Mining IoT Sensor Electronics for Australia from Hong Kong: A Murata GRM155R71C104KA88D and a TDK C1005X7R1C104K050BC Decode to the Same 100 Nanofarad, 16 Volt X7R 0402 Line, and 11 Walsin Rows in 5 Series Answer It, 1 on Our Shelf

Mining IoT sensor electronics for Australia usually start from a Murata or TDK string already on the bill of materials. We decoded one of each, a Murata GRM155R71C104KA88D and a TDK C1005X7R1C104K050BC, to the same 100 nanofarad, 16 volt, X7R, 0402 line. We counted 11 Walsin Technology (Walsin) rows in 5 series that answer it, and 1 is on our Hong Kong shelf.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin MLCC export (00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx) of 24,026 rows, 23,601 of them distinct part numbers, and a stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a design or procurement engineer at an Australian maker of sensor nodes, trackers or gateways for mines and processing plants who wants a second source on a decoupling capacitor, bought in small lots from Hong Kong. Every Walsin part number is real, every count is ours, and each news statement names its source and the day we fetched it, 23 October 2026.

What do Australia’s September 2026 export forecasts mean for a mining IoT buyer?

Big numbers that are an operator’s revenue, not your order book. An article dated 5 October 2026 on ima-api.org, summarising the September 2026 Resources and Energy Quarterly, reports Australian resources and energy export earnings of 403 billion Australian dollars in 2025-26 and a forecast of 422 billion in 2026-27, an increase of 19 billion.

The same article puts gold falling from almost 72 billion in 2025-26 to 68 billion in 2026-27, and copper rising from 14 billion in 2025-26 to 19 billion in real terms by 2030-31. We tried the government’s own publication page, https://www.industry.gov.au/REQSeptember2026, and its site disallows automated access, so we could not read the primary release and we report that. Our view, labelled as ours: a sensor node that reports vibration, temperature or position from a mine is a small board with a long bill of materials tail, and the commodity forecasts say nothing about whether any one capacitor is short. We have no relationship with any mining company.

What do a Murata and a TDK part number say, field by field?

Six fields agree and two do not compare. We resolved both strings on retailer pages on 23 October 2026: the Murata page lists 100 nF, 16 V, X7R, plus or minus 10%, 0402, 0.5 mm thick, and the TDK page lists 100 nF, 16 V, X7R, plus or minus 10%, 0402. We could not open either maker’s own numbering PDF from here, so the letters below are read against those pages and against Murata’s published voltage and dielectric codes, and we mark what we did not decode.

Field Murata GRM155R71C104KA88D TDK C1005X7R1C104K050BC Walsin side (export) Match / mismatch
Case 155, 0402 1005, metric size of 0402 0402 or code 15 Match
Dielectric R7, X7R X7R printed X7R Match
Rated voltage 1C, 16 V 1C, 16 V 160, 16 Vdc Match
Capacitance 104, 100 nF 104, 100 nF 104 Match
Tolerance K, plus or minus 10% K K Match on the letter; see the MG note below
Thickness 0.5 mm on the retailer page 050, read as 0.50 mm 0.50 plus or minus 0.05 on 8 rows, plus or minus 0.20 on 3 Open: compare the makers’ own thickness tolerance
Trailing letters A88 and D BC none Not comparable: individual specification and packaging, not decoded

Neither string is in the Walsin export, and neither is a Walsin number. Our post on crossing an 0603 X7R line from Murata to Walsin sets out the method, and crossing TDK and Taiyo Yuden MLCC to Walsin covers the TDK side.

Which Walsin rows answer a 100 nanofarad, 16 volt, X7R, 0402 line?

Eleven, in five series. We parsed all 24,026 MLCC rows and filtered 0402, X7R, 100 nF and 16 V: 11 rows, being 3 general purpose, 3 MT, 2 MG, 2 SH and 1 ST, of which 5 carry the plus or minus 10% letter K. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

Walsin part Series as exported Tolerance cell, body thickness On shelf 23 Sep 2026 Match / mismatch against the two incumbents
0402B104K160 General purpose +-10%, 0.50 +-0.05 Yes Match on the six fields above; thickness tolerance open
MT15B104K160 MT, AEC-Q200 compliant +-10%, 0.50 +-0.05 No Match on the six fields; mismatch on series, a grade step
MG15B104K160 MG, automotive without AEC-Q200 -0.1, 0.50 +-0.05 No Match on the letter K; mismatch on the cell, which holds the number -0.1 and not text
ST15B104K160 ST, soft termination and AEC-Q200 compliant +-10%, 0.50 +-0.20 No Mismatch on termination type and thickness band
SH15B104K160 SH, soft termination, Ag-poly +-10%, 0.50 +-0.20 No Mismatch on termination type and thickness band
0402B104J160 General purpose +-5%, 0.50 +-0.05 No Mismatch: tolerance is tighter than the incumbents
0402B104M160 General purpose +-20%, 0.50 +-0.05 No Mismatch: tolerance is looser than the incumbents

The five letter-K rows are the general purpose, MT, MG, ST and SH parts. A filter on the text “+-10%” finds four of them, because the MG row stores its tolerance as the number -0.1; the part-number letter finds all five. The 100 nF, 0402, X7R family spans 39 rows across five voltages, 6.3, 10, 16, 25 and 50 V, so a voltage typo moves you to a different row set. Our post on how to cross-reference an MLCC explains why the voltage code is the first field to check.

Why do the 11 rows split on body thickness?

Because the soft termination series print a wider band. Of the 11 rows, 8 print 0.50 plus or minus 0.05 mm for the thickness, the general purpose, MT and MG rows, and 3 print plus or minus 0.20 mm, the ST and both SH rows. The length and width bands split the same way: 1.00 plus or minus 0.05 against plus or minus 0.20.

A band of plus or minus 0.20 on a 0.50 mm nominal part means the body can be taller than the 0402 parts a stencil and a reflow profile were tuned to. That is a footprint and assembly question for your own team. Our view, labelled as ours: a sensor node on vibrating machinery puts board flex and temperature cycling on the capacitor, so whether a soft termination row is wanted is a question to put to your qualification team. We do not say any Walsin part suits mining equipment.

What does the Hong Kong shelf hold for this line?

One of the 11. As at 23 September 2026 our list holds 1,125 distinct part numbers, 864 of them MLCC lines, and the only one in this 16 V line is 0402B104K160; the other 10 are a factory order.

The same list holds 0402B104K250 and 0402B104K500, which are 25 V and 50 V parts, so they are voltage mismatches for a 16 V line, not stand-ins. The ready stock list is a dated snapshot and is never live-synced, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts. Our post on Walsin passive components in Hong Kong stock explains how to read it.

What will we not tell you about mining sensors?

Anything about suitability or approval. We searched the text of all 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, for mining, mine site, underground, solar, hydropower, marine, salt and tropic, and found 0 matches, so no datasheet we hold makes a claim about any mining use.

We make no claim that a Walsin capacitor suits a hazardous area or any mining equipment. Whether a commercial, AEC-Q200 compliant or soft termination row belongs on your board is a qualification decision that stays with you. We hold no office, entity or stock in Australia; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We give no legal, customs or conformity advice; confirm with your compliance team.

How can Venatech help an Australian buyer cross a Murata or TDK capacitor?

By showing the differences instead of hiding them, in small lots. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply.

  • Cross-reference. Paste your Murata or TDK number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch.
  • BOM check. Upload the whole sensor board to /bom/, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file.
  • Ready stock. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026.
  • Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, help with cross-referencing by hand when the tool returns no clean candidate, and a quote requested through the site. Our MLCC range lists the series.

Worked example from our own export: a Murata or TDK 100 nF, 16 V, X7R, 0402 line maps first to 0402B104K160, the stocked general purpose part, and then outward to the MT, ST and SH rows if your qualification team wants a grade or a termination step. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

The short version

For an Australian mining IoT buyer, a Murata GRM155 and a TDK C1005 100 nF, 16 V line are one line, and 11 Walsin rows answer it: 8 with a plus or minus 0.05 mm body, 3 with plus or minus 0.20 mm, and 1 on the shelf. Check the tolerance cell by letter, not by text.

Send us one decoupling line from a sensor board and we will return the Walsin candidates with every difference stated and the shelf position named. If your filter says plus or minus 10%, how many of the five rows has it missed?

What are Australia’s forecast resources and energy export earnings?

A 5 October 2026 article summarising the September 2026 Resources and Energy Quarterly reports 403 billion Australian dollars in 2025-26 and a forecast of 422 billion in 2026-27. These are the source’s figures, not ours, and we could not read the primary release.

Do a Murata GRM155R71C104KA88D and a TDK C1005X7R1C104K050BC mean the same thing?

On the retailer pages we read, both are 100 nF, 16 V, X7R, plus or minus 10%, 0402. Neither maker’s own numbering PDF was readable from here, so the trailing letters, which carry individual specification and packaging, are not decoded. Confirm against both datasheets.

How many Walsin rows answer a 100 nF, 16 V, X7R, 0402 line?

We counted 11 rows in the 24,026-row MLCC export: 3 general purpose, 3 MT, 2 MG, 2 SH and 1 ST. Five carry the tolerance letter K. Each differs from the incumbents in grade, termination, tolerance or thickness band, so read the match and mismatch column.

Why does a tolerance filter miss one of the five plus or minus 10% rows?

The MG row MG15B104K160 stores its tolerance as the number -0.1, not as the text +-10% that the other rows carry. A filter on the text finds four rows; the part-number letter K finds all five. Normalise the column before you filter.

Which of the 11 rows is on the Hong Kong shelf?

Only 0402B104K160, as at 23 September 2026. The other 10 are a factory order, and the list is a dated snapshot, never live-synced. Request a quote through the site.

Can Venatech say a Walsin capacitor suits mining equipment?

No. None of the 28 datasheets we hold, 451 pages, mentions mining, and we make no claim about hazardous areas or any use. We hold no office, entity or stock in Australia and give no compliance advice. Qualification stays with you.
