Sourcing Passive Components for Thai Hard-Disk and Consumer Electronics Makers from Hong Kong: Electronics Exports Rose 46 Percent in the First Half of 2026, and Only 21 Walsin Class II Capacitors at 10 µF or More Are Rated 16 V or 25 V in 0603 or 0805, 2 on the Shelf

Sourcing passive components for Thailand from Hong Kong meets a hard wall on the 12 V rail. We counted Walsin’s MLCC export: only 21 class II capacitors reach 10 µF at 16 V or 25 V in 0603 or 0805, none in 0402, and 2 of the 21 are on our Hong Kong shelf.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC export of 24,026 rows, 23,601 of them distinct part numbers. This post is for a procurement engineer at a Thai maker of hard-disk drive assemblies, computers, printed circuit boards or consumer electronics who needs bulk capacitors for a 12 V rail and wants a Hong Kong source in small lots. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a market fact, it names the source, its date and the day we read it.

What do Thailand’s electronics export figures say about demand for passive components?

They say the sector is large and growing, and nothing about any one part. The Nation Thailand reported on 21 August 2026, citing Thansettakij, that Thai electronics exports were 1.63 trillion baht in the first half of 2026, up 46% on the year, after 2.39 trillion baht in 2025. We read the report on 23 October 2026.

The report quotes the president of the Electronics and Computer Employers Association saying that hard disk drives remain among Thailand’s main electronics exports alongside computers, printed circuit boards and computer components, and that many large electronics companies hold advance orders covering three to five years. It puts electronics and components at about a third of export value, and the United States as the largest destination for shipments. These are trade-press statements, not customs data.

Our view, labelled as ours: a sector that exports mostly assemblies and boards buys capacitors in the sizes that fit a dense board. That is why the 0603 and 0805 counts below matter more than a catalogue total.

Which capacitor voltage does a 12 V rail need?

One rung above what the rail can reach, and an 80% working limit puts a 12 V rail on 25 V. We parsed the Rated Voltage field of all 23,601 distinct MLCC part numbers: the rungs below 50 V run 4, 6.3, 10, 16, 25 and 35 V, and the 12 V rail’s nearest are 16 V and 25 V. At 10% rail tolerance the rail peaks at 13.2 V, which is 82.5% of 16 V and 52.8% of 25 V.

The 10% tolerance and the 80% working limit are our assumptions for the arithmetic, not a rule, and rail tolerances differ between designs. Your derating policy is your engineer’s decision. Class II capacitors also lose capacitance as DC bias rises, which is why a 16 V part on a 12 V rail is a closer call than the voltage ratio alone suggests. Our post on MLCC DC bias and voltage derating explains the effect, and the Walsin datasheet for the exact part decides it.

How many Walsin 10 µF capacitors fit a 12 V rail in 0603 or 0805?

Twenty-one, and 17 of them are 0805. We counted class II parts (X5R, X6S, X7R, X7S, X7T) at 10 µF or more rated 16 V or 25 V in the MLCC export: 4 in 0603 (3 at 16 V, 1 at 25 V), 17 in 0805 (9 at 16 V, 8 at 25 V), and 0 in 0402. Of the 21, 9 are rated 25 V.

Case Rated voltage Class II parts at 10 µF or more In stock 23 September 2026
0402 16 V 0 0
0402 25 V 0 0
0603 16 V 3 0
0603 25 V 1 0
0805 16 V 9 1 (0805X106K160)
0805 25 V 8 1 (0805X106K250)

We have not seen this counted anywhere: for a Thai board that keeps a 25 V rung and a 0603 footprint, the Walsin export offers exactly 1 part, 0603X106M250, at ±20%, and it is not on our shelf. Three of the 21 are 22 µF: 0805S226M160, 0805X226M160 and 0805X226M250. Above 0805 the export adds 1206 and 1210 parts, which most phone-size boards cannot place. Our post on how to cross-reference an MLCC shows the field-by-field method this table follows.

Which Walsin parts cross a 10 µF, 25 V, X5R, 0805 capacitor?

One matches on every field, and the rest each give up one. Say your board has a 10 µF, 25 V, X5R, ±10% capacitor on an 0805 footprint.

Walsin part Series Case Dielectric Capacitance Rated voltage Tolerance In stock 23 September 2026 Match / mismatch (10 µF, 25 V, X5R, ±10%, 0805)
0805X106K250 General purpose 0805 X5R 10 µF 25 V ±10% Yes Match on all fields
0805X106M250 General purpose 0805 X5R 10 µF 25 V ±20% No Mismatch on tolerance
0805A106K250 General purpose 0805 X7S 10 µF 25 V ±10% No Mismatch on dielectric
0805X226M250 General purpose 0805 X5R 22 µF 25 V ±20% No Mismatch on capacitance and tolerance
0603X106M250 General purpose 0603 X5R 10 µF 25 V ±20% No Mismatch on case and tolerance
0805X106K160 General purpose 0805 X5R 10 µF 16 V ±10% Yes Mismatch on voltage: 82.5% of rating at 13.2 V

Thickness is 1.25 ± 0.20 mm on the 0805 parts and 0.80 ± 0.20 mm on the 0603 part, as the export prints it. The soft termination part SH21X106K250 also reaches 10 µF at 25 V in 0805, and its termination differs from the general purpose parts. Confirm tolerance, thickness, DC bias curve and termination against the Walsin datasheet, and qualify in your own circuit.

What do we hold in stock, and what does our paperwork say about hard drives?

Two of the 21 lines, and no document that names a drive. We counted our stock list as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers: 2 of the 21 are stocked, one at each voltage, and neither of the words hard disk nor HDD appears in any of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages.

The word consumer appears in 3 of the 28: once as “for consumer electronics” and twice as “consumer electrical equipment”. Neither is a statement about drives, phones or computers, and we make no end-use claim for any part. The stock list is a dated snapshot and moves. The ready stock page shows what is held in Hong Kong now, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts.

How can Venatech help a Thai electronics maker?

By crossing the capacitor you have already chosen, stating the differences, and telling you what is missing. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.

  • Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
  • BOM check. Upload a board bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
  • Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
  • Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.

A worked example from our own export: a 10 µF, 25 V, X5R, ±10%, 0805 bulk capacitor maps to 0805X106K250, which is stocked. A ±20% line maps to 0805X106M250, which is a factory order. Our MLCC range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit. Check export and trade rules with your compliance team; we give no legal advice.

The short version

Thai electronics exports rose 46% in the first half of 2026 to 1.63 trillion baht, per The Nation Thailand on 21 August 2026. On the 12 V rail, only 21 Walsin class II capacitors reach 10 µF at 16 V or 25 V in 0603 or 0805, none in 0402, and 2 are on the shelf. None of the 28 datasheets we hold names a hard disk.

Send us the bulk capacitor from one board and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. When your rail sits at 82.5% of a 16 V part, which gives way first, the voltage margin or the footprint?
