Chip Resistor Stock by Case Size: 13 of Walsin’s 19 Case-Size Labels Hold Zero Lines on Our Hong Kong Shelf

Chip resistor stock by case size is lopsided: six of Walsin’s 19 case-size labels hold all 249 matched chip resistor lines on our Hong Kong shelf, and 13 hold none. Those 13 are 48,475 catalogue part numbers, 20.7 percent. Per thousand catalogue part numbers, 0402 is covered about 32 times deeper than 2512.

If you are designing around a 2010 or a 1210 and you read “chip resistors in stock” on a distributor’s page, you have been told nothing. Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, took its ready-stock snapshot of 23 September 2026 and set the 254 lines labelled chip resistor against the 234,401 distinct part numbers in the chip resistor exports of Walsin Technology (Walsin). We parsed every line, joined 249 of them to a catalogue row in the Walsin_ChipR_Product_Data exports with spaces removed, and counted by the case-size label Walsin prints in its Size column. Every part number below is real. Every figure is a part-number count, not a piece count.

Which chip resistor case sizes does the Hong Kong shelf cover?

Six. We counted the 249 lines that join the export: 100 at 0603, 80 at 0402, 33 at 1206, 30 at 0805, 4 at 0201 and 2 at 2512. The catalogue prints 19 distinct case-size labels, and 13 of them have no stocked line. The shelf is not a small copy of the catalogue. It is a different shape.

Case size Catalogue part numbers Share of catalogue Stocked lines Share of shelf Example stocked code Match / mismatch — shelf share against catalogue share
0603 42,374 18.1% 100 40.2% WR06X102JTL Mismatch — 2.2x over-weight
0402 27,961 11.9% 80 32.1% WR04X1003FTL Mismatch — 2.7x over-weight
1206 37,566 16.0% 33 13.3% WR12X101JTL Match — within 1.2x of its share
0805 38,044 16.2% 30 12.0% WR08X182JTL Match — within 1.4x of its share
0201 17,827 7.6% 4 1.6% WR02X1002FAL Mismatch — 4.7x under-weight
2512 22,154 9.5% 2 0.8% WR25X330JTL Mismatch — 11.9x under-weight

0603 and 0402 together are 30.0 percent of the catalogue and 72.3 percent of the shelf. Five more lines on the snapshot carry the chip resistor label and do not join: three WF codes whose catalogue twin differs by one character at the tolerance position, one code with a four-zero resistance field, and one varistor code filed under a resistor label. We left all five out of the counts.

How uneven is shelf coverage per thousand catalogue part numbers?

By a factor of about 32 between the best and the worst stocked size. We divided stocked lines by catalogue part numbers and scaled to a thousand. 0402 scores 2.86 stocked lines per thousand catalogue part numbers, 0603 scores 2.36, 1206 scores 0.88, 0805 scores 0.79, 0201 scores 0.22 and 2512 scores 0.09. 80 of 27,961 against 2 of 22,154.

Case size Stocked lines Catalogue part numbers Lines per 1,000 Standard pack quantity on the shelf Match / mismatch — depth against 0402
0402 80 27,961 2.86 10,000 reference
0603 100 42,374 2.36 5,000 Mismatch — 0.8x
1206 33 37,566 0.88 5,000 Mismatch — 0.3x
0805 30 38,044 0.79 5,000 Mismatch — 0.3x
0201 4 17,827 0.22 15,000 Mismatch — 0.08x
2512 2 22,154 0.09 4,000 Mismatch — 0.03x

We read the pack quantity from the shelf list’s SPQ column, which is filled on all 254 chip resistor lines. The pack quantity moves the other way. Smaller bodies pack 15,000 and 10,000 to the reel, larger ones 5,000 and 4,000, and every stocked size carries exactly one pack quantity. For the packaging column behind those numbers, see chip resistor reel quantity.

Which 13 case-size labels hold no stocked line, and how much of the catalogue is that?

48,475 catalogue part numbers, or 20.7 percent. We summed every label with a stocked count of zero. 2010 and 1210 alone are 39,087 part numbers, 16.7 percent of the catalogue, and neither has a line on the shelf. The remaining eleven are 1218, 0612, two spellings of 1225, 1020, 01005, three multi-element array labels, 0306 and 0815.

Case-size label Catalogue part numbers Example catalogue code Stocked lines Match / mismatch
2010 20,938 WF20H1R00BTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
1210 18,149 WF10H10R0BTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
1218 3,318 MR18W1R00FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
0612 1,725 WW12YR0L5FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
1225 (3264) 1,708 WK25L1R00FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
1020 878 WK20L1R00FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
01005 755 WR01X10R0FDL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
0602 by 8 array 555 WA06W10R0FTLN 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
0201 by 2 and by 4 arrays 388 WA02G1000FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line
1225 (3263), 0306, 0815 61 WW25YR0L5FTL 0 Mismatch — no stocked line

We have not seen this counted anywhere: the share of a manufacturer’s chip resistor catalogue that a distributor’s own shelf cannot touch, measured by the manufacturer’s own case-size label. It is not a flaw in the shelf. It is the cost of 19 sizes, and the number a buyer needs before assuming “in stock” covers a 2010. The two spellings of 1225 are a separate Walsin data issue that we published in one case size, two metric codes: the 1225 problem.

Does the shelf cover the rated-power range inside each stocked size?

No, and the gap is wider than the size gap. We counted distinct rated powers per case size in the catalogue and on the shelf. 0603 carries 6 rated powers in the catalogue and the shelf holds 1: all 100 stocked 0603 lines are 1/10 W. 0402 shows 5 against 1, 0201 shows 2 against 1, and 2512 shows 3 against 1.

Case size Rated powers in the catalogue Rated powers on the shelf Stocked rating Match / mismatch
0201 2 1 1/20 W Mismatch — 1 of 2
0402 5 1 1/16 W Mismatch — 1 of 5
0603 6 1 1/10 W Mismatch — 1 of 6
0805 6 2 1/8 W and 1/4 W Mismatch — 2 of 6
1206 7 3 1/4 W, 1/2 W and 3/4 W Mismatch — 3 of 7
2512 3 1 1 W Mismatch — 1 of 3

A 0603 resistor that must dissipate 1/4 W is a catalogue part, not a shelf part. Our reading of the power steps themselves is in chip resistor power rating by case size.

Which series do the stocked chip resistor lines come from?

Six of 58 series and five of 14 series groups. We grouped the 249 lines by the export’s Series Group. Thick Film General Purpose supplies 236 of 249 lines, 94.8 percent, from a group that is 32.3 percent of the catalogue. The other four stocked groups supply 13 lines between them.

Series group Catalogue part numbers Share of catalogue Stocked lines Example Match / mismatch
Thick Film General Purpose 75,628 32.3% 236 WR06X102JTL Mismatch — 2.9x over-weight
High Precision Thick Film 52,027 22.2% 5 WF04H1202DTL Mismatch — 0.1x
High Power 39,841 17.0% 1 MF12P3303FTL Mismatch — 0.02x
Anti-Surge 17,180 7.3% 4 MF12E1R00FTL Mismatch — 0.2x
Low Ohm Current Sense, thick film 10,428 4.4% 3 WW08WR270FTL Mismatch — 0.3x
Nine other groups, including High Voltage, Array and Trimmable 39,297 16.8% 0 WK25L1R00FTL Mismatch — no stocked line

Read by export file instead of by group and the concentration tightens: Thick_Film_General_Purpose_1_1_10W.xlsx supplies 78 lines, Thick_Film_General_Purpose_5.xlsx 62 and Thick_Film_General_Purpose_1_1_16W.xlsx 53. Three files in the Walsin_ChipR_Product_Data folder hold 193 of 249 lines, 77.5 percent, counting each code in the first file where we found it. High Voltage alone is 20,244 part numbers with no line. If your need sits in one of the nine, the shelf cannot help and a cross is the right first move.

What should a buyer on a 2010, 1210 or 01005 line do?

Cross it, enquire, and do not assume. The shelf is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers across all lines, of which 254 are labelled chip resistor. A size with zero lines is not a size Walsin does not make: 2010 has 20,938 catalogue part numbers. Paste up to 500 part numbers into the free cross-reference tool, read the ready stock page for what sits in Hong Kong today, and ask us for the rest.

We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and two of them cover chip resistors. Neither covers 2010, 1210 or 01005 as a stated size, so for those we will say what the export prints and nothing more. The product range sits on the chip resistor page.

The short version

We counted 249 stocked chip resistor lines against 234,401 catalogue part numbers. Six of 19 case-size labels hold every line. 13 hold none, and those 13 are 20.7 percent of the catalogue. 0402 is covered 2.86 lines per thousand, 2512 only 0.09. 0603 shows 1 rated power of 6. General Purpose is 94.8 percent of the shelf. We will not tell you “chip resistors in stock” means your chip resistor. We will tell you which of 19 sizes it means. Qualification stays with you.

Send us your 2010, 1210 or 01005 list and we will tell you what the shelf holds and what needs a cross. And a question back: how many of your approved resistor lines sit in a size the distributor you use has never stocked?

Frequently asked questions

How many chip resistor case sizes does the Hong Kong shelf cover?

Six of 19. In our snapshot of 23 September 2026, 249 chip resistor lines join Walsin’s export: 100 at 0603, 80 at 0402, 33 at 1206, 30 at 0805, 4 at 0201 and 2 at 2512. The other 13 case-size labels have no stocked line. These are part-number counts, not piece counts.

Is 2010 or 1210 chip resistor stock held in Hong Kong?

Not on the snapshot of 23 September 2026. 2010 has 20,938 catalogue part numbers and 1210 has 18,149, together 39,087, and neither has a stocked line. Walsin lists both sizes. Cross the part with the free tool and ask us what can be supplied against it.

What share of Walsin’s chip resistor catalogue is on the shelf by size?

By stocked lines per thousand catalogue part numbers, 0402 scores 2.86, 0603 2.36, 1206 0.88, 0805 0.79, 0201 0.22 and 2512 0.09. The other 13 labels score zero. The spread between 0402 and 2512 is about 32 times.

Why does the shelf hold only one rated power at 0603?

All 100 stocked 0603 lines are 1/10 W, while the catalogue carries 6 rated powers at that size. We do not know why the shelf is shaped that way. A 0603 part at a higher rating is a catalogue part, so cross it and enquire.

Which chip resistor series dominate the stock?

Thick Film General Purpose supplies 236 of 249 stocked lines, 94.8 percent, from a group that is 32.3 percent of the catalogue. Nine of the 14 series groups, including High Voltage, Array and Trimmable, have no stocked line. Count by series group, not by the word chip resistor.

Are these counts a stock level?

No. They count part numbers on a dated snapshot, as at 23 September 2026. They are not pieces and not a live feed. Availability changes, so check a code on the ready-stock page and ask us to confirm before you design a line around it.
