EU Motor and Drive Ecodesign Review for Slovenian Appliance Makers: 166 of 170 Stocked Walsin General Purpose Resistor Lines Have a High Power Twin, and 0 of the 830 Twins Are on the Shelf

High power chip resistors for Slovenian appliance and drive makers start with a data check. Of 170 Walsin general purpose resistor lines on our Hong Kong shelf, 166 have a High Power twin at the same size, value and tolerance, rated 1.25 to 4 times higher. None of the 830 twin rows is on the shelf.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) chip resistor exports: 137 files and 234,815 rows in Walsin_ChipR_Product_Data. This post is for a design or sourcing engineer in Slovenia who builds motor drives or appliance control boards and wants to know what the European Commission’s review of motor and drive rules could mean for the resistors on the board. Every part number is real and every count is ours. Where the post states a regulatory fact it names the source and the day we read it, 21 October 2026.

What is the EU reviewing in motor and drive ecodesign?

The Commission is reviewing the ecodesign rules for electric motors and variable speed drives. Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 is under review: a call for evidence was announced on 25 August 2025, the Commission’s review page lists a study running until spring 2027, and the call for evidence says the new rules are targeted for adoption in 2029. We read both Commission pages in full.

The call for evidence names where the products sit. Motors are used in compressors, fans, ventilation, heat pumps, refrigerators, dishwashers and ovens; variable speed drives are typically used in compressors, fans and pumps. The Commission says it wants to take account of technology gains since 2019 and may look at material efficiency and circular economy aspects too. The review page lists a second stakeholder meeting on 24 September 2026 and an impact assessment consultation whose third part, on bills of materials, is listed as closing on 30 September 2026. The page carries no date of its own and says its dates are indicative.

What does the review mean for a Slovenian appliance or drive maker?

We do not know, and the Commission has not said. No Commission page we read proposes a change to a component, a resistor rating or a board design; the review is about motor and drive efficiency and, possibly, material efficiency, and nothing in it names a passive part. What follows is our view, not the Commission’s.

Slovenia has motor makers: an Orgalim case study, published on 9 December 2021 and last modified on 5 November 2024, describes Domel, based in Slovenia, as a maker of efficient motors for vacuum cleaners and other household appliances, garden equipment, heating and ventilation systems and auxiliary automotive motors. We name no other company, we have no relationship with Domel, and nothing here implies that it buys Walsin parts. Our view is narrow. A drive or control board that is re-spun for efficiency, or for a tighter thermal budget, is a board where the power resistors get a second look, and a second look is cheapest when you can see the alternatives in one table.

How many Walsin general purpose resistors have a High Power twin?

Nearly three in four, and 166 of the 170 on our shelf. We parsed all 234,815 chip resistor rows and compared the General Purpose group with the WF High Power group on three fields, case size, resistance and tolerance: 55,279 of 75,554 General Purpose rows, 73.2%, have a High Power row at the same size, value and tolerance. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

We left out the zero-ohm jumper rows. On the shelf, the picture is sharper. We matched our stock list as at 23 September 2026 against the export: 170 General Purpose lines are held, and 166 of them have a twin.

Case size General Purpose lines held With a High Power twin General Purpose rating High Power ratings in the export Match / mismatch
0201 4 0 1/20 W none Mismatch: the High Power group has no 0201 row
0402 53 53 1/16 W 1/8 W and 1/5 W Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating, 2 to 3.2 times
0603 78 78 1/10 W 1/8 W and 1/3 W Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating, 1.25 to 3.3 times
0805 19 19 1/8 W 1/4 W and 1/2 W Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating, 2 to 4 times
1206 15 15 1/4 W 1/2 W and 3/4 W Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating, 2 to 3 times
2512 1 1 1 W 2 W and 3 W Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating, 2 to 3 times

The High Power group has no row at 01005, 0201 or 1218, which is why 0201 and those sizes show no twin. In every one of the 166 twins the lowest High Power tier is higher than the General Purpose rating: 78 lines gain 1.25 times (0603, 1/10 W to 1/8 W) and 88 gain 2 times. Our post on chip resistor power rating by case size explains the ratings.

Which High Power twin raises the rating, and what else changes?

The rating rises; the TCR and the part number change with it. Take five stocked General Purpose lines, one per case size, and look up their twins: each has two or more High Power rows with different ratings, and each twin differs from the General Purpose part on rated power, series and part-number prefix.

Stocked General Purpose part Size, value, tolerance Rating and TCR High Power twins (rating, TCR) Your incumbent part Match / mismatch
WR04X22R0FTL 0402, 22 ohm, 1% 1/16 W, up to 100 ppm WF04P22R0FTL (1/8 W, up to 100 ppm); WF04A22R0FTL (1/5 W, up to 100 ppm) ______ Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating
WR06X33R2FTL 0603, 33.2 ohm, 1% 1/10 W, up to 100 ppm WF06P33R2FTL (1/8 W, up to 100 ppm); WF06A33R2FTL (1/3 W, up to 100 ppm) ______ Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating
WR08X22R1FTL 0805, 22.1 ohm, 1% 1/8 W, up to 100 ppm WF08P22R1FTL (1/4 W, up to 100 ppm); WF08A22R1FTL (1/2 W, up to 100 ppm) ______ Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating
WR12W4R70FTL 1206, 4.7 ohm, 1% 1/4 W, -200 to +400 ppm WF12P4R70FTL (1/2 W, up to 100 ppm); WF12A4R70FTL (3/4 W, up to 100 ppm) ______ Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating and TCR
WR25X3301FTL 2512, 3.3 kilohm, 1% 1 W, up to 100 ppm WF25P3301FTL (2 W, up to 100 ppm); WF25A3301FZL (3 W, up to 100 ppm) ______ Match on size, value, tolerance; mismatch on rating

The 1206 row is the one to read twice. The General Purpose part publishes a TCR band of -200 to +400 ppm per degree Celsius; both twins publish up to 100. A swap for power can also change drift. For the 166 twins, each has between 1 and 6 High Power rows, and the suffix letters after the value, such as V, R and J on some twins, are not explained in the export, so we do not say what they mean. Our post on anti-surge chip resistors covers the other power-related group. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

What do we hold in stock for this swap?

The General Purpose side only. We counted 830 High Power WF rows that sit twin to our 166 stocked General Purpose lines, and 0 of those 830 part numbers is on the shelf as at 23 September 2026. The one stocked line in the High Power group, MF12P3303FTL, has an MF prefix and is not one of the 830.

The 170 General Purpose lines are the stock we hold at those sizes, from 0201 to 2512. The stock list is a dated snapshot and moves; our ready stock page shows what is held now. A High Power twin would come on a separate order from Walsin, and we state no lead time.

What will we not tell you about the review and Slovenian import?

That a part passes any efficiency rule, and anything about customs. We hold no datasheet for the WF High Power series, so the export is our only source for its ratings; our resistor datasheets cover two groups, MR and WR, and the WR sheet is ASC_WR_V24, September 2016. We make no claim that any Walsin resistor meets any ecodesign requirement.

The export carries no derating curve, no pulse rating and no ambient temperature for any High Power row, so the swap needs the datasheet figures from Walsin, in writing. We state no duty rate, customs procedure or transit time for Slovenia, we give no legal or customs advice, and we hold no office, entity or stock in Slovenia. Confirm with your compliance team. Our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. The chip resistor range lists the families.

How Venatech helps

We help by showing the swap field by field. Paste your incumbent resistor into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and it returns Walsin candidates with match and mismatch fields. For a whole list, the BOM page checks up to 500 part numbers, or an Excel or CSV file, against the same engine. Worked example from our own export: paste WR08X22R1FTL, a part we hold, and the General Purpose row comes back with the High Power rows beside it, rating and TCR stated.

Walsin is our only authorised line; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We work from Hong Kong, in small lots, and we cross parts for you if you send a list. Request a quote through the site. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, sent on request; none is for the WF series. Qualification stays with you.

The short version

The EU is reviewing motor and drive ecodesign, with new rules targeted for 2029; nothing we read names a resistor. In Walsin’s data, 55,279 of 75,554 General Purpose rows have a High Power twin, and 166 of the 170 we hold do. None of the 830 twins is on the shelf as at 23 September 2026.

Send us the power resistors from one drive or control board and we will return the Walsin rows, the twins and the gaps, field by field. If a tighter thermal budget means your resistors need more rating, who has read the High Power datasheet for your value?
