Passive Component Country of Origin: Zero of 451 Pages Name One, and We Will Not Guess for the United States

We will not tell you. Passive component country of origin appears nowhere in the 451 pages of Walsin datasheets we hold — 33 search terms, zero pages — and it is not a column in any of our 203 export files. Until Walsin states it in writing, we will not guess it for a United States entry.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 Walsin Technology (Walsin) datasheets totalling 451 pages, 203 parametric export files covering 359,135 distinct part numbers, and its own Hong Kong stock file dated 23 September 2026. This post is measured from all three. Every part number below is real. Every count is of part numbers and pages, not pieces. The answer this post gives is a refusal, and the refusal is the useful part: a supplier who will invent an origin for you will invent other things too.

Does any Walsin datasheet we hold name a country of origin?

No. We searched the full text of all 451 pages for 33 terms — ten country and territory names, nine city and province names, “Made in”, “country of origin”, “origin”, “plant”, “factory”, “fab”, “manufacturing site”, “site of manufacture”, “assembled in”, “manufactured in”, “produced”, “Address”, and the Chinese characters for “made” and “plant”. Every one of the 33 returns zero pages. Not one of the 28 files we hold names a country, a city, a plant, a fabrication site or a postal address.

What we searched the 451 pages for Pages found
Ten country and territory names 0
Nine city and province names associated with passive manufacturing 0
“Made in” / “manufactured in” / “assembled in” / “produced” 0
“plant” / “factory” / “manufacturing site” / “site of manufacture” 0
“country of origin” / “origin” 0
A postal address of any kind 0
“contact WTC local representative” 102

That last row is the one to sit with. 102 of the 451 pages instruct the reader to contact Walsin’s local representative, and not one of the 451 pages says where Walsin is. We have not seen this counted anywhere. The documentation is built to route you to a person, not to a place, and an origin declaration needs a place.

Is country of origin a field in any of Walsin’s 203 export files?

No. We opened all 203 export files and collected every column header: 96 distinct column names across 20 different schemas, and Series is the only column that appears in all 203. We then searched those 96 names for “origin”, “country”, “plant”, “site”, “made” and “manufact”. Zero matches. There is no RoHS column, no REACH column, no lifecycle column, no lead-time column and no origin column anywhere in 390,477 rows.

This is not a Walsin failing and we are not presenting it as one. A parametric catalogue describes what a part is; origin is a property of a shipment, and shipments are not in a catalogue. The error is the one made downstream — a distributor who fills the blank from habit, or from the last reel he happened to see, and hands a United States importer a declaration nobody can support. We hold no document that states an origin for any Walsin part number, and we will not write one.

What does our own Hong Kong stock file record instead of an origin?

One traceability field, and it is in worse shape than the gap it is standing in for. Our stock file as at 23 September 2026 carries 1,125 part numbers in 10 columns, and the only provenance column is Date code. We counted it: 683 of the 1,125 rows carry a date code, and those 683 cells hold only 104 distinct values — because 397 of them hold the identical Excel datetime 2025-12-01 00:00:00. That single repeated value is 58% of the field.

Date-code notation in our own stock file Rows
Identical Excel datetime 2025-12-01 00:00:00 397
Year plus Chinese month character 115
Several codes in one cell, comma separated 89
Year only, written 23+ or 26+ 49
Year plus month, written 22+4 21
Year plus Chinese week character 7
Four-digit year-and-week, e.g. 2134 3
One free-text cell mixing a dotted date with Chinese text 1
A second, genuine-looking datetime 1

Eight notations and a repeated placeholder, in the one field a customs broker would actually reach for. We publish that rather than hide it, because the alternative is to let a reader believe the column means more than it does. A further 101 of the 1,125 codes have no row in any of the 203 parametric export files at all, which is a separate gap we have already published.

What can we state per part number, and what will we not?

Four things per line, and none of them is a country. We checked each of the five lines below against the stock file and against both parametric exports. Every one gets authorised-channel provenance, original sealed Walsin packaging, the lot and date code printed on the reel label, and a certificate of conformity on request. Not one gets an origin declaration from us.

Part number Line Date code in our stock file Match / mismatch against a United States origin declaration
0201B392K250 MLCC, 0201 X7R 25 V The repeated 2025-12-01 placeholder Mismatch — no origin field exists, and this cell is one of the 397 identical values
HH03N4R7C500 High Q / low ESR MLCC, 0201 NP0 The same repeated placeholder Mismatch — same placeholder; reel label is the only usable code
MF12E1R00FTL Thin film chip resistor Blank Mismatch — no date code in the file and no origin anywhere
WF04H1202DTL Thin film chip resistor Blank Mismatch — no date code in the file and no origin anywhere
S242B102K502 Safety capacitor, X1/Y2 Blank Match on third-party approval — UL file E182369 is searchable in UL’s public database; mismatch on origin, which no sheet states

That last line is the honest shape of this whole problem. On a safety capacitor we can give you a UL file number you can check in half a minute, and we still cannot give you a country. Two different kinds of fact, two different kinds of document, and only one of them is in our library. We will not tell you a part is interchangeable with your incumbent either. We will show you where it differs.

Why does a guessed origin cost a United States importer more than a blank one?

Because a blank is a question and a guess is a statement on a filing. A United States importer declares origin on entry, and the declaration is the importer’s legal responsibility, not the distributor’s — which is precisely why a distributor’s unsupported assertion is the most expensive thing in this transaction. We hold zero documents stating an origin for any of the 359,135 part numbers in our data, so anything we told you would be a number we had made up, and a made-up number in a filing is worse than an open field.

What would actually resolve this, and has it been asked?

One document, and no, not yet in writing. What resolves it is a written statement of origin from Walsin per part number, or per shipment, issued by the manufacturer on the manufacturer’s letterhead. That sits on our request list alongside the other eighteen document types that appear nowhere in our 451 pages — REACH, SVHC, conflict minerals, PFAS, Prop 65, China RoHS, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, PPAP, IMDS, VDA, a qualification report, a Declaration of Conformity, a certificate-of-conformity template, CE and UKCA marking, a product-change-notification policy and a counterfeit policy.

We say “on our request list” rather than “we have requested” because nothing has been sent to Walsin in writing yet, and the difference between those two sentences is the difference between a status and a promise. One file of our 28 names a RoHS exemption at all — the MR automotive resistor sheet, exemption 7C-I. The other 24 MLCC sheets carry only a page-one header reading “Halogen Free & RoHS Compliance”, which is a claim and not a declaration. What we hold and do not hold, line by line, is set out in certificate of conformity, lot codes and date codes.

What should a buyer in the United States do today?

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing. Our stock file holds 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026 — 732 MLCC, 254 chip resistor, 132 specialty MLCC, 3 safety capacitor, 2 inductor and 2 others — all of it shipping from Hong Kong, which is the shipping origin and not a claim about where anything was made.

  1. Ask Walsin, through us, for a written origin statement for your exact part numbers. We will put the request in and we will tell you the date we sent it and the date it comes back. If it does not come back, you will hear that too.
  2. Cross the line in one pass while you wait. Paste up to 500 part numbers or drop your Excel or CSV into the free cross-reference tool and read the differences we state rather than the matches we claim. It matches against Walsin’s published catalogue, with 18 manufacturers’ part numbers decoded and 800,000+ crossable parts behind it.
  3. Check what is physically in Hong Kong on ready stock before you book a slot — a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, not a live feed.

For what authorised supply actually adds over an open-market purchase, see counterfeit passive components and authorised sourcing. The ranges themselves sit on the Walsin MLCC range page.

The short version

Passive component country of origin is absent from everything we hold. 33 search terms across 451 datasheet pages return zero pages; 96 distinct column names across 203 export files include no origin field; 390,477 rows carry no origin value. Our own stock file’s only provenance column is a date code present on 683 of 1,125 rows, written in eight notations, with one identical Excel datetime repeated on 397 of them. We can give a United States importer authorised-channel provenance, sealed Walsin packaging, the reel’s lot and date code, a certificate of conformity on request and a checkable UL file number. We cannot give an origin, so we will not. Qualification stays with you.

Send us the part numbers you need to clear and we will put a written origin request to Walsin on your behalf, then tell you exactly what came back and when — including if the answer is nothing. If a distributor has already given you a country for a passive component, ask them which document it came from. We would like to know whether anybody can answer that.

Frequently asked questions

Does Venatech state a country of origin for Walsin passive components?

No. We searched all 451 pages of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold for 33 terms covering countries, cities, plants, factories and the phrase “country of origin”. Every one returns zero pages. We hold no document stating an origin for any of the 359,135 part numbers in our data, so we state none.

Is country of origin a field in a component catalogue?

Not in Walsin’s. We opened all 203 parametric export files and collected 96 distinct column names across 20 schemas. None of them names origin, country, plant, site or manufacture. Origin is a property of a shipment rather than of a part, which is why a catalogue cannot carry it and a shipping document can.

What traceability can Venatech actually supply?

Original sealed Walsin packaging, the lot and date code printed on the reel label, a certificate of conformity per shipment on request, and authorised-distributor provenance you can confirm with Walsin directly. For the safety capacitor series we can also give certificate numbers, including UL file E182369, which is searchable in UL’s own public database.

Why is the date code in the stock file inconsistent?

Because it was compiled by hand from several registers. We counted 683 date codes across 1,125 rows holding only 104 distinct values, in eight different notations, with the identical Excel datetime of 1 December 2025 on 397 of them. Take the code from the reel label, not from the file, and we publish the defect rather than hide it.

Will Venatech put an origin request to Walsin for me?

Yes, and we will tell you when we sent it. Nothing has been requested from Walsin in writing yet, so we say “on our request list” rather than “requested”. A written statement of origin per part number from the manufacturer is the only document that settles this, and it has to come from Walsin.

Does an authorised distributor know where a part was made?

Not automatically, and anyone claiming otherwise should be asked for the document. Authorised supply gives you an unbroken chain from the manufacturer, sealed packaging and lot traceability. It does not create an origin declaration, and the eighteen document types absent from our 451 pages include several that buyers assume arrive by default.

Where does Venatech ship from?

Hong Kong, on every line. The group’s entities are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. Shipping origin is not the same thing as country of origin, and we keep the two words apart deliberately — the first is a fact about our warehouse, the second is a fact we do not hold.
