Industrial Laser Electronics for United States Makers: With IPG Photonics Reporting North America Sales Down 2 Percent in Q2 2026, 47 of 79 Walsin Inductors Rated 10 A or More Imply Over 250 W at Rated Current, Leaving 32, None on the Shelf

Industrial laser electronics for United States makers should not trust a 10 A filter on Walsin’s inductor export. We counted rows rated 10 A or more: 79, of which 47 imply over 250 W at rated current and cannot be continuous ratings. The 32 plausible rows are all AIP and VEFL parts, none publishes a saturation current, and none is on our Hong Kong shelf.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) inductor export of 5,411 rows, 5,410 of them real after the QA test row Test123999 is excluded. This post is for a design engineer or buyer at a United States maker of fibre, diode or ultrafast lasers, or of the drivers and power supplies that feed them, who wants to know what a Hong Kong source can offer for a high-current filter or output choke. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. We hold no datasheet for any inductor family, and we say so where it matters.

What did IPG Photonics report for the second quarter of 2026?

It reported growth overall and a small decline in North America. IPG Photonics reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of 278.6 million US dollars, up 11 percent from 250.7 million a year earlier, with North America sales down 2 percent year on year, and guided third-quarter revenue to between 0.265 and 0.295 billion US dollars. We read the company’s release, dated 4 August 2026, on 2 November 2026.

The release’s headline credits improving industrial demand. We name one company because the source does, and we say nothing about its suppliers. For a buyer the useful reading is mixed: demand is improving in total while the home region is soft, which is the moment buyers re-open second-source questions on supply-chain items such as inductors.

Why is a laser power stage an inductor problem?

Because a laser driver is a current source, and the output filter has to carry that current. A diode driver or a laser power supply passes the whole load current through its output choke, so rated current and saturation current are the two fields that decide whether the part survives. A switch-mode stage that feeds a laser diode stack is often a buck converter with tens of amps in the inductor.

Rated current is a thermal limit and saturation current is a magnetic limit, and a design needs both. Our post on rated current versus saturation current in chip inductors explains the difference. The catch in Walsin’s export is that the saturation current is published for only 146 of 5,410 rows, as our known-defects notes record, so a high-current search often has half the data it needs.

How many Walsin inductors are rated 10 A or more, and can you rely on them?

79 rows pass a 10 A filter, and 47 of them should not be relied on as continuous ratings. We parsed the Rated Current and DC Resistance columns for all 5,410 inductors and multiplied current squared by resistance: of the 79 rows rated 10 A or more, 47 imply between 259 W and 35.2 kW at rated current, which no chip can dissipate, and 32 imply under 2 W.

The 47 are WLFI and WQCW rows, and the 32 are AIP (20) and VEFL (12). The WQCW 0402 rows show 30 to 50 A against a DC resistance of 1.55 to 2.2 Ω, which would be 1.8 to 5.5 kW. The WLFI 0603 and 0805 rows show 15 to 50 A against 0.3 to 2.55 Ω. We have not seen this counted anywhere: a plain 10 A filter on the Walsin inductor export returns 79 rows, 59 percent of which fail a one-line power check, and every row that passes is an AIP or VEFL part with no saturation current published. Our post on chip inductor power dissipation shows the method across the whole export.

Walsin part Series Size code Inductance Rated current DC resistance Implied loss at rating In stock 23 September 2026 Match / mismatch (1 µH, 10 A or more)
AIP0630GX-1R0MPB AIP 7265 1 µH 18 A 5.3 mΩ 1.7 W No Match on value and current; saturation current not published

VEFL2C0630-1R0MPA VEFL 7165 1 µH 18 A 5.3 mΩ 1.7 W No Match on value and current; saturation not published

The size codes are the export’s own four-digit codes, not imperial case sizes, and these are large power-inductor bodies. Confirm the dimensions on the Walsin datasheet, because we hold none for these families.

What do we hold on the shelf in inductors?

Two lines, and neither is anywhere near 10 A. As at 23 September 2026 the stock list holds 2 inductor lines, WLPH252012M2R2PP rated 2.27 A and WLPH252012M4R7PP rated 1.61 A, and none of the 32 plausible 10 A rows is on the list.

So a laser maker needing a 10 A choke from us today is ordering from the factory, and we say so at the first reply. The stocked WLPH lines are useful at the bias supply and the control board, not at the output stage. The shelf is a dated snapshot, and the ready stock page shows what is held now.

We hold no datasheet for the AIP, VEFL, WLFI, WQCW or WLPH families. Say so to your supplier, ask for the Walsin documents for the exact part number, and treat every rating in the export as a claim to confirm.

Why buyers in the United States choose Venatech

Because we would rather tell you that a rating looks wrong than let you design around it. A United States laser maker who sends a 10 A inductor request gets the 32 rows that pass a power check, the 47 that do not, and a plain statement that no saturation current is published.

  • We are an authorised Walsin Technology distributor in Hong Kong. Confirm it with Walsin. Walsin is our only authorised line; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply.
  • We show the mismatches as well as the matches. VenaMatch decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts and states every difference from your original, field by field. That honesty is the product.
  • We cover the inductor families, and we check the numbers. The Walsin inductor export we hold runs to 5,410 real part numbers across 47 series, and we run a dissipation check on a rated-current cell before we ever quote it as a match.
  • Small lots are welcome. We are Hong Kong-based and a prototype run or a pilot build is a normal request, not an exception.
  • We hold documents, and we say which. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and send the one for your part number on request. Where a document is not in the set we hold, we say so in plain words.
  • One route to a quote. Paste a list into the free cross-reference tool, check it on /bom/, look at the dated ready stock list, and request a quote through the site.

How can Venatech help a United States industrial laser maker?

By crossing the part you have already chosen, stating the differences, and telling you what is missing. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line, and the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.

  • Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
  • BOM check. Upload a bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
  • Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
  • Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Our address is Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.

A worked example from our own export: a 1 µH, 18 A output choke maps to AIP0630GX-1R0MPB or VEFL2C0630-1R0MPA, both factory orders with no published saturation current, and the stocked WLPH252012M2R2PP is a 2.27 A mismatch. Our inductor range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

The short version

IPG Photonics reported Q2 2026 North America sales down 2 percent in a release dated 4 August 2026. A 10 A filter on Walsin’s inductor export returns 79 rows, 47 of which imply over 250 W at rated current and 32 of which pass, all AIP or VEFL with no saturation current, and none on our shelf.

Send us the output choke from one laser driver and we will return the Walsin candidates with the differences stated. When a datasheet says 50 A on a 0603 inductor, do you believe the number or check the loss?
