Offshore Wind Electronics for Denmark from Hong Kong: With a 3.7 Billion Krone Bornholm Energy Island Contract Signed, 277 Walsin AEC-Q200 MLCC Are Rated 200 V or More, 23 Have a Stocked Twin and 4 of Those Differ in Height

Offshore wind electronics for Denmark often ask for a qualification-grade capacitor above 200 V. We counted Walsin’s export: 277 parts in its AEC-Q200 compliant MT and ST series reach 200 V or more, 23 have a same-field twin on our Hong Kong shelf, and 4 of those 23 twins differ in printed height. None of the 277 is itself stocked.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, wrote this for a design engineer or buyer at a Danish maker of wind-power, converter or grid-connection electronics. We read the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC export of 24,026 rows, 23,601 of them distinct part numbers, and our stock list as at 23 September 2026. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. We make no claim that any wind operator requires an automotive-grade part. Where a market fact appears, it names its source and the day we read it.

What is the Bornholm Energy Island contract, and why would a component buyer read it?

It is the first large civil award for Denmark’s Baltic grid hub, and it shows where high-voltage electronics will be installed. On 5 August 2026 offshoreWIND.biz reported that Energinet awarded Per Aarsleff a design-and-build contract worth about 3.7 billion Danish kroner for the onshore facilities of the Bornholm Energy Island. We read the report on 22 October 2026.

The report says the facilities will connect future Baltic Sea offshore wind farms to the Danish and German grids. The southern Bornholm site covers 110 hectares and includes converter halls and a 400 kV high-voltage substation, and a second site at Høje Taastrup on Zealand connects to the Danish grid. Design began on 1 August 2026, earthworks are due at the end of 2027 or early 2028, and handover is planned for 2030 and 2031. It does not state the wind capacity, and it names no passive component.

Our view, labelled as ours: converter halls and substations need many protection and control boards, and each board has a capacitor above 200 V. The report does not say that.

How many Walsin AEC-Q200 MLCC are rated 200 V or more, and how many have a stocked twin?

277 parts, and 23 have a stocked twin. We parsed the Rated Voltage field of all 2,291 distinct parts in Walsin’s two AEC-Q200 compliant series, MT and ST: 277 are rated 200 V or more, 260 in MT and 17 in the soft termination ST series. A twin sharing case size, dielectric, capacitance, tolerance and voltage exists for 259 of them, and 23 of those twins are on the shelf.

The 23 twins sit at 200 V (3), 250 V (8), 500 V (4), 630 V (4) and 1 kV (4). Twenty belong to MT parts and 3 to ST parts. None of the 2,291 automotive-series parts is itself stocked, and the 23 twins come from General Purpose, Middle to High Voltage and SH soft termination series.

We have not seen this counted anywhere: of the 277 automotive-series parts at 200 V or more, 23 (8.3%) have a stocked twin on five fields, and 4 of those 23 disagree on the printed thickness. A twin on five fields is a candidate, not a guarantee of fit, and the sixth field decides whether it fits your keep-out.

Does the stocked twin match on height and termination?

Mostly on height, never on grade, and for the ST parts not on termination. We compared the printed thickness of the 23 pairs: 17 agree, 4 disagree by a visible step and 2 cannot be compared because the automotive row prints no thickness.

The four disagreements are all 0.80 mm against 1.25 mm, or 1.25 mm against 1.60 mm, which is the difference between two body heights in the same 0805, 1206 or 1210 footprint. If a board has a tight height limit above a converter module, the twin may not fit even when every electrical field agrees. The grade differs in every pair: the automotive part is AEC-Q200 compliant and its twin is not claimed to be. Our post on soft termination MLCC explains what the ST and SH series change at the termination.

Which Walsin parts cross a 4.7 nF, 1 kV qualification-grade capacitor?

Two stocked twins sit nearby, one matches on height and one does not. Say your board has a 4.7 nF, X7R, 1 kV capacitor in 1206 that your design authority has specified as AEC-Q200 compliant. These are the real parts nearest to it, with the automotive row first.

Walsin part Series Case Capacitance, voltage Thickness (export) On the shelf 23 September 2026 Match / mismatch (against the automotive row)
ST31B472K102 Automotive soft termination ST 1206 4.7 nF, 1 kV, ±10% 1.60 ± 0.20 mm No Reference row
1206B472K102 Middle to High Voltage 1206 4.7 nF, 1 kV, ±10% 1.25 ± 0.10 mm Yes Match on five electrical fields; mismatch on height, grade and termination
MT32B472K102 Automotive MT 1210 4.7 nF, 1 kV, ±10% 1.60 ± 0.20 mm No Mismatch on case; the 1210 reference row
1210B472K102 Middle to High Voltage 1210 4.7 nF, 1 kV, ±10% 1.60 ± 0.20 mm Yes Match to the 1210 automotive row on every field except grade
MT31B103K631 Automotive MT 1206 10 nF, 630 V, ±10% 1.25 ± 0.10 mm No Second reference row
1206B103K631 Middle to High Voltage 1206 10 nF, 630 V, ±10% 1.25 ± 0.10 mm Yes Match on six fields; mismatch on grade only

Confirm every field against the Walsin datasheet and your own derating policy. If your drawing needs AEC-Q200 compliance, a twin without it does not satisfy the drawing. Our MLCC range lists the families.

What do our Walsin datasheets say about wind or offshore use?

Nothing. We searched the text of all 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and the words wind, turbine, offshore and nacelle appear in none of them. The Middle and High Voltage sheet lists DC to DC converters among its applications, and that is the closest any of the 28 comes.

We hold no creepage or partial-discharge figure for any MLCC, and no offshore, salt-spray or marine test report. A part on this list is not a qualified wind component by being listed. Our post on 48 V bus voltage rungs shows how to read the voltage ladder for a different rail.

How can Venatech help a Danish wind-power maker?

By crossing the capacitor you already use, stating each difference, and telling you what we do not hold. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.

  • Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
  • BOM check. Upload a converter or protection-board bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
  • Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
  • Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.

A worked example from our own export: a 4.7 nF, 1 kV, 1206 capacitor specified as AEC-Q200 compliant maps to ST31B472K102, which is not stocked, while the stocked 1206B472K102 matches on five fields and is 0.35 mm lower in nominal thickness. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

The short version

On 5 August 2026 Energinet awarded the Bornholm Energy Island onshore works to Per Aarsleff, per offshoreWIND.biz. In Walsin’s AEC-Q200 compliant series, 277 parts are rated 200 V or more, 23 have a stocked twin on five fields, and 4 of those 23 differ in height. None of the 277 is stocked.

Send us one converter-board capacitor list and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. When the drawing says AEC-Q200 and the shelf part is not, who signs the deviation?
