7R | 1 | 1 | 1210B680J202, 68 pF, 2000 Vdc |
Mismatch against both: both start at 100 pF |
| High Q / Low ESR NP0 | 0 | 5 | HH15N0R1B500, 0.1 pF |
Match to summary, mismatch to grid |
| Automotive MT NP0 | 1 | 1 | MT31N104J500, 100 nF |
Mismatch against both: both stop at 0.047 uF |
| Automotive MT X7R | 1 | 1 | MT18B470J500, 47 pF |
Mismatch against both: both start at 100 pF |
The nine rows outside both are the ones to ask about. Eight of them sit on sheets that print a footnote inviting a call to the Walsin representative about “products with special capacitance or other data”; the ninth, 1210B680J202, sits on the Middle and High Voltage sheet, which prints no such note. That footnote is a plausible explanation for the eight, and it is only a plausible one. The sheets do not say that the export rows are the special-capacitance parts.
What does the 0.1 pF only-B-tolerance note do to the export?
It is contradicted by half the rows it covers. The High Q / Low ESR sheet (page 3) and the Automotive MT sheet (page 3) both print a footnote that a 0.1 pF product provides the B tolerance, plus or minus 0.1 pF, only. We counted every export row at 0.1 pF in those two series: 8 rows, of which 4 carry a different tolerance letter.
| Part number | Series | Capacitance | Tolerance in the export | Match / mismatch against the “B only” footnote |
|---|---|---|---|---|
HH15N0R1B500 |
High Q / Low ESR | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.1 pF | Match |
HH03N0R1B500 |
High Q / Low ESR | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.1 pF | Match |
HH15N0R1A500 |
High Q / Low ESR | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.05 pF | Mismatch: A, not B |
HH15N0R1C500 |
High Q / Low ESR | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.25 pF | Mismatch: C, not B |
MT03N0R1A500 |
Automotive MT | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.05 pF | Mismatch: A, not B |
MT15N0R1B500 |
Automotive MT | 0.1 pF | plus or minus 0.1 pF | Match |
The table shows six of the eight; the other two are HH15N0R1C160 (C, mismatch) and MT03N0R1B500 (B, match). The MT summary line makes the same point against itself: it lists A, B and C as available for 5 pF and below, and the footnote on the same page withdraws A at 0.1 pF.
Can a part outside the grid be ordered?
We cannot say from the documents we hold, and we will not guess. The export lists the part, and the sheet does not. Eight sheets in our half print a note that special capacitance values are available through a Walsin representative, so the sheet leaves room for parts that the grid omits; it does not tell you that these 43 are those parts. Treat any row outside the grid as unconfirmed until the exact part number is confirmed.
That is the same discipline as any cross-reference. Paste the part into the free cross-reference tool and it shows the Walsin candidates with every difference stated, not hidden behind a tick. For a part that is physically on a shelf in Hong Kong, check ready stock: 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026, a dated snapshot and not a live feed.
How should an engineer read a capacitance range off a Walsin sheet?
In this order, which we apply ourselves when a customer sends a BOM. Three steps, each tied to a count above.
- Use the section 7 grid for existence, not the section 6 line. The grid wins on 2 of the 3 disagreements and carries the thickness letter you need for board clearance. See how Walsin MLCC part numbers decode for the thickness code.
- Use the export for the part number, and distrust any row outside both. Nine rows are outside both statements.
- Read the footnotes. The “0.1 pF only B” note is contradicted by 4 of 8 rows. Footnotes decide what is orderable, and a parametric filter cannot see them.
We hold the General Purpose, Large Size, High Q / Low ESR, MT and the other sheets named here, and send any of them on request. For the thin film, inductor, varistor, disc capacitor, RF and antenna lines we hold no datasheet, so none of this checking is possible there and every specification should be confirmed on Walsin’s own site. The MLCC range itself sits on the MLCC page.
The short version
A Walsin MLCC sheet prints its capacitance range as a summary line and as a grid, and the two agree on 18 of 21 dielectric columns we compared and disagree on 3. General Purpose X6S starts at 2,200 pF in the grid and 0.1 uF in the summary; Large Size X7R starts at 270 pF in the grid and 1000 pF in the summary. Of 21,252 export rows, 43 fall outside one or both, nine outside both. The 0.1 pF “B tolerance only” footnote is contradicted by 4 of the 8 rows it covers. We will not tell you a part matches because it sits in a range. We will show you which statement it sits in. Qualification stays with you.
Send us the capacitance and voltage off your drawing and we will tell you which statement covers it. And a question back: when your selector filtered on the datasheet’s range line, how many parts did it never show you?
Frequently asked questions
Where do Walsin MLCC datasheets state the capacitance range?
Twice. Section 6, general electrical data, prints a single range line per dielectric, for example 0.1 pF to 0.047 uF for NP0. Section 7 prints a grid of capacitance steps against voltages, with a thickness letter in each filled cell. Across the 12 series sheets we opened, those two statements describe 21 dielectric columns, and they disagree on 3.
Do the summary line and the capacitance grid always agree?
No. They agree on 18 of 21 columns. General Purpose X6S prints 0.1 uF as its lowest value in the summary but starts at 2,200 pF in the grid. Large Size X7R prints 1000 pF against a grid that starts at 270 pF. High Q / Low ESR NP0 prints 0.1 pF against a grid that starts at 0.2 pF.
How many export rows fall outside the printed capacitance range?
43 of 21,252 rows. 38 are outside the section 6 summary line and 14 are outside the section 7 grid. 29 are outside the summary but inside the grid, 5 are inside the summary but outside the grid, and 9 are outside both. We excluded 28 rows whose capacitance column contradicts their own part-number code.
Can I order a part that sits outside the grid?
The documents we hold do not say. Eight sheets in our half print a note that special capacitance values are available through a Walsin representative, but none says the export rows outside the grid are those parts. Ask Walsin to confirm the exact part number in writing, and qualify it in your own circuit.
Does the 0.1 pF tolerance footnote match the export?
Not on half the rows. The High Q / Low ESR and Automotive MT sheets both print that a 0.1 pF product provides the B tolerance only. We counted 8 export rows at 0.1 pF in those two series, and 4 carry the A or C tolerance letter instead. The footnote is Walsin’s wording, quoted as printed.
Which Walsin sheets did you compare, and which did you not?
We compared the first 14 of 26 MLCC PDFs in alphabetical order: the application guide, the full catalogue and 12 series sheets, nine of which have export rows. We did not compare the second half, and we hold no datasheet for thin film, inductor, varistor, disc capacitor, RF or antenna parts.
