Sourcing passive components for Malaysia from Hong Kong starts with one ambiguous line on the bill of materials. We counted Walsin’s chip resistor export: a 0.47 ohm, 1%, 0805 sense resistor has 7 part numbers across 4 power ratings and 4 TCR grades, and 1 of them is on our Hong Kong shelf.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) chip resistor export of 234,815 rows, 234,401 of them distinct part numbers once embedded spaces are removed. This post is for a procurement engineer at a Malaysian electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider or LED lighting maker who has a sense resistor on a driver board and wants a Hong Kong source in small lots. Every part number below is real, every count is ours, and the market figure is sourced and dated.
Why does the Malaysian electrical and electronics export figure matter to a component buyer?
Because it tells you how much of the country’s output is the kind of board you buy for. Malaysia’s electrical and electronics exports were 563.65 billion ringgit in January to July 2026, which The Star reported on 8 September 2026 as 48.4% of total exports of 1.165 trillion ringgit. We read the report on 23 October 2026.
The same report gives total trade for the seven months and a 29.2% rise in total exports. It does not break out lighting, and it gives no growth rate for electrical and electronics on its own, so we do not either. MATRADE’s January to June 2026 release says export growth was led by electrical and electronics products, with total exports of 971.59 billion ringgit, up 27.5% on the year, and names optical and scientific equipment among the other gainers.
Our view, labelled as ours: when half of a country’s exports are electrical and electronics, an EMS buyer is rarely short of a design. The scarce thing is a clean, unambiguous bill of materials line, and that is where the count below comes from. Neither source says anything about resistors.
How many Walsin parts answer a 0.47 ohm, 1%, 0805 sense resistor?
Seven, and they are not interchangeable. We parsed the 38,044 distinct 0805 part numbers in the Walsin chip resistor export and found 7 at 0.47 ohm and plus or minus 1%, spread over 4 rated powers (1/8, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 W) and 4 TCR grades (500, 300, 150 and 100 ppm per degree). One of the seven is on our shelf.
A bill of materials that reads “0.47R 1% 0805” does not say which of the seven you mean. LED drivers use a resistor like this to set or sense current, and the power and TCR decide whether it stays in tolerance on a hot board. The load is your design, not ours, and we give no rating advice. We list the seven so that you see the spread.
| Walsin part | Series (export) | Rated power | TCR (ppm/°C) | In stock 23 September 2026 | Match / mismatch (0.47 ohm, 1%, 0805) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
WW08XR470FTL |
Thick film low ohm current sense | 1/8 W | 500 | No | Match on value, tolerance, case; mismatch on power and TCR if you need 1/4 W |
WW08ER470FTL |
Power low ohm current sense | 1/4 W | 300 | No | Match on value, tolerance, case, 1/4 W; mismatch on TCR against 100 |
WW08WR470FTL |
Thick film low ohm current sense | 1/4 W | 100 | Yes | Match on value, tolerance, case, 1/4 W and 100 ppm |
WW08WR470FTLJ |
Same, automotive series | 1/4 W | 100 | No | Match on all fields above; mismatch on series if you do not want an automotive-named part |
WW08WR470FTL FN |
Power low ohm current sense | 1/2 W | 100 | No | Match on value and case; mismatch: 1/2 W, not 1/4 W |
WW08WR470FTLJFN |
Power low ohm, automotive series | 1/2 W | 100 | No | Mismatch on power and series |
WW08PR470FTL |
Power low ohm current sense | 1/3 W | 150 | No | Mismatch on power and TCR |
Note the space in WW08WR470FTL FN. The export prints it that way, and a paste of the version without the space will not match. Our post on why Walsin part numbers do not paste into your BOM explains the pattern.
Why does a search for 0.47 ohm miss the sense resistors?
Because the export spells the same value two ways. We counted the 0805 resistance field: the text “0.470Ω” appears on 14 part numbers, all of them current sense parts, and the text “0.47Ω” appears on 7 others, none at 1%. A filter on one spelling returns none of the other.
The seven with the short spelling are one high power LF 100 ppm part at 5% (WF08P0R47JTR) and six anti-surge parts at 5%, 10% or 20%. Across every case size the split is 83 parts at “0.470Ω” and 46 at “0.47Ω”. A third text, “0.475Ω”, is a different value on the E96 ladder, and 71 parts carry it. We have not seen this counted anywhere: for an EMS buyer who filters the 0805 export on “0.47Ω” and 1%, the result is zero sense resistors, although 7 exist under “0.470Ω”. Our post on low-ohm current sense, thick film against metal covers the technology choice. This one is only about finding the part.
Which Walsin parts cross a 0.47 ohm, 1% LED driver sense resistor?
The stocked part matches on every field except the ones you have not told us. Suppose your board uses a 0.47 ohm, 1%, 0805, 1/4 W resistor at 100 ppm. Of the seven candidates, WW08WR470FTL and its automotive-named twin WW08WR470FTLJ match on all five fields, and only the first is on the shelf.
The two 1/2 W parts and the 1/3 W part are not replacements at the same dissipation, and the 1/8 W part gives up half the rating. Whether a higher rating helps your thermal design is your engineer’s decision. Confirm tolerance, TCR, power derating and termination against the Walsin datasheet. Two things we do not hold: a datasheet for the low-ohm current sense family (our two resistor datasheets cover the MR and WR general purpose series), and any statement of how a part ages under LED driver load.
What do we hold in stock, and what does our paperwork say about lighting?
Four low-ohm lines out of 254 chip resistors, and a thin trail for lighting. We counted our stock list as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers: 4 chip resistor lines are at 1 ohm or below, of 12,594 such part numbers in the export, and the word LED appears in none of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages.
The word lighting appears in 9 of the 28. In 4 it means back-lighting inverters, in 3 it is part of “equipment for lighting or surge” in a list of applications, and in 2 it is the line “Lighting industry” in the applications of the soft termination capacitor sheets. None is a statement about LED luminaires, and we make no luminaire claim. The 4 stocked lines at 1 ohm or below are WW08WR270FTL, WW08WR390FTL, WW08WR470FTL and MF12E1R00FTL, and the stock list is a dated snapshot. The ready stock page shows what we hold now, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts.
How can Venatech help a Malaysian EMS or lighting maker?
By turning the ambiguous line into a stated one, in small lots. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.
- Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
- BOM check. Upload a driver or power-board bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
- Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.
A worked example from our own export: a “0.47R 1% 0805 1/4 W” line maps to WW08WR470FTL (stocked) and WW08ER470FTL (300 ppm), and the 1/2 W parts are a power mismatch. Our chip resistor range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit. Tell your compliance team about any import or product rule; we give no legal advice.
The short version
Malaysia’s electrical and electronics exports were 48.4% of the total to July 2026, per The Star on 8 September 2026. For a sense resistor the useful number is smaller: 7 Walsin part numbers answer 0.47 ohm, 1%, 0805, with 4 powers and 4 TCR grades, and 1 is on the shelf. The value is spelled two ways in the export, so a short filter finds none of them.
Send us the sense resistor line from one driver board and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. When your bill of materials says only “0.47R 1%”, which of the seven did your design assume?
