Walsin MLCC datasheet section numbers are not stable. We opened 12 approval sheets and found 7 different outlines. Section 9 is the reliability tests in 7 sheets, electrical characteristics in 3, packaging in 1, and does not exist in the twelfth. Cite a section by its title, never by its number.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 datasheets from Walsin Technology (Walsin), 451 pages in all. This post is written from the first 14 PDFs in alphabetical order: 252 pages, of which 12 are series approval sheets and two are the 65-page full catalogue and the 12-page application guide. We ran pdftotext on every page and extracted every numbered heading before the reliability tables begin. Every part number below is real and comes from the series the sheet describes. The question is the one a quality engineer asks when a purchase specification says “see section 9 of the Walsin approval sheet”.
How many different outlines do Walsin’s 12 MLCC approval sheets use?
Seven. We compared the ordered list of section titles in each of the 12 series sheets in the first half of the corpus, ignoring the numbers. Four sheets share one outline, two share another, two share a third, and four sheets are each their own: 7 outlines in 12 sheets. The sheets look like a family, with the same cover, the same “Approval Sheet” banner and the same fonts. Their tables of contents are not the same.

Four of the 12, the reference included, share one outline. Eight do not. The RH and RT series have a full approval sheet on file and no row at all in the parametric export, so the cross-reference tool cannot offer them; that gap is on our request list with Walsin.
What does section 9 mean in a Walsin MLCC datasheet?
It depends on the sheet. Across the 12 approval sheets, section 9 is the reliability test conditions in 7, the electrical characteristics in 3, the packaging table in 1, and absent in 1. We counted the same for every section number from 4 to 10. Only the numbers 4, 5 and 6 are close to stable, and all three break on the same sheet, the large-size one.
| Section number | Meaning in sheet 01 (the reference) | What it is in the other sheets | Match / mismatch for a citation written against sheet 01 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | HOW TO ORDER, 11 sheets | capacitance range, 1 sheet (03_Large_Size) |
Match on 11, mismatch on 1 |
| 5 | EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS, 11 sheets | packaging, 1 sheet | Match on 11, mismatch on 1 |
| 6 | GENERAL ELECTRICAL DATA, 11 sheets | reliability tests, 1 sheet | Match on 11, mismatch on 1 |
| 7 | CAPACITANCE RANGE, 8 sheets | packaging, 3 sheets; absent, 1 sheet | Match on 8, mismatch on 4 |
| 8 | PACKAGING, 7 sheets | capacitance range, 4 sheets; absent, 1 sheet | Match on 7, mismatch on 5 |
| 9 | RELIABILITY TESTS, 7 sheets | electrical characteristics, 3; packaging, 1; absent, 1 | Match on 7, mismatch on 5 |
| 10 | none in sheet 01 | reliability tests, 4 sheets; absent, 8 | Mismatch on all 12 — a section the reference does not have |
We have not seen this counted anywhere. Section 8 has the same two-way ambiguity as section 7, and section 9 has three meanings. A citation of “section 8 of the approval sheet” reaches a packaging table in 7 sheets, a capacitance range in 4, and nothing in the large-size sheet, which stops at section 6.
Does the reliability test section keep the same number?
No, it takes three different numbers. The reliability test conditions and requirements are section 6 in one sheet, section 9 in seven and section 10 in four. The heading text itself, “RELIABILITY TEST CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS”, is identical in all 12. Only the number moves, because the electrical characteristics section (3 sheets) and a second capacitance range section (1 sheet) are inserted above it.
That matters for anyone who has built an incoming-inspection checklist, a supplier-approval questionnaire or a PPAP-style index around “section 9”. A checklist written against the automotive MT sheet (section 9) cites the wrong section on the RF, RH, HH and middle-to-high-voltage sheets, where the same tests are section 10, and on the large-size sheet, where they are section 6. For how the pass criteria inside that section are worded, see our count of the phrase no remarkable damage across 14 Walsin datasheets.
Is the packaging section called “style” or “dimension”?
Both, and the split is 5 to 7. We counted the wording of the packaging heading in all 12 sheets. “PACKAGING STYLE AND QUANTITY” appears in 5 sheets and “PACKAGING DIMENSION AND QUANTITY” in 7. The introduction heading splits three ways: DESCRIPTION in 4 sheets, INTRODUCTION in 7 and no introduction in 1.
The wording does not follow the product family. The automotive RT sheet uses DESCRIPTION and STYLE, like the MT and ST sheets. The RH sheet, a neighbouring high-reliability microwave series, uses INTRODUCTION and DIMENSION. We have not established why, and we do not claim the wording means anything. We report it because a text search for “packaging style” finds 5 of the 12 sheets and a search for “packaging dimension” finds 7. A reel-quantity script keyed to either phrase silently skips the others.
Do the full catalogue and the application guide follow the same outline?
No. We searched both files for the nine approval-sheet headings and found none of them as a numbered section in either file. The 65-page full catalogue opens with an unnumbered table of contents and places the reliability tests in “Appendix I”. Its contents page says “Packaging Dimension/Quantity” while the body heading on a later page says “PACKAGING STYLE AND QUANTITY”, so one document uses both wordings. The 12-page application guide is organised as numbered precautions with 1), 2) sub-items and shares no heading with the sheets.
What should a checklist or purchase specification cite instead?
The heading text, the sheet file name and the revision stamp on the page footer. A bare number misleads in 5 of the 12 sheets for section 9 and in 4 to 5 for sections 7 and 8, so three rules follow from the counts above.
- Cite the heading text, not the number. Five of the 12 sheets would send a reader of “section 9” to the wrong place or to nothing.
- Name the sheet file.
11_Automotive_MTand12_Soft_Term_Automotive_SThave the same outline, but04_Middle_and_High_Voltagehas a unique one. - Match on both packaging phrases. A script that searches for one wording finds 5 of 12 or 7 of 12.
We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and send them on request; ask for the one covering your part number. We hold none for thin film, inductor, varistor, disc capacitor, RF or antenna lines, so every claim here is confined to MLCC. To check a part you are crossing, paste it into our free cross-reference tool and read the approval sheet for the series it returns; the structure of the part number is covered in how to read a Walsin MLCC part number. What is in Hong Kong is on ready stock, a dated snapshot of 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026, and the capacitor range sits on the MLCC page.
The short version
Walsin’s approval sheets look like one family and are not. We counted the numbered headings in 12 series sheets and found 7 outlines. Section 9 is the reliability tests in 7 sheets, electrical characteristics in 3, packaging in 1, and absent in the large-size sheet. The reliability section carries three numbers: 6, 9 and 10. The packaging heading is “style” in 5 sheets and “dimension” in 7. The catalogue and the application guide share none of these headings. A specification that says “section 9” is ambiguous in 5 of 12 sheets. Qualification stays with you.
Send us the sheet you were given and the section your specification cites, and we will tell you which heading it reaches. And a question back: if your incoming-inspection checklist says “section 9”, which of the 12 sheets was it written against?
Frequently asked questions
How many outlines do Walsin MLCC approval sheets use?
We compared the ordered section titles in the 12 series approval sheets of the first 14 Walsin datasheets we hold and found 7 distinct outlines. Four sheets share one, two share a second, two share a third, and four sheets are each their own. The numbers are not stable even where the titles match.
What is section 9 in a Walsin MLCC datasheet?
It depends on the sheet. Section 9 is the reliability test conditions in 7 of the 12 approval sheets, the electrical characteristics in 3, the packaging table in 1, and does not exist in the large-size sheet, which stops at section 6. A citation of section 9 is ambiguous in 5 of 12.
Which section holds the reliability tests?
The reliability test conditions and requirements are section 6 in the large-size sheet, section 9 in seven sheets and section 10 in four. The heading text is identical in all 12. Cite the heading and the sheet file name rather than the number.
Is Walsin’s packaging heading style or dimension?
Both. The heading reads packaging style and quantity in 5 of the 12 approval sheets and packaging dimension and quantity in the other 7. The full catalogue uses both wordings in one document, in its contents page and in its body. A text search for either phrase finds only part of the set.
Do the Walsin catalogue and application guide use the same section numbers?
No. We searched both for the nine approval-sheet headings and found none as a numbered section. The 65-page full catalogue has an unnumbered contents page and puts the reliability tests in an appendix. The 12-page application guide is a list of numbered precautions with its own headings.
Does Venatech hold datasheets for every Walsin product line?
No. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, covering 26 MLCC and 2 chip resistor documents. We hold none for thin film, inductor, varistor, disc capacitor, RF or antenna lines. This post covers 14 of the 28 files, 252 pages, all MLCC, and says nothing about the other families.
