Electronics Manufacturing in Arizona and Texas, United States: With Chip Plants Rising in Both States, All 72 Stocked Walsin 0402 MLCC Lines Come in Packs of 10,000, and the 22 Lines Packed at 2,000 or Fewer Are All 1206 or Larger

Electronics manufacturing in Arizona and Texas, United States, is gaining chip capacity, but a pilot board run still buys capacitors by the pack. We counted our stock snapshot: all 72 stocked Walsin 0402 MLCC lines carry a 10,000-piece standard pack, and only 1206 and larger cases are packed at 2,000 or fewer.

A fab opens in Sherman, a packaging campus is planned in Peoria, and the board shop down the road still has to buy a few thousand 0402 capacitors to build three hundred boards. Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds a dated stock snapshot of Walsin Technology (Walsin) parts, and this post is for a procurement engineer or NPI buyer at an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) firm in Arizona or Texas who needs to know what a Hong Kong source can offer on a first lot. Every part number is real and every count is ours. Where it states a news item, it names the source, its date and the day we read it.

What is being built in Arizona and Texas, and why would a board buyer care?

Chip capacity is being added in both states, and the packaging step is moving to Arizona. Evertiq reported on 18 December 2025 that Texas Instruments started production at its SM1 300 mm wafer fab in Sherman, Texas, and TrendForce reported on 17 June 2026 that TSMC and Amkor signed a 10-year agreement for advanced packaging in Arizona. We read both on 23 October 2026.

Evertiq says the Sherman opening ceremony was on 17 December 2025 and that output ramps with customer demand. TrendForce (17 June 2026) says the TSMC and Amkor deal is a framework under which TSMC buys packaging and testing services from Amkor, and cites Reuters (21 May 2026) for production at Amkor’s new Arizona campus starting in 2028. A second TrendForce report (15 September 2026) says, using the word reportedly, that Amkor raised its planned second-phase Arizona investment from seven billion to twelve billion US dollars, and that ASE’s SPIL unit is reportedly in the final stages of planning an Arizona facility. A reported plan is not a signed one, and we treat that report as such.

Our view, labelled as ours: a wafer fab or a packaging campus does not populate a board. The passives on the boards that surround those chips are bought by the EMS firms nearby, usually in small, repeated first lots before a programme settles. The sources above do not say that. It is our reading of where a capacitor order starts.

What pack size does a pilot lot meet on our shelf?

It meets the same pack size for every line of a case size, and the pack grows as the case shrinks. We opened the pack-size column of our stock snapshot dated 23 September 2026 and matched 240 stocked MLCC lines to the Walsin export: all 9 stocked 0201 lines carry a 15,000-piece pack, all 72 at 0402 carry 10,000, and all 72 at 0603 carry 4,000.

Take a pilot of 500 boards that each use four of the same capacitor. That is 2,000 pieces of one value, our scenario and not a customer’s. The table sets that need against the pack size we found for each case size. A pack larger than the need is a mismatch only on pack size, not on the part.

Case size Stocked MLCC lines with a pack size Standard pack (pieces) Match / mismatch (2,000-piece pilot of one value)
0201 9 15,000 Mismatch: the pack is 7.5 times the need
0402 72 10,000 Mismatch: 5 times the need
0603 72 4,000 Mismatch: 2 times the need
0805 49 3,000 to 4,000 Mismatch on every line
1206 24 2,000 to 4,000 Match on 9 lines at 2,000; mismatch on the other 15
1210 and larger 14 500 to 3,000 Match on 13 of 14 lines at 2,000 or fewer

We have not seen this counted anywhere: of the 22 stocked MLCC lines packed at 2,000 pieces or fewer, every one is a 1206 or larger case: 9 at 1206, 4 at 1210, 4 at 1812, 3 at 1808, and one each at 2211 and 2220. The small cases that dominate a modern board are exactly the lines packed in the largest quantities. The pack-size column is in the stock snapshot only. It is blank on 624 of its 1,125 lines, and the Walsin export we hold carries no pack size at all, so this is a count of what the snapshot states and not of what Walsin can pack to order.

Chip resistors follow the same rule. All 254 stocked chip resistor lines state a pack size: 78 WR04 (0402) lines at 10,000, 100 WR06 (0603) lines at 5,000, and 4 WR02 (0201) lines at 15,000. Pack size is a packaging quantity, not a count of what we hold.

Which stocked parts fit a first lot of 2,000 pieces?

Only the larger cases fit without leaving most of a pack unused. Here are real stocked parts at each case size from the export and the snapshot. Each is a Walsin part from the general purpose range or the WR resistor range, and each is in the stock snapshot of 23 September 2026.

Walsin part Description (export) Case Standard pack (pieces) Match / mismatch (2,000-piece pilot)
0402B103K100 MLCC X7R, 10 nF, 10 V 0402 10,000 Mismatch on pack: 5 times the need
0603B103K101 MLCC X7R, 10 nF, 100 V 0603 4,000 Mismatch on pack: 2 times the need
0805B103K500 MLCC X7R, 10 nF, 50 V 0805 4,000 Mismatch on pack: 2 times the need
1206B225K250 MLCC X7R, 2.2 µF, 25 V 1206 2,000 Match: one pack equals the pilot
1210B106K250 MLCC X7R, 10 µF, 25 V 1210 1,000 Match: two packs cover the pilot
WR04X1003FTL Thick film chip resistor, 100 kΩ, ±1%, 1/16 W 0402 10,000 Mismatch on pack: 5 times the need

Two caveats apply. A pack mismatch is a procurement fact and not a fault in the part, and if your lot is smaller than a pack, ask us whether a partial quantity is possible for that line. We make no promise from this table. The second caveat is that our resistor sample is one row of 254, and the 1/16 W rating is taken from the Walsin export for that part, so confirm it against the Walsin datasheet before you commit a footprint. Our post on how to cross-reference an MLCC shows the field-by-field check we run first, and our note on MLCC shelf life, storage and handling covers what to do with the unused part of a pack.

What do we not hold for a production EMS line?

We hold no quality-system certificate that an EMS customer audit usually asks for, and we say so before the audit does. Venatech holds neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949, and of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, none states a manufacturing site or a country of origin.

What we can offer is checkable. We are an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, we can send the datasheets we hold on request, and we offer lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request, in original sealed Walsin packaging. We state no country of origin, because the documents we hold do not. If your customer’s programme needs one, ask us and we will pass the request to Walsin. The stock list is a dated snapshot and not a live feed. The ready stock page shows what is held in Hong Kong now, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts, for stock.

How can Venatech help an Arizona or Texas EMS buyer?

By crossing the incumbent part you already buy, stating the differences, and saying plainly what pack it comes in. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, and Walsin is our only authorised line. The other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.

  • Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
  • BOM check. Upload a pilot-build bill of materials, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file, to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
  • Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
  • Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.

A worked example from our own files: a pilot BOM with a 10 µF, 25 V, 1210 X7R capacitor maps to 1210B106K250, which is stocked at a 1,000-piece pack and so suits a 2,000-piece lot. The same BOM’s 10 nF, 10 V, 0402 line maps to 0402B103K100, stocked at 10,000. Our MLCC range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own build.

The short version

Chip capacity is being added in Sherman, Texas and planned in Arizona, but a pilot lot still meets the pack. In our 23 September 2026 snapshot every stocked 0402 MLCC line is packed at 10,000, every 0603 line at 4,000, and the only lines packed at 2,000 or fewer are 1206 and larger.

Send us the first-lot BOM from one board and we will return the Walsin candidates, the differences, and the pack each stocked line comes in. When your next pilot is 500 boards, which line on the BOM is the one whose pack you cannot use up?
