Chip resistor E24 values in stock on our Hong Kong shelf: the plus or minus 5 percent lines hold 20 of the 24 steps. The four absent are 2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1, and each is stocked only at plus or minus 1 percent. We counted the 23 September 2026 snapshot against Walsin’s export.
A buyer in Turkey ordering a ladder of plus or minus 5 percent resistors does not expect to find the ladder has holes. It does, and the holes are countable. Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the ready-stock snapshot dated 23 September 2026 and the chip resistor export files published by Walsin Technology (Walsin). This post joins the two on resistance value. Every part number is real, every count is of part numbers and never of pieces, and a stock line is a dated snapshot, not a live feed.
How many of the 24 E24 steps does the stocked 5 percent shelf hold?
20 of 24. We found 62 chip resistor lines at plus or minus 5 percent in the snapshot, all in the thick film general purpose group, and reduced each resistance to its three significant digits so that 15 ohm, 150 ohm and 1.5 kilohm all read as step 1.5. The 62 lines occupy 20 distinct steps. Every one of the 62 sits on an E24 step; none is off the series. We have not seen this counted anywhere for a distributor shelf.
| Step group | Steps in the group | Steps stocked at plus or minus 5% | Stocked lines | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E6: 1.0, 1.5, 2.2, 3.3, 4.7, 6.8 | 6 | 6 | 34 | Match — the whole group is present |
| Added by E12: 1.2, 1.8, 2.7, 3.9, 5.6, 8.2 | 6 | 6 | 18 | Match — the whole group is present |
| Added by E24: 1.1, 1.3, 1.6, 2.0, 2.4, 3.0, 3.6, 4.3, 5.1, 6.2, 7.5, 9.1 | 12 | 8 | 10 | Mismatch — 2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1 are absent |
| All | 24 | 20 | 62 |
The shelf leans hard on the round steps. 1.0 carries 10 lines and 4.7 carries 11, while seven of the eight stocked E24-only steps carry exactly one line each. That is what a reorder-driven shelf looks like, and it is the right shape for a buyer who designs to E12.
Which four E24 steps are missing at 5 percent, and where are they stocked?
2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1, and all four are on the shelf at plus or minus 1 percent. We checked each against the 178 stocked plus-or-minus 1 percent lines. The four missing steps are not missing from the catalogue: each appears on 546 thick film general purpose plus-or-minus 5 percent rows, 2,184 together, 16.6 percent of the 13,188. The shelf stocks them at plus or minus 1 percent on 6, 4, 1 and 1 lines.
| Missing step | Catalogue plus-or-minus 5% rows with it | Stocked plus-or-minus 1% lines | A real stocked line | The 5% part it would stand in for | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4 | 546 | 6 | WR06X2400FTL (0603, 240 ohm) |
WR06X241JTL |
Match on size and value. Mismatch on tolerance, 1% against 5%, and the terminal suffix |
| 3.0 | 546 | 4 | WR06X3000FTL (0603, 300 ohm) |
WR06X301JTL |
Match on size and value. Mismatch on tolerance |
| 3.6 | 546 | 1 | WR06X3602FTL (0603, 36 kilohm) |
WR06X363JTL |
Match on size and value. Mismatch on tolerance |
| 9.1 | 546 | 1 | WR06X9101FTL (0603, 9.1 kilohm) |
WR06X912JTL |
Match on size and value. Mismatch on tolerance |
The decade matters. The stocked 3.6 and 9.1 lines are in the kilohm decades, so a buyer who needs 360 ohm at plus or minus 5 percent has nothing on this shelf at that value. Tighter tolerance is not a specification you asked for, and whether a plus or minus 1 percent part is acceptable where the drawing says 5 percent is your qualification decision, not ours. We do not call any of these a like-for-like swap. We hold two resistor datasheets, WR and MR, and these are WR-series lines, so confirm the rated power and temperature coefficient against that datasheet.
How much of the catalogue’s 5 percent ladder does the shelf cover, by size?
61 of 1,014 pairs, or 6.0 percent. We counted distinct pairs of case size and resistance value in the catalogue’s thick film general purpose plus-or-minus 5 percent rows at the six sizes where we hold chip resistor lines. The export lists 169 values at each of those sizes, 1,014 pairs. The shelf holds 61 of them, and all 61 exist in the export.
| Case size | Stocked 5% lines | Distinct values | Distinct E24 steps | Values in the catalogue | Share | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0201 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 169 | 0.0% | Mismatch — nothing at 5% |
| 0402 | 24 | 24 | 13 | 169 | 14.2% | Match — the deepest shelf |
| 0603 | 21 | 20 | 10 | 169 | 11.8% | Match — WR06X103JTL and WR06X103JTR share one value |
| 0805 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 169 | 3.6% | Mismatch — thin |
| 1206 | 10 | 10 | 8 | 169 | 5.9% | Mismatch |
| 2512 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 169 | 0.6% | Mismatch — one line |
Two things are visible. The catalogue’s ladder is complete, 169 values per size, while the shelf holds 14.2 percent of it at its best size. And WR06X103JTL and WR06X103JTR are two lines for one value at 0603, differing only in the final letter, which is why 21 lines give 20 values. Neither 1210, 2010 nor 1218 has a stocked plus-or-minus 5 percent line. For how the catalogue ladder itself behaves, see E24 and E96 values by tolerance, and for the footprint notation, passive component case sizes.
What does the 1 percent shelf add that the 5 percent shelf does not?
The off-series values. We reduced all 178 plus-or-minus 1 percent lines the same way. 132 sit on E24 steps and 46 do not; those 46 occupy 27 distinct steps that E24 does not contain, such as 68.1 ohm in WR12X68R1FTL. The 1 percent shelf covers all 24 E24 steps and 51 steps in total, against 20 for the 5 percent shelf.
| Stocked tolerance | Lines | Distinct steps | On an E24 step | Off the E24 series | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| plus or minus 5% | 62 | 20 | 62 | 0 | Mismatch — 4 of 24 steps absent |
| plus or minus 1% | 178 | 51 | 132 | 46 | Match — all 24 present, plus 27 more |
29 case-size-and-value pairs are stocked at both tolerances. If you design to E24 at 5 percent, the practical question is not whether the value exists in the catalogue, where all 24 steps do, but whether it is in Hong Kong today. That is what the dated snapshot answers and what ready stock shows.
Can thin film fill the four missing steps?
Not at 5 percent. We checked the thin film export for each. All four steps exist in thin film, on 449, 471, 449 and 427 part numbers for 2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1, but at tolerances from plus or minus 0.01 to plus or minus 1 percent, because the thin film export lists nothing looser than plus or minus 1 percent. No thin film part number is on the shelf as at 23 September 2026.
WF06B2400TTL is 240 ohm at 0603 and plus or minus 0.01 percent. It matches the step and the size and mismatches the tolerance by a factor of 500. The case-by-case comparison is in where thin film and thick film share a size, and the stock comparison is in the shelf in the other direction. We hold no thin film datasheet.
The short version
Our Hong Kong plus-or-minus 5 percent shelf of 62 chip resistor lines holds 20 of the 24 E24 steps and 61 of the 1,014 case-size-and-value pairs the catalogue lists at the six sizes we hold. All 62 sit on E24 steps. The absent steps are 2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1, 546 catalogue rows each; all four are stocked at plus or minus 1 percent, which also adds 27 off-series steps. Thin film has all four steps but no tolerance looser than 1 percent. We will not tell you a part is equivalent. We will show you where it differs.
Send us your ladder, the values and tolerances on the BOM, and we will mark which steps are in Hong Kong today. Paste up to 500 part numbers into the free cross-reference tool, and see the shelf on ready stock, 1,125 part numbers as at 23 September 2026. A question back: if your design needs 3.0 at 5 percent and the shelf holds it only at 1 percent, do you want the tighter part, or do you want to know why you asked for the looser one?
The range is on the chip resistor page. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, sent on request. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit. Venatech Limited, Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, (852) 2628 4777.
Frequently asked questions
Which E24 resistor values are missing from your 5 percent stock?
Four: 2.4, 3.0, 3.6 and 9.1, in every decade. The 62 stocked plus-or-minus 5 percent chip resistor lines occupy 20 of the 24 steps as at 23 September 2026. All four missing steps are stocked at plus or minus 1 percent, on 6, 4, 1 and 1 lines respectively.
Are all your 5 percent chip resistors on E24 values?
Yes. All 62 stocked plus-or-minus 5 percent lines sit on one of the 24 E24 steps, and so do all 13,188 thick film general purpose plus-or-minus 5 percent rows in Walsin’s export. The off-series values appear only at plus or minus 1 percent, on 46 of 178 stocked lines.
How much of the 5 percent catalogue is on the Hong Kong shelf?
At the six sizes where we hold chip resistor lines, the export lists 169 values per size, 1,014 pairs of size and value. The shelf holds 61 of them, 6.0 percent, with the deepest coverage at 0402 where 24 of 169 values, 14.2 percent, are stocked.
Can I use a 1 percent resistor where the drawing says 5 percent?
That is your qualification decision. A plus-or-minus 1 percent line is a tighter tolerance, not the same specification, and it can differ in rated power and temperature coefficient too. We show the fields side by side and do not call any part equivalent. Confirm against the datasheet and qualify in your own circuit.
Does thin film offer 5 percent resistors?
No. The thin film export’s loosest tolerance is plus or minus 1 percent, and at 0402 and above the WF series lists only plus or minus 0.01 percent. All four missing E24 steps exist in thin film, but at tighter tolerances, and none is on our shelf.
Is this stock list live?
No. It is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers of which 254 are chip resistors. Counts here are of part numbers, not pieces. For a current answer on a specific value, send the part number and we will tell you what is physically in Hong Kong.
