Sourcing passive components for Vietnam from Hong Kong means reading a series name before a value. We counted Walsin’s chip resistor export: a 220 ohm, 1%, 1206 resistor has 25 part numbers in 15 series with three power ratings, and only 1 is on our Hong Kong shelf, a 3/4 W triple power surge part.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) chip resistor export of 234,815 rows, 234,401 of them distinct part numbers once embedded spaces are removed. This post is for a procurement engineer at a Vietnamese maker of LED luminaires, drivers or household appliances who has a 1206 resistor on a mains-side board and wants a Hong Kong source in small lots. Every part number below is real, every count is ours, and the market figures are sourced and dated.
What do Vietnam’s electronics export figures say for a component buyer?
They say the base is very large and still moving. Vietnam Investment Review reported on 5 October 2026 that electronics exports reached 175.4 billion US dollars in the first nine months of 2026, with electronics and computers at 123.6 billion, up 59.6% on the year. We read the report on 23 October 2026.
The same report puts telephones at 51.7 billion US dollars, up 18.8%, and September alone at 28.73 billion for the whole electronics industry. It expects 200 billion to be passed within about a month and 235 to 245 billion for the full year. It attributes the figures to statistics without naming an agency, and it says nothing about LED lighting or household appliances.
The report also gives electronics, computer and component imports of 188.9 billion US dollars over the same nine months. Our view, labelled as ours: none of these totals says anything about a single resistor, so the useful work starts at the bill of materials line.
How many Walsin parts answer a 220 ohm, 1%, 1206 resistor?
Twenty-five, and they are three different power ratings. We parsed the 37,566 distinct 1206 part numbers in the Walsin chip resistor export and found 25 at 220 ohm and plus or minus 1%, in 15 series: 16 are rated 1/4 W, 6 are rated 1/2 W and 3 are rated 3/4 W. One of the 25 is on our shelf.
The same count holds for 330 ohm and 39 kilohm at 1%: 25 part numbers, 15 series, 16 at 1/4 W, 6 at 1/2 W and 3 at 3/4 W. At 1.00 ohm it is 21 part numbers in 11 series. We have not seen this counted anywhere: three of our four stocked values in the triple power surge line each answer to 25 candidates, and a 1/4 W general purpose twin of the same value is stocked for one of the three only, 330 ohm. The general purpose WR12 family has 5 part numbers per value: plain, automotive, anti-sulfuration, LF 100 ppm and a second anti-sulfuration grade. Our post on chip resistor power rating by case size explains how power ratings vary by case size.
Why is the stocked 220 ohm part a 3/4 W surge series part?
Because the stocked 1206 lines include 4 triple power surge parts and 1 high power part, and the export labels all five as automotive series. We counted the 33 stocked 1206 resistor lines as at 23 September 2026: 28 are rated 1/4 W, 4 are rated 3/4 W and 1 is rated 1/2 W, and the four 3/4 W lines are MF12E1R00FTL, MF12E2200FTL, MF12E3300FTL and MF12E3902FTL.
The series name is Thick Film Triple Power Surge Chip Resistor (Automotive) in the export. We make no automotive qualification claim for any stocked part, and Walsin’s wording is the only wording we use. A mains-side lamp or appliance board sees inrush and surge, and a surge-rated part with 3 times the power rating of a general purpose 1206 is a natural thing to ask about. That is our view, not a Walsin statement, and the load is your design. Our two resistor datasheets cover the MR automotive and WR general purpose series only, so we hold no datasheet for the surge series.
Which Walsin parts cross a 220 ohm, 1%, 1206, 3/4 W resistor?
The stocked part matches on every field, and each other candidate gives up power, series or both. Say your driver board has a 220 ohm, 1%, 1206, 3/4 W surge-rated resistor, and you want to see what else Walsin lists.
| Walsin part | Series (export) | Rated power | TCR (ppm/°C) | In stock 23 September 2026 | Match / mismatch (220 ohm, 1%, 1206, 3/4 W) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
MF12E2200FTL |
Triple power surge (automotive) | 3/4 W | 100 | Yes | Match on value, tolerance, case, power and series |
WF12A2200FTL |
High power | 3/4 W | 100 | No | Match on power; mismatch on series: high power, not surge |
WF12A2200FTLJ |
High power (automotive) | 3/4 W | 100 | No | Match on power; mismatch on series |
WF12P2200FTL |
High power | 1/2 W | 100 | No | Mismatch on power: two thirds of 3/4 W |
WR12X2200FTL |
General purpose | 1/4 W | 100 | No | Mismatch on power: one third of 3/4 W |
WK12K2200FTL |
High precision TC50 | 1/4 W | 50 | No | Mismatch on power and TCR |
Whether a lower rating is acceptable depends on your pulse and steady-state load, which we do not know. A surge series and a high power series are different products with different test lists, and we hold no datasheet that compares them. Confirm power, pulse rating, TCR and termination against the Walsin datasheet and qualify in your own circuit.
What do we hold in stock, and what does our paperwork say about appliances?
Thirty-three 1206 lines, 5 of them above 1/4 W, and no document that names an appliance. We counted our stock list as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers: 33 are 1206 chip resistors, and neither the word appliance nor the word LED appears in any of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages.
We make no end-use claim for any part. The stock list is a dated snapshot and moves. The ready stock page shows what is held in Hong Kong now, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts. For a 330 ohm line the shelf also holds the general purpose WR12X3300FTL at 1/4 W. Our post on why Walsin part numbers do not paste into your BOM covers spacing and suffix traps, which matter when five suffixes share a value.
How can Venatech help a Vietnamese lighting or appliance maker?
By crossing the resistor you have already chosen, stating the differences, and telling you what is missing. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.
- Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
- BOM check. Upload a driver or appliance-board bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
- Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.
A worked example from our own export: a “220R 1% 1206 3/4 W” line maps to MF12E2200FTL, which is stocked, and to WF12A2200FTL, which is a factory order with a different series. A “220R 1% 1206” line with no power stated maps to 25 part numbers, so state the power. Our chip resistor range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit. Check import and product rules with your compliance team; we give no legal advice.
The short version
Vietnam’s electronics exports reached 175.4 billion US dollars in nine months, per Vietnam Investment Review on 5 October 2026, and the report names neither lighting nor appliances. For a 1206 resistor the useful number is smaller: a 220 ohm, 1% line has 25 Walsin part numbers in 15 series, 16 at 1/4 W, 6 at 1/2 W and 3 at 3/4 W, and 1 is on the shelf.
Send us the 1206 resistor line from one driver or appliance board and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. When your bill of materials gives a value and a tolerance but no power, which of the three ratings did your design assume?
