Inverter control-board capacitors for Nigeria can be crossed line by line. Five Murata GRM ordering codes decode to 16 Walsin Technology (Walsin) part numbers that share size, dielectric, value, tolerance and voltage, spread over 5 series. Four of the 16 are on our Hong Kong shelf, and every difference is stated below.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, wrote this for a purchasing or design engineer at a Nigerian inverter, UPS or solar-storage assembler whose bill of materials is written in Murata codes and who wants a second source without a long email thread. We took five real GRM lines, decoded each one field by field, and searched the Walsin MLCC export of 24,026 rows (23,601 distinct part numbers) for parts that agree. News statements name their source and the day we fetched it, 23 October 2026.
What is happening in Nigeria’s solar and inverter market?
Nigeria is one of Africa’s biggest solar importers. According to Ember, Nigeria imported 1,721 MW of solar panels in the 12 months to June 2025, the second-largest total in Africa after it overtook Egypt, while the continent’s total reached 15,032 MW, up 60 percent from 9,379 MW a year earlier.
A second source puts a naira figure on the same trend. BusinessDay reported on 26 May 2026, citing National Bureau of Statistics trade data, that solar panel imports in 2025 were worth 435.52 billion naira, falling from 125.29 billion in the first quarter to 92 billion in the third before recovering to 100.83 billion in the fourth. That article covers panels only and does not mention inverters or batteries, so we do not read it as an inverter count. Our own reasoning, labelled as ours: every imported panel eventually meets a charge controller or inverter, and those boards carry the capacitors this post is about. We have no relationship with any Nigerian importer or assembler.
How do five Murata GRM ordering codes decode?
Each code splits into ten fields. We decoded five GRM codes with Murata’s GRM Hi-Cap numbering guide (document ID FM7500U-092-MAY09), which prints the size, thickness, temperature, voltage, capacitance and tolerance codes used below; none of the five is a Walsin code, so none appears in the Walsin export.
Two honest limits. The guide’s own document ID dates it to May 2009, and Murata’s current numbering PDF would not load for us on 23 October 2026, so we used only codes that the older guide prints (sizes 18, 21, 31 and 32; R6 and R7 for X5R and X7R; 1E, 1H and 2A for 25 V, 50 V and 100 V; K for plus or minus 10 percent). We saw each full code in distributor listings, which shows the code exists; we did not confirm it with Murata.
| Murata GRM code | Size | Thickness code | Dielectric | Capacitance | Tolerance | Voltage | In Walsin export? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
GRM32ER71H106KA12L |
1210 | E, 2.5 mm | X7R | 10 uF | plus or minus 10% | 50 V | No (Murata code) |
GRM31CR71H475KA12L |
1206 | C, 1.6 mm | X7R | 4.7 uF | plus or minus 10% | 50 V | No (Murata code) |
GRM32ER72A225KA35L |
1210 | E, 2.5 mm | X7R | 2.2 uF | plus or minus 10% | 100 V | No (Murata code) |
GRM188R72A104KA35D |
0603 | 8, 0.8 mm | X7R | 100 nF | plus or minus 10% | 100 V | No (Murata code) |
GRM21BR61E106KA73L |
0805 | B, 1.25 mm | X5R | 10 uF | plus or minus 10% | 25 V | No (Murata code) |
Read the lines as a plausible inverter set: a 10 uF 50 V bulk part and a 4.7 uF 50 V part on the control and gate-drive supply, a 2.2 uF 100 V stage, a 100 nF 100 V bypass and a 10 uF 25 V logic-rail part. That grouping is our illustration, not a statement about any customer’s design.
Which Walsin parts match each line, and where do they differ?
Sixteen Walsin part numbers match all five fields. We counted 18 export rows and 16 distinct part numbers across five series (General Purpose, soft termination SH, automotive soft termination ST, automotive MT and low profile TT), and every one of the five lines has a plain General Purpose candidate.
The table shows the General Purpose candidate first, then the other series that agree on the five electrical fields. Walsin’s dielectric letters are B for X7R and X for X5R, as in our post on how to read a Walsin MLCC part number.
| Murata line | Walsin General Purpose candidate | Thickness (Walsin export) | On shelf 23 Sep 2026 | Other series that agree | Match / mismatch |

Match on size, X7R, 10 uF, 10%, 50 V and 2.5 mm nominal. Mismatch: not on shelf; two export rows carry different thickness bands |
GRM31CR71H475KA12L |
1206B475K500 |
1.60 +0.30/-0.10 mm | No | ST31B475K500, SH31B475K500 |

Match on all five fields and 2.5 mm nominal. Mismatch: SH32B225K101 has two export rows, 2.50 and 2.00 mm |
GRM188R72A104KA35D |
0603B104K101 |
0.80 +0.15/-0.10 mm | Yes | MT18B104K101, ST18B104K101, SH18B104K101 |
Match on all five fields and 0.8 mm nominal |
GRM21BR61E106KA73L |
0805X106K250 |
1.25 plus or minus 0.20 mm | Yes | SH21X106K250 |
Match on all five fields and 1.25 mm nominal. Mismatch: SH21X106K250 has no thickness value in the export |
Thickness tolerance is the field to read twice. The Murata guide prints nominal thickness only, so we compared nominal values; the Walsin bands are wide (up to plus or minus 0.50 mm on the 100 V 1210 part), and a tight enclosure or a wave-soldered stack should be checked against both datasheets.
What does the Hong Kong shelf hold for these five lines?
Four part numbers. Of the 16 candidates, our stock list as at 23 September 2026 holds 0603B104K101, 0805X106K250, 1210B225K101 and SH31B475K500; three of the five lines have their plain General Purpose part on the shelf, and the 10 uF 50 V line has nothing.
We matched the stock list’s 864 MLCC rows to the export and 762 matched (we counted by catalogue key, ignoring the packaging suffix). The shelf is a dated snapshot, not live-synced; the ready-stock list shows the full 1,125 part numbers and our post on Walsin passive components in Hong Kong stock explains what it covers. For the 4.7 uF line the shelf part is the soft-termination variant, which is a different construction from the plain part, so the cross is conditional on you accepting that. For a family overview see our MLCC range.
We have not seen this counted anywhere: five common inverter-board capacitor lines, 16 exact-spec Walsin part numbers in 18 rows, two part numbers listed twice with different thickness bands, and a shelf that covers 3 of 5 lines with the plain series and 4 of 16 candidates overall.
What should a Nigerian inverter maker check that this table cannot show?
Four things, none of them settled by a part number. First, DC bias: a 50 V X7R part loses capacitance under bias, and the five Walsin candidates were matched on nominal value only. Our post on MLCC DC bias and voltage derating shows how to check it.
Second, thickness bands as above. Third, series choice: the MT and ST series are named by Walsin for AEC-Q200 automotive use, and an inverter does not need them unless your customer says so; we make no claim about what your design requires. Fourth, qualification stays with you. We hold no office, entity or stock in Nigeria, we give no legal, customs or conformity advice (confirm with your compliance team), and we hold no ISO 9001 certificate. Our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. Open the Murata datasheet and the Walsin datasheet for each pair, because a datasheet states what a part number and an export row do not; our counts come from the Walsin export and the stock list as at 23 September 2026, and from the Murata datasheet we cite, not from any Walsin datasheet. Send us the Walsin datasheet request and we will return the pages for the series you shortlist.
How Venatech helps
Paste a Murata, Samsung, TDK or Yageo code into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch. Load a whole BOM, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file, to run every line at once. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026.
Worked example from our own export: the five lines above returned 18 rows and 16 distinct part numbers, and our shelf covers 4 of them. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We serve from Hong Kong in small lots and cross-reference by hand when a code will not decode. A quote is requested through the site, and the 28 datasheets we hold (451 pages) are sent on request.
The short version
For a Nigerian inverter maker, a Murata-coded capacitor line is not a dead end: five lines gave 16 Walsin part numbers that agree on size, dielectric, value, tolerance and voltage, 5 of 5 lines have a plain General Purpose candidate, and 3 of 5 have it on the Hong Kong shelf. The open items are bias, thickness and the soft-termination substitution on one line.
Paste your inverter BOM into /bom/ or send us the Murata lines you want crossed, and we will return the Walsin candidates with the differences named. Which of your five most-used capacitor lines still has no second source?
