Agri-Tech Electronics for Canada from Hong Kong: 84 Percent of Canadian Field Crop Farms Used GPS in 2021 and Our 0402 and 0603 Shelf Covers 39 of the 61 E12 Resistor Steps a Sensor Node Needs

Agri-tech electronics for Canada run on cheap parts, and the cheap part is the one a prototype cannot find. We counted our Hong Kong shelf as at 23 September 2026: Walsin Technology (Walsin) general purpose resistors at 0402 and 0603 cover 39 of the 61 E12 steps, 10 ohm to 1 megohm.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin chip resistor export of 234,815 rows and a stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a design or procurement engineer at a Canadian agri-tech company building a sensor node, a guidance accessory or a barn controller, who needs pull-ups, dividers and bias resistors in small lots. Every part number is real, every count is ours, and the news item names its source and the day we fetched it, 23 October 2026.

How widespread is precision technology on Canadian farms?

Widespread on field crop farms. Statistics Canada reports that 84 percent of Canadian field crop farms used GPS in 2021, unchanged from 2017, with 94 percent in Manitoba, 92 percent in Saskatchewan and 90 percent in Alberta, against about 32 percent of forage farms nationwide.

The detail, from the one source we fetched. A Statistics Canada article dated 11 April 2023 draws on the 2021 Census of Agriculture and the Farm Management Survey and reports only GPS, not sensors or drones, so it says nothing about sensor nodes directly. We draw one conclusion, and it is ours: a market in which most grain farms already rely on positioning gear is a market where the next product is an accessory, a gateway or a sensor, and accessories are small circuit boards bought in small lots. We have no relationship with any Canadian farm or equipment maker.

What is the 61-step ladder a sensor node draws from?

Sixty-one values. The E12 series has 12 values per decade, so ten ohm to one megohm spans 5 decades and 61 steps, and the Walsin general purpose WR family in 0402 and 0603 lists plus or minus 1 percent, 100 parts per million parts at one-sixteenth and one-tenth watt.

We parsed all 234,815 chip resistor rows in the Walsin export and matched the general purpose lines on our stock list to them. The shelf holds 53 lines at 0402 and 78 at 0603 in that family. Counting E12 steps, the 0402 shelf covers 22 of 61, the 0603 shelf covers 31 of 61, together they cover 39 of 61, 14 steps are on both sizes and 22 steps are on neither. We have not seen this counted anywhere. Our post on E24 versus E96 values explains why the E12 steps are the practical set for a prototype.

The 22 steps on neither size include 12, 15, 18, 27, 33, 39, 56 and 68 ohm, and 390, 680 and 2,700 ohm, and 5,600, 8,200, 12,000 and 18,000 ohm, and 120, 150, 270, 390, 560, 680 and 820 kilohm.

Which Walsin parts cross an 0402, 1 percent, one-sixteenth watt brief?

Five common values, mixed results. Take an 0402, plus or minus 1 percent, 100 parts per million, one-sixteenth watt brief at five common values: the 0402 part matches the brief at every value, but only three of the five are on the shelf (220 ohm, 4.7 kilohm and 100 kilohm), while all five 0603 neighbours are, at the cost of a larger body and higher rated power.

Read the table as a stocking map, not a recommendation.

Value Walsin 0402 part On shelf Walsin 0603 part On shelf Match / mismatch with the 0402 brief
220 ohm WR04X2200FTL Yes WR06X2200FTL Yes Match for the 0402 part; mismatch for the 0603: larger body, one-tenth watt
1 kilohm WR04X1001FTL No WR06X1001FTL Yes 0402 part matches but is off the shelf; 0603 mismatch: size and power
4.7 kilohm WR04X4701FTL Yes WR06X4701FTL Yes Match for the 0402 part; 0603 mismatch: size and power
10 kilohm WR04X1002FTL No WR06X1002FTL Yes 0402 part matches but is off the shelf; 0603 mismatch: size and power
100 kilohm WR04X1003FTL Yes WR06X1003FTL Yes Match for the 0402 part; 0603 mismatch: size and power

The 10 kilohm 0402 pull-up, the commonest value on most sensor boards, is not on our shelf, though the Walsin export lists it. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

What does a Hong Kong shelf hold for a small-lot Canadian prototype?

Enough for many nodes, not all. Of the 61 E12 steps, 39 have a general purpose 0402 or 0603 line on the shelf as at 23 September 2026, and the 22 that do not can be quoted from the export, which lists every one of them.

Stock moves; the ready stock list is a dated snapshot, never live-synced. Our post on the Walsin general purpose chip resistor range covers the family, and the chip resistor range lists the series. We hold lot and date-code traceability, a certificate of conformity per shipment on request and original sealed Walsin packaging.

What will we not tell you about farm electronics?

Anything about field reliability. We make no claim that any Walsin part is suitable for farm machinery or outdoor use, we hold no ISO 9001 certificate, and the general purpose resistor datasheet we hold is ASC_WR_V24, dated September 2016, ten years old.

We hold no office, entity or stock in Canada. Our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We give no legal, customs or conformity advice; confirm with your compliance team. Qualification stays with you.

How Venatech helps

Paste your incumbent into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch. Load a whole BOM, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file, to run every line. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live. Worked example from our own export: the E12 ladder from 10 ohm to 1 megohm gave 61 steps, our 0402 and 0603 general purpose shelf covers 39 of them, and the 10 kilohm 0402 pull-up is one of the 22 that need a quote. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We serve from Hong Kong in small lots, we help with cross-referencing by hand when the tool returns no clean candidate, and a quote is requested through the site. The 28 datasheets, 451 pages, we hold are sent on request.

The short version

For a Canadian agri-tech team, the passive parts are the easy bit until a prototype run needs one value you cannot find: our 0402 and 0603 shelf covers 39 of 61 E12 steps, 14 at both sizes and 22 at neither. Paste the node’s BOM and we show which lines are ready and which need a quote.

Send us the resistor lines from one sensor node and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated and the shelf position named. If most of your board is the cheap parts, which one has stopped a build before?
