EV Charger Manufacturing in the United Kingdom, Sourced from Hong Kong: 39 of 11,616 Walsin Current-Sense Rows Reach 32 A at Rated Power, and the 3 Stocked Lines Stay Under 1 A

A United Kingdom EV charger manufacturer who measures charging current with a chip resistor needs milliohm parts, and our shelf holds none. Of 11,616 Walsin current-sense part numbers, 39 reach 32 A at rated power by simple arithmetic. The 3 current-sense lines we stock, as at 23 September 2026, stay under 1 A.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) chip resistor parametric exports: 137 files, 234,815 rows, 234,401 distinct part numbers. This post is for a purchasing or design engineer at a United Kingdom charge point manufacturer who has a board that senses current, a volume forecast, and no wish to learn about a missing shunt value at prototype build. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a development, it names the source, its date and the day we fetched it (23 October 2026).

What did the Department for Transport report about UK public chargers?

A large and growing base. The Department for Transport statistics release published on 27 August 2026 counted 121,171 public EV chargers in the United Kingdom at 1 July 2026, of which 28,887 were rated rapid or above (50 kW and over), with 5,119 added so far in 2026. The release adds that one charge point operator removed about 1,270 chargers from its data in June 2026, which affected the 2026 trend.

That is the public network. A manufacturer also builds for homes, workplaces and fleets, which this release does not count. It says nothing about components, shortages or any named supplier, and we draw no conclusion about which parts any charger maker buys. We have no relationship with the Department for Transport.

How many Walsin current-sense rows reach 32 A at rated power?

39 of 11,616. We parsed every current-sense row in the chip resistor export, 11,616 distinct part numbers across the thick film and metal families, and computed the current at which each reaches its printed rated power, the square root of power divided by resistance: 39 reach 32 A or more, 272 reach 16 A, and none reaches 100 A. We chose 32 A because it is a common single-phase charger rating; that choice is ours, not the source’s.

All 39 are metal plate or metal foil parts: 36 in 2512, 2 in 1225 and 1 in 0612, at 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 2 milliohm, 21 at plus or minus 1 percent and 18 at 5 percent. Our three stocked current-sense lines are thick film 0805 parts at 0.27, 0.39 and 0.47 ohm, 1/4 W, which the same arithmetic puts at 0.96, 0.80 and 0.73 A. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

Group Part numbers Reaching 32 A at rated power Match / mismatch
All current-sense rows in the export 11,616 39 Reference set
Metal plate and foil, 0.5 to 2 milliohm, 1225 to 2512 39 39 Match on current; stock not held as at 23 September 2026
Thick film, 5 milliohm and above 10,428 0 Mismatch for charging current
Our stocked current-sense lines 3 0 Mismatch: 0.27 to 0.47 ohm suits housekeeping, not the charging path

Which worked part numbers show the gap, and what differs?

Take the stocked line WW08WR270FTL: 0.27 ohm, plus or minus 1 percent, 100 ppm, 1/4 W, 0805. Its siblings on size, value and tolerance include WW08WR270FTLFN at 1/2 W (about 1.36 A at rated power by the same arithmetic) and WW08XR270FTL at 1/8 W with a 500 ppm ceiling; none has a lower temperature coefficient than 100 ppm. The charging path needs the second block of the table, none of which we stock.

Walsin part Series as exported Size, value, tolerance, TCR, power Match / mismatch Your incumbent
WW08WR270FTL Thick Film Low Ohm Current Sense 0805, 0.27 ohm, 1%, 100 ppm, 1/4 W Reference line, stocked as at 23 September 2026
WW08WR270FTLFN Thick Film Power Low Ohm Same size, value, tolerance, TCR; 1/2 W Match on four; mismatch on power and series
WW08XR270FTL Thick Film Low Ohm Current Sense Same size, value, tolerance; 500 ppm, 1/8 W Match on three; mismatch on TCR and power
WW25JR001FTL Metal Plate Low Ohm Current Sense 2512, 1 milliohm, 1%, 70 ppm, 1 W (about 31.6 A) Not stocked; mismatch: just under 32 A
WW25BR001FTL Metal Plate Low Ohm Current Sense 2512, 1 milliohm, 1%, 70 ppm, 3 W (about 54.8 A) Not stocked; match on 32 A, mismatch on stock
WW25AR0L5FTL Metal Plate Power Low Ohm 2512, 0.5 milliohm, 1%, 70 ppm, 3 W (about 77.5 A) Not stocked; match on 32 A, mismatch on stock

The currents are arithmetic on printed rated power. They ignore board temperature, derating, pulses and layout, and they are not a current rating. Our post on thick film against metal current-sense parts explains why the two families behave differently, our 1 milliohm shunt analysis shows which fields the export leaves blank, and the chip resistor range page lists the families.

What do Walsin’s documents say about current sensing?

Very little. We hold 2 Walsin resistor datasheets, the MR automotive sheet and the WR general purpose sheet, out of 28 datasheets and 451 pages; we hold no datasheet for any current-sense series. The export prints size, value, tolerance, temperature coefficient and rated power for these parts, and nothing about terminal layout, pulse rating or sensing accuracy over life. The WR sheet is ASC_WR_V24, dated September 2016, ten years old.

What will we not tell you about the United Kingdom?

Anything about UK charge point regulation, metering rules or product safety. We hold no office, entity or stock in the United Kingdom; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We state no duty rate, import procedure, transit time or carrier, and we give no legal or customs advice; confirm with your compliance team. We make no claim that any Walsin part meets a charging, metering or safety standard.

How Venatech helps

Start with your shunt. Paste it into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts and lists Walsin candidates with match and mismatch fields, or upload your bill of materials to the BOM checker, up to 500 part numbers. The Hong Kong ready-stock list is a dated snapshot, 23 September 2026, never live-synced; it holds no milliohm current-sense line, so those would be an order to discuss, not a shelf pick. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We work from Hong Kong, in small lots, and you can request a quote through the site. The worked table above came from our export. Qualification stays with you.

The short version

For a United Kingdom charger board, the current-sense value decides the shelf. 39 of 11,616 Walsin current-sense rows reach 32 A at rated power by arithmetic, all in metal plate or foil, and none of them is on our shelf. The 3 stocked current-sense lines reach 0.73 to 0.96 A, and we hold no datasheet for the series.

Send us your shunt value, size and power and we will return the Walsin parts with every difference stated. Is your 32 A path a 3 W part, or a 1 W part that falls 0.4 A short?

Frequently asked questions

What did the Department for Transport report about UK public chargers?

On 27 August 2026 it reported 121,171 public EV chargers at 1 July 2026, 28,887 of them rapid or above, and 5,119 added so far in 2026. It names no component. We draw no conclusion about which parts any company buys.

How many Walsin current-sense rows reach 32 A at rated power?

39 of 11,616 part numbers, by the arithmetic of the square root of rated power over resistance. All 39 are metal plate or foil in 2512, 1225 or 0612, at 0.5 to 2 milliohm. The figure is arithmetic, not a current rating, and ignores derating.

Does Venatech stock a current-sense resistor for a charging path?

Not as at 23 September 2026. Our 3 stocked current-sense lines are 0805 thick film at 0.27, 0.39 and 0.47 ohm, 1/4 W, which the same arithmetic puts below 1 A. A milliohm shunt would be an order to discuss.

Is a sibling part a safe replacement?

No. A sibling matches on catalogue fields such as size, value and tolerance. Power, TCR and series can still differ, and nothing is qualified in your circuit. Treat it as a candidate for your own test.

Do Walsin datasheets cover the current-sense series?

No. We hold 28 datasheets, 451 pages, and only 2 are resistor sheets: MR automotive and WR general purpose. We hold none for any current-sense series. Pulse rating and drift over life are on our request list.

Do you give UK charging or customs advice?

No. We hold no office or stock in the United Kingdom and state no duty, import procedure or transit time. Confirm those points with your compliance team. We supply parts, documents we hold, and cross-reference help.
