MLCC Capacitance Ceiling in Stock in Hong Kong: 7 of 24 Dielectric and Size Cells Reach the Walsin Export Ceiling, and None Above 0805 Does

The MLCC capacitance ceiling in stock matches Walsin’s published ceiling in 7 of 24 dielectric and case-size cells, and every one of the 7 is 0805 or smaller. In the 12 cells at 1206 and above, the shelf’s best line reaches at most 30.9 percent of the highest capacitance Walsin lists. Snapshot dated 23 September 2026.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, publishes a dated ready-stock list of 1,125 part numbers. This post joins it to the combined MLCC export from Walsin Technology (Walsin): 24,026 rows, 23,601 distinct part numbers. For each dielectric and case size we read 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx for the highest capacitance Walsin lists, and the stock snapshot for the highest capacitance on the shelf. Every part number below is real. Part-number counts only, never piece counts.

In how many dielectric and size cells does the shelf reach the export ceiling?

7 of 24, which is 29.2 percent. We parsed all 24,026 rows, and before comparing anything we checked every Capacitance field against the capacitance code inside its own part number; 35 part numbers disagree or hold a non-capacitance, and we excluded them. That left 23,566 part numbers, 762 of them on the shelf, and 24 cells of NP0, X7R or X5R at nine case sizes that hold at least one export part. The shelf reaches the ceiling in 7 and falls short in 16, and one cell, NP0 at 2220, has no stocked line.

Case-size band Cells Export part numbers Cells where the shelf reaches the ceiling Export parts above the shelf ceiling Match / mismatch
0201 to 0805 12 15,698 7 114 (0.7%) Match in 7 cells, mismatch in 5
1206 to 2220 12 6,293 0 706 (11.2%) Mismatch in all 12
All 24 21,991 7 820 (3.7%) 7 of 24

We have not seen this counted anywhere. A shelf can hold 762 resolved lines and still stop short of the catalogue’s top in 17 of 24 cells, because the lines it holds are concentrated where the volume is.

What does the whole 24-cell grid look like?

Ceilings are reached at 0402 for all three dielectrics and at 0805 for NP0 and X7R. The highest shelf capacitance is 13 times below the export ceiling at NP0 0201, 55 times below at X7R 1808 and 69 times below at X7R 2220. We read every cell as the largest capacitance in picofarad after parsing the text field, with the part holding it.

Read the pattern in the middle column of ratios. The four cells between 45 and 48 percent are one step down the capacitance ladder from their ceilings, 2.2 µF against 4.7 µF at X7R 0603 and 47 µF against 100 µF at X5R 0805. Those are near misses. The cells at 1206 and above are not: the shelf stops 3 to 69 times short. For the dielectric comparison behind the columns, see NP0 against X7R against X5R.

Is the shortfall caused by automotive series the shelf does not hold?

No. We removed every automotive series from the export, MT, MG and ST, and recomputed the ceiling in all 24 cells: the ceiling is unchanged in 24 of 24. Five of the export ceilings in the grid are set by automotive parts (MT15N102J500, MT18N103G500, MT31N104J500, MG31B226K100, MG32B476K100), but in each case a non-automotive part holds the same capacitance. Checked cell by cell.

That matters because it closes the easy explanation. The shelf is not short of the large values because they live in series Hong Kong does not stock. General Purpose and Middle to High Voltage lines carry the same capacitance in the export and are not on the shelf. For the automotive side of the shelf, which holds zero MT, MG or ST lines, see AEC-Q200 MLCC, MT against MG.

How many export part numbers sit above the shelf ceiling?

820 of 21,991, which is 3.7 percent. We counted, in each cell, the export parts whose capacitance is higher than the shelf’s best line. The two largest populations are NP0 1206 with 247 parts above a 3.9 nF shelf ceiling and NP0 at 2220 with all 61, followed by NP0 1210 with 82 and X7R 1808 with 69. The percentage is small because the cells that are full are the big ones.

Measured inside the cell instead, the gaps are sharper. 45.8 percent of X5R 1210 parts sit above the shelf’s 10 µF line (22 of 48). 38.3 percent of X7R 1808 parts (69 of 180) and 23.6 percent of X7R 2220 parts (61 of 258) do the same. A design that needs 22 µF at X7R 1206 finds nine such parts in the export, such as 1206B226K100, and a shelf that tops out at 4.7 µF with 1206B475K100.

How should a high-capacitance line be checked against the shelf?

By cell, not by series. Look up the dielectric and case size of your line, read the shelf ceiling for that cell, and compare it with your value: 7 cells will say yes at the top, 17 will say the top of the catalogue is not in Hong Kong. A “not on the shelf” is a lead-time question for Walsin, not a statement that the part does not exist.

  1. Find your cell in the grid above.
  2. If your capacitance is below the shelf ceiling, the shelf may hold it; check the exact voltage, tolerance and thickness. See the customized flag on the shelf for why a stocked code can resolve to more than one row.
  3. If it is above, ask us. We hold no Walsin lead-time column to quote from, and the export has none.

Paste your list into the free cross-reference tool and check what is physically in Hong Kong on ready stock, a dated snapshot of 23 September 2026 and not a live feed. The capacitor range is on the MLCC products page. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and send them on request; for the series behind each ceiling, the MLCC approval sheets are the document to qualify against, and the export is the file we measured.

The short version

We joined 762 stocked MLCC codes to 23,566 export part numbers that pass a capacitance-code check. The shelf reaches Walsin’s capacitance ceiling in 7 of 24 dielectric and case-size cells: NP0 at 0402, 0603 and 0805, X7R at 0402 and 0805, X5R at 0201 and 0402. In the 12 cells at 1206 and above it reaches none, topping out at 30.9 percent of the ceiling. 820 export parts, 3.7 percent, sit above their cell’s shelf ceiling, 706 of them in the large cases. Removing automotive series changes no ceiling. Qualification stays with you, so confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

Send us the capacitance, voltage and case size of the line you cannot find, and we will tell you which cell it sits in and whether the shelf reaches it. And a question back: when a catalogue lists 220 µF at 1206, how many of those parts has anyone on your team actually seen on a reel?

What is the highest-capacitance X7R MLCC in stock in Hong Kong at 0805?

10 µF, in 0805B106K100, rated 10 Vdc. That equals Walsin’s published X7R 0805 ceiling of 10 µF, so the shelf reaches the top of the catalogue in that cell. It is one of 7 of 24 dielectric and case-size cells where the Hong Kong snapshot of 23 September 2026 matches the export ceiling.

Does the shelf hold a 22 µF MLCC?

Yes, in at least two cells: X5R 0402 (0402X226M6R3, 6.3 Vdc) and X5R 0603 (0603X226M6R3, 6.3 Vdc). Both match or approach the export ceiling there. We found no stocked 22 µF X7R at 1206, where the shelf tops out at 4.7 µF with 1206B475K100.

Why is the NP0 0201 shelf ceiling only 75 pF?

Because the 69 stocked NP0 0201 lines are small-value parts, topping out at 75 pF in 0201N750J500. Walsin’s export lists NP0 0201 up to 1 nF, in 0201N102F250, and 102 of its 2,033 NP0 0201 parts sit above 75 pF. Ask us before assuming a larger value is unavailable.

Is the shelf ceiling set by automotive series?

No. The shelf holds no MT, MG or ST automotive line. We also removed those series from the export and recomputed all 24 ceilings: every one is unchanged, because a non-automotive part holds the same capacitance as the automotive one in each cell.

How many MLCC cells does the shelf leave completely empty?

One of the 24 cells we measured: NP0 at 2220, with 61 export parts and no stocked line. The other 23 cells hold at least one line. A cell having a line does not mean it reaches the ceiling, and only 7 do.

How did you handle bad capacitance values in the export?

We checked each Capacitance field against the capacitance code inside its own part number before taking any maximum. 35 part numbers fail that check, including RF03N180J6R3, whose field reads 18 nF while its code reads 18 pF. We excluded them. Left in, they would have set a false NP0 0201 ceiling of 18 nF.
