Medical device electronics in a Dominican free zone often carry a 0603 ferrite bead whose number prints size and impedance but not current. In the Walsin export, a 0603 bead printed 221 returns 13 rows with rated current from 0.3 to 2.2 A, only 4 reach 2 A, and none is on our 23 September 2026 Hong Kong stock list.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) inductor and ferrite bead export of 5,411 rows, all distinct part numbers, and a Hong Kong ready-stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a procurement or design engineer at a medical device assembler in a Dominican Republic free zone who has a ferrite bead on a DC rail of a patient-side or monitoring product and needs to know what a Hong Kong source can offer against it. Every part number below is real and every count is ours.
What is happening to medical exports from Dominican free zones in 2026?
They are the largest single export segment. elDinero reported on 18 May 2026, citing the National Council of Export Free Zones, that free-zone exports in January to April 2026 were 2,803.3 million US dollars, up 4.3%, of which medical and pharmaceutical products were 966.0 million, about 34.5% by our arithmetic. We read the article on 23 October 2026.
The same article gives tobacco and derivatives at 461.2 million and electrical and electronic products at 15.2 million, which is about 0.5% of the total by our arithmetic. It groups medical and pharmaceutical products in one line, so it does not say how much of the 966.0 million is device manufacturing.
Our view, labelled as ours: a segment that large imports a lot of electronic parts for the devices inside it, and the smallest parts on a device board, such as ferrite beads, are the ones a bill of materials names by number and nothing else. We cannot see any assembler’s purchasing, and we claim none.
Why does a 0603 ferrite bead printed 221 return 13 Walsin rows?
Because the number prints two fields and the rest are open. A bead number that reads size 0603 and 221 fixes the case and an impedance of 220 ohms at 100 MHz, and we found 13 Walsin rows at exactly that pair across the inductor and bead export, in 6 series. We have not seen this counted anywhere.
We parsed all 5,411 rows of the Walsin inductor and bead export, took the 177 beads at the 1608 (0603) size, and read the three-digit impedance code the way the part number prints it: 221 is 22 followed by one zero, 220 ohms. Of the 177, 15 print 221, and 13 of those 15 also carry 220 ohms in the impedance field. The 13 sit in the WLBD, WLBD(HC), MCB-S, MHC-S, MHC-P and the automotive-labelled MCB and MHC groups.
For an incumbent such as a Murata BLM18-series bead with 221 in its number, the printed fields are the size and the impedance. The incumbent’s rated current, DC resistance and thickness are on its own datasheet, and we do not state them. The Walsin side is what we can count.
How far does rated current spread across the 13 rows?
By a factor of 7.3. From the export’s rated-current field, the 13 rows run from 0.3 A to 2.2 A: two at 0.3 A, three at 0.7 A, two at 1.0 A, two at 1.5 A, two at 2.0 A and two at 2.2 A, and 4 of the 13 reach 2 A or more. A search by size and impedance alone cannot tell a 0.3 A part from a 2.2 A part.

All 13 print a tolerance of ±25% on the impedance. The other three rows not shown are further automotive-labelled variants of the 0.7, 1.0 and 1.5 A parts. None of the 13 is on our stock list; our two stocked inductor lines are power inductors, not beads.
What does the Walsin export get wrong on the same code?
Two rows print 221 and say something else. Of the 15 Walsin 0603 beads that print 221, 2 carry a different impedance in the field: WQBD1608K2U221TP says 1000 ohms and WQBD1608HCU221TH says 30 ohms, and a third row, WQBD1608K2U182TP, prints 182 but carries 220 ohms. A search on the impedance field finds 14 rows; a search on the printed code finds 15; they share 13.
Searching by one field alone therefore loses or adds rows. We handle this by reading both the number and the field and showing the difference, rather than choosing one silently. If you search a Walsin list yourself for 220 ohm beads at 0603, you will see the WQBD1608K2U182TP row, which reads as an 1800 ohm part by its number, and you should not take it for a 220 ohm part without the datasheet. This is a defect in the export, not a statement from Walsin about the part, and our earlier note on the ferrite bead impedance code covers the WQBD series as a whole. Our note on ferrite bead cross-referencing explains why one frequency is not enough.
What do we hold in documents for ferrite beads and medical use?
Nothing for beads, and nothing for medical use. We opened all 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and none covers a ferrite bead or an inductor; 84.2% of our 359,135 part numbers have no datasheet, and the beads are among them. The 28 are 26 MLCC approval sheets and 2 chip resistor sheets.
Venatech holds neither ISO 13485 nor ISO 9001, and we say so plainly. We hold no medical device qualification for any Walsin part, and nothing in this post claims one; the regulatory standing of your device and of its components belongs to you and your quality system. We can provide lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request. We give no customs, tax or import advice for the Dominican Republic or its free zones and state no country of origin for any part, because none of the documents we hold names a manufacturing site. Ask your compliance team.
How can Venatech help a Dominican free-zone medical device assembler?
By turning a bead number into a short, honest list and naming the field it cannot fix. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line; the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.
- Cross-reference. Paste the incumbent bead number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
- BOM check. Upload a bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
- Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced. It holds 1,125 lines and none is a ferrite bead.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.
A worked example from our own export: a 0603 bead printed 221 whose rail carries about 2 A narrows the 13 rows to 4, WLBD1608HCU221TH, MHC1608S221NBP, WLBD1608HCU221TL and MHC1608P221ZBP2A2, and the datasheet for each decides the rest. Our inductor and bead range lists the series. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
The short version
Dominican free-zone exports of medical and pharmaceutical products were 966.0 million US dollars in January to April 2026, per elDinero on 18 May 2026. A 0603 bead printed 221 has 13 Walsin rows from 0.3 to 2.2 A, 4 reach 2 A, none is on the shelf, and two WQBD rows print 221 but carry another impedance.
Send us the ferrite bead number from your device board and the current your rail carries, and we will return the Walsin rows that reach it with every open field named. Does your bill of materials say how many amps the bead was chosen for?

Frequently asked questions
How much did Dominican free zones export in January to April 2026?
elDinero reported on 18 May 2026, citing the National Council of Export Free Zones, that exports were 2,803.3 million US dollars, up 4.3%, with medical and pharmaceutical products at 966.0 million. It is one news report, so check the council’s own release.
How many Walsin 0603 ferrite beads match a number printed 221?
13 rows carry both 221 in the number and 220 ohms in the impedance field, in 6 series. Their rated current runs from 0.3 A to 2.2 A, and 4 reach 2 A. None is on the 23 September 2026 stock list. Two more rows print 221 but carry other impedance values.
Does the ferrite bead number tell me the current?
No. A bead number that prints size and 221 fixes the case and 220 ohms at 100 MHz, and nothing else. Rated current, DC resistance and thickness sit in the datasheet. Across the 13 Walsin rows the current alone varies by a factor of 7.3.
Does Venatech hold ISO 13485 for medical devices?
No. Venatech holds neither ISO 13485 nor ISO 9001. We hold no medical device qualification for any Walsin part, and we say so plainly. We can provide lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request.
Do you give customs or import advice for the Dominican Republic?
No. We give no customs, tax, free-zone or import advice and we state no country of origin for any part, because none of the documents we hold names a manufacturing site. Ask your compliance team.
How do I send you a bead to cross?
Paste the part number into the free cross-reference tool, upload a bill of materials to the BOM page, or request a quote through the site. We return Walsin candidates with each match and mismatch stated, and we say plainly where there is none.
