Thin Film Resistor E192 Values: Walsin’s 1,181-Value Grid Is E192 Plus 13 E24 Values E192 Does Not Contain

Walsin’s thin film resistor E192 values are not a pure E192 series. We reduced all 93,914 thin film rows to three significant digits and found 205 mantissas: every one of the 192 E192 values plus 13 E24 values that E192 omits, such as 2.2 and 3.3. Those 13 sit on 5,740 rows.

Our earlier tantalum nitride post reported that Walsin’s thin film grid carries 205 values per decade, “denser than E192 by thirteen”, and left the origin open. This post closes it. Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds all 203 parametric export files published by Walsin Technology (Walsin). This post is written from the Resistance column of the eleven non-empty thin film files: the eight Thin_Film_Precision_Chip_Resistor_WF_Series_*.xlsx sheets, Tantalum_nitride_Thin_Film_Chip_Resistor_MF_Series_1.xlsx and Anti_Sulfuration_Thin_Film_Chip_Resistor_SF_Series_1.xlsx and _2.xlsx, 93,914 rows in all. Every part number below is real. The question is the one a buyer with an E24 bill of materials asks: is my 2.2 kilohm in there, and is it there because the grid is E192?

Which preferred-number series does Walsin’s thin film resistance grid follow?

Two, merged. We counted every distinct three-digit mantissa in the 93,914 rows and got 205. A full decade holds 192 E192 values plus 13 E24 values that E192 does not contain, which is exactly 205. We checked the other direction as well: all 192 E192 values are present, and no row carries a mantissa outside the two series. The export does not name the series it followed, so this is a measured match, not a statement from Walsin.

Class of mantissa Mantissas per decade Distinct resistance values Rows Share of 93,914 rows Match / mismatch against a filter on E96 alone
E96 member 96 622 45,952 48.9% Match
E192 value that E96 lacks 96 486 42,222 45.0% Mismatch — an E96 filter hides these
E24 value that E192 lacks 13 73 5,740 6.1% Mismatch — an E96 filter and an E192 filter both hide these
Total 205 1,181 93,914 100% 51.1% of rows are invisible to an E96-only filter

We have not seen this counted anywhere. The 13 are not a rounding quirk. They are whole mantissas, each one present in every full decade from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm, on every series. The 1,181 distinct values break down as six partial or full decades: 108 below 10 ohm, 205 in each of the five decades from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm, and 48 from 1 megohm to 3 megohm.

Which 13 E24 values does E192 not contain?

Thirteen: 2.2, 2.7, 3.0, 3.3, 3.6, 3.9, 4.3, 5.1, 5.6, 6.2, 6.8, 8.2 and 9.1, each times a power of ten. E192 has no 2.20 and no 3.30, because its neighbours are 2.18 and 2.21, and 3.28 and 3.32. The other 11 E24 values (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.4, 4.7 and 7.5) are already in E192, so Walsin did not need to add them. We read the first of them in each decade and found the same 13 every time.

Value you want Where it sits Class in Walsin’s grid Real WF part at 1206, ±0.01%, ≦±25 ppm/°C Your incumbent part Match / mismatch
2.20 kΩ E24 only E24 value that E192 lacks WF12R2201TTL ______ Match on value. Mismatch if your list is E192-only: it is absent there
2.21 kΩ E96 and E192 E96 member WF12R2211TTL ______ Match on value and on E96
2.23 kΩ E192 only E192 value that E96 lacks WF12R2231TTL ______ Match on value. Mismatch if your list is E96-only
3.30 kΩ E24 only E24 value that E192 lacks WF12R3301TTL ______ Match on value; absent from an E192 list
3.32 kΩ E96 and E192 E96 member WF12R3321TTL ______ Match on value; 0.6% away from 3.30 kΩ
4.70 kΩ E24 and E192 E192 value that E96 lacks WF12R4701TTL ______ Match on value. Mismatch if your list is E96-only
4.75 kΩ E96 and E192 E96 member WF12R4751TTL ______ Match on value; 1.1% from 4.70 kΩ

Every part above is a 1206 WF precision part rated 1/4 W. Each one also has a one-letter twin with U in position five that carries the same value, tolerance and TCR grade at 1/8 W. Pick the letter on the wattage you need, not on the value. For the footprint rules see what is actually in Walsin’s thin film catalogue.

Does the grid change with tolerance?

No, and that is the surprising part. We split the 93,914 rows by tolerance and recomputed the three shares for each. The E24-only share is 6.1% or 6.2% at every one of the six tolerances, from plus or minus 0.01 percent to plus or minus 1 percent. The E96 share stays between 48.3% and 49.3% and the E192-only share between 44.6% and 45.5%.

Tolerance Rows E96 members E192 values E96 lacks E24 values E192 lacks Match / mismatch against a “looser tolerance, coarser grid” rule
±0.01% 52,808 26,046 23,567 3,195 Mismatch — the tightest grade carries E24 values
±0.05% 6,364 3,084 2,888 392 Mismatch
±0.1% 8,483 4,101 3,859 523 Mismatch
±0.25% 7,469 3,641 3,370 458 Mismatch
±0.5% 9,385 4,535 4,264 586 Mismatch
±1% 9,405 4,545 4,274 586 Mismatch — the loosest grade carries E192 values

A rule of thumb says a tight tolerance needs the fine grid and a loose one is content with the coarse grid. This line does not follow it. A plus or minus 1 percent part exists at 1.01 kilohm, an E192-only value, and a plus or minus 0.01 percent part exists at 2.2 kilohm, an E24-only one. For what the tolerance column does and does not hold, see precision thin film tolerance and TCR.

Does every series and case size carry the whole grid?

Every one carries all 205 mantissas, but not in every decade. We counted distinct mantissas per series and per case size. WF, MF and SF each hold all 205, and so do all eight case sizes from 0201 to 2512; what differs is how many decades each size reaches. WF holds 1,181 distinct values, SF 1,130 and MF 1,026.

Series Distinct values Mantissas Lowest and highest value Rows Match / mismatch against WF
WF precision 1,181 205 1 Ω to 3 MΩ 58,314 reference
SF anti-sulfuration 1,130 205 1 Ω to 3 MΩ 15,080 Match on mantissas; mismatch on count: 51 fewer values below 10 ohm
MF tantalum nitride 1,026 205 10 Ω to 1 MΩ 20,520 Match on mantissas; mismatch on range: no value below 10 ohm, one value at 1 megohm
Case size Distinct values Mantissas Lowest and highest value Match / mismatch against a full decade
0201 (0603) 547 205 27 Ω to 12 kΩ Mismatch — 121 values in the 10 ohm decade, 16 in the 10 kilohm decade
0402 (1005) 900 205 10 Ω to 255 kΩ Mismatch — 80 values in the 100 kilohm decade
0603 (1608) 1,058 205 4.7 Ω to 1 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm
0805 (2012) 1,088 205 4.7 Ω to 2 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm
1206 (3216) 1,173 205 1 Ω to 2.49 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm
1210 (3225) 1,097 205 4.7 Ω to 2.49 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm
2010 (5025) 1,105 205 4.7 Ω to 3 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm
2512 (6432) 1,181 205 1 Ω to 3 MΩ Match from 10 ohm to 988 kilohm

If your value is between 10 ohm and 988 kilohm and your footprint is 0603 or larger, the grid has every one of the 205 mantissas. The decade-by-decade limits are in thin film resistor TCR by resistance decade.

Can you sort the thin film Resistance column?

Not as a string. Every resistance in the export is written in ohms with one Greek capital omega character, Ω (U+03A9), on all 93,914 rows, and no row uses a k or M prefix. We sorted the 1,181 distinct strings alphabetically and then numerically. 1,149 of 1,181 land in a different place. A string sort puts 1150000Ω between 114Ω and 115000Ω.

The export is clean in one respect: 1,181 numeric values map to 1,181 strings, with no value spelled two ways, and three significant figures are always written, so 10.0Ω and 1.00Ω keep their zeros. The missing unit prefix is the only problem.

Does the thick film line follow the same grid?

No, it carries a wider one, and it lets tolerance steer the grid. We applied the same reduction to the 234,667 rows in the Walsin_ChipR_Product_Data files that hold a positive ohm value and found 138 distinct mantissas. 23 of them are outside both E192 and E24, on 1,006 rows; the thin film line has none. The E24-only share also moves with tolerance: 48.5% of the plus or minus 5 percent rows sit on those 13 mantissas, against 11.9% of the plus or minus 1 percent rows. Thin film holds 6.1% at every tolerance.

That difference matters when you cross between lines. A thin film part at a thick film value exists only when the value is one of the 205. See thin film vs thick film chip resistors for the construction trade-offs, and run the pair through the free cross reference to see the differences stated field by field.

What does Hong Kong stock hold in this grid?

None of it, as far as the snapshot shows. We read all 1,125 part numbers in the ready-stock snapshot dated 23 September 2026. 13 begin WF or MF; by the position-five rule, 3 of those 13 are thin film codes, and none of the 3 has a row in the thin film export. The other 10 are thick film.

The three are WF06Q7502FTL, WF06U5363BTL and WF08R1203BTL. We checked them against the thin film export and the chip resistor export, and found no row in either. They are valid entries in our part-number list and appear in the snapshot, but no parametric row describes them. It is one instance of a wider gap: 101 of the 1,125 snapshot codes have no row in any parametric export. Stock is a dated snapshot, not a live feed. Check the current position on ready stock, and see the range on the thin film page.

The short version

Walsin’s thin film resistance grid is 205 mantissas per decade: all 192 E192 values plus the 13 E24 values E192 omits (2.2, 2.7, 3.0, 3.3, 3.6, 3.9, 4.3, 5.1, 5.6, 6.2, 6.8, 8.2, 9.1). Those 13 sit on 5,740 of 93,914 rows, 6.1%, and the share is the same at every tolerance. All three series and all eight case sizes carry the 205. An E96-only filter hides 51.1% of the rows. A string sort of the column misplaces 1,149 of 1,181 values. The thick film line has 23 mantissas outside both series; thin film has none. No thin film part number in the 23 September 2026 snapshot has an export row. We hold no thin film datasheet, so confirm the series against Walsin’s own specification. Qualification stays with you.

Send us the E-series values on your bill of materials and we will tell you which are in the grid and which are not. And a question back: when your incumbent’s E192 list lacked 2.20 kilohm, did you assume your supplier had misprinted it?

Frequently asked questions

Are Walsin’s thin film resistor values E192?

Mostly. The export holds 205 three-digit mantissas per decade: all 192 E192 values plus 13 E24 values that E192 does not contain. Walsin does not name the series in its export, so the match is something we measured across 93,914 rows rather than something Walsin states.

Which E24 values are missing from E192?

Thirteen: 2.2, 2.7, 3.0, 3.3, 3.6, 3.9, 4.3, 5.1, 5.6, 6.2, 6.8, 8.2 and 9.1, each times a power of ten. Walsin’s thin film grid includes all thirteen, which is why a 2.2 kilohm request returns a part even though E192 has no 2.20.

Does a tighter tolerance mean a finer value grid?

Not in this export. The share of rows on E24-only values is 6.1% or 6.2% at all six tolerances, and a plus or minus 1 percent part exists at E192-only values such as 1.01 kilohm. Tolerance and value grid are independent.

Does every thin film series carry every value?

Every series carries all 205 mantissas, but not every decade. WF holds 1,181 distinct values, SF 1,130 and MF 1,026, and MF stops at 10 ohm below and 1 megohm above. Check the range for your case size before relying on the grid.

Can I sort the thin film Resistance column in a spreadsheet?

Not as text. Every value is written in ohms with no kilo or mega prefix, so 1,149 of the 1,181 distinct strings land in the wrong place under an alphabetical sort. Convert to a number first, and strip the omega character.

Does Venatech hold a thin film datasheet?

No. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, covering 26 multilayer ceramic capacitor series and 2 chip resistor series. We hold none for thin film, so every figure here is read from the export and should be confirmed against Walsin’s own specification.

Is any thin film part in the 23 September 2026 stock snapshot?

Three part numbers carry a thin film letter in position five, but none has a row in the thin film export, so we cannot describe their value, tolerance or TCR from the data. Check the live position with us before designing around them.
