Display module capacitors for South Korea are a height problem before they are a capacitance problem. We counted 12 Walsin 1 µF, 16 V, 0805 MLCC rows: only 2 are 0.85 mm thick and the other 10 are 1.25 mm class. None of the 12 is on our Hong Kong shelf, but a 0603 or 0402 part is.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC export of 24,026 rows, 23,601 of them distinct part numbers. This post is for a design engineer or buyer at a South Korean maker of display modules, panels or the equipment that builds them, who wants to know what a Hong Kong source can offer when a flexible board has a tight height budget. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a market fact it names the source, its date and the day we read it, 23 October 2026.
What is Samsung Display restarting in Korea?
Samsung Display said it will resume its stalled Asan Campus 2 OLED expansion, worth 67 trillion won, with preparation under way and no completion date given. We read two reports on 23 October 2026.
LEDinside (TrendForce), 29 July 2026, reports that the company’s chief executive spoke after K-Display 2026 at COEX in Seoul on 22 July and said the project would enter its execution phase. It records that the Asan site was first developed in 2017 and construction was suspended in 2020, and that the project sits inside Samsung Group’s 140 trillion won plan for the Chungcheong region. It adds that the company’s 8.6-generation IT OLED line, aimed at laptops, tablets, foldable phones and extended-reality devices, is on schedule for mass production. The Asia Business Daily (22 July 2026) quotes the same executive saying the company is preparing to resume construction, and repeats the 67 trillion won figure.
Our view, labelled as ours: new panel capacity and thinner devices raise the number of flexible and module boards in which a fraction of a millimetre decides which capacitor fits. The reports do not say that.
Why does a thin module board turn on capacitor height?
Because a capacitor’s height is set by its case size and its construction, and a module board has a fixed stack to fit inside. We parsed the Thickness field of the Walsin MLCC export for one specification: 1 µF, 16 V, 0805. It returns 12 rows, and only 2 of them are 0.85 mm thick. The other 10 are 1.25 mm class.
Walsin’s own approval sheet for its low profile TT series, which we hold, lists “For LCD panels” as its first application, and the sheet for the HT series lists an LCD display among its uses. We checked all 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, for the word robot, server, charger and network, and none contains them, so a display is one of the few end uses any of them names. It names an LCD and not an OLED, and we make no claim for any Samsung Display part or process.
| Walsin part | Series | Dielectric and tolerance | Thickness (export) | In stock 23 September 2026 | Match / mismatch (1 µF, 16 V, 0805, height of 1.0 mm or less) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
TT21X105K160 |
Low profile TT | X5R, ±10% | 0.85 ± 0.10 mm | No | Match on height, capacitance, voltage and tolerance; mismatch if your design needs X7R |
FT21B105M160 |
Feed-through FT | X7R, ±20% | 0.85 ± 0.10 mm | No | Match on height; mismatch on tolerance and on terminals, because it has three |
0805B105K160 |
General purpose | X7R, ±10% | 1.25 ± 0.10 mm | No | Mismatch: 0.40 mm taller |
0805X105K160 |
General purpose | X5R, ±10% | 1.25 ± 0.10 mm | No | Mismatch: 0.40 mm taller |
MT21B105K160 |
Automotive MT | X7R, ±10% | 1.25 ± 0.10 mm | No | Mismatch: 0.40 mm taller |
SH21B105K160 |
Soft termination SH | X7R, ±10% | 1.25 ± 0.30 mm | No | Mismatch: up to 1.55 mm tall |
We have not seen this counted anywhere: for a 1 µF, 16 V, 0805 part, 2 of 12 rows clear a 1.0 mm budget, and neither of the 2 is a standard two-terminal X7R part. The difference of 0.40 mm is 32 percent of the 1.25 mm body. Our post on low profile MLCC, the TT series explains what the series changes and where the thickness does not appear in the part number.
What does the feed-through part change, and what does it cost the layout?
It changes the terminals, not only the thickness. FT21B105M160 is a three-terminal part, so its pad pattern is not the two-pad 0805 pattern, and the Walsin FT approval sheet says it is for reflow soldering only. The sheet rates it at 4 A DC with a DC resistance of 0.02 ohm maximum, against 2 A and 0.03 ohm for the other 0805 FT parts.
That makes it a different part with a different footprint, not a thinner twin. The sheet also lists 11 parts, while the export returns 8, and FT21B105M160 is in both. We published the full comparison in our post on feed-through and 3-terminal MLCC, and we do not repeat it here. The practical point for a layout engineer is that the 0.85 mm saving costs a footprint change, and the TT part does not.
What does the Hong Kong shelf hold if height is the constraint?
No 0805 part at 1 µF and 16 V, but a thinner one in a smaller case. We counted our stock list as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers: 18 are 1 µF lines, and at 16 V there are three, 0402X105K160 at 0.50 ± 0.05 mm, and 0603B105K160 and 0603X105K160 at 0.80 +0.15/-0.10 mm.
Both are thinner than the two 0.85 mm 0805 parts, because height follows case size. The price is board area: an 0805 body is 2.00 by 1.25 mm and a 0603 is 1.60 by 0.80 mm, which is a different footprint and a different layout decision. No 0805 1 µF part at 16 V is held at all. The same is true of every 0.85 mm part in the table, which would be a factory order.
We hold no display-specific qualification for any of these parts, and no Walsin datasheet we hold tests a part for a panel. The shelf is a dated snapshot and moves, and the ready stock page shows what is held now. We quote part-number counts, never piece counts.
How can Venatech help a South Korean display-module maker?
By crossing the part you have already chosen, stating every difference, and telling you what we do not hold. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.
- Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
- BOM check. Upload a display-module or flexible-board bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
- Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.
A worked example from our own export: a 1 µF, 16 V, X5R, 0805 capacitor with a 1.0 mm height limit maps to TT21X105K160, not stocked, so it is a factory order; the stocked alternatives, 0603B105K160 and 0402X105K160, are thinner but need a smaller footprint. Our MLCC range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
The short version
Samsung Display said it will restart its 67 trillion won Asan OLED expansion, with no completion date reported. On a thin module board, only 2 of 12 Walsin 1 µF, 16 V, 0805 rows are 0.85 mm thick, and none is on the Hong Kong shelf as at 23 September 2026. The shelf holds a 0603 and an 0402 part at the same capacitance and voltage.
Send us the capacitor with the tightest height limit on one module board and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. When the height budget shrinks again, will you change the case size or change the stack?
