Water network telemetry electronics for Samoa often need a few microhenry of inductance on a sensor supply. We parsed the Walsin Technology (Walsin) WLFW and WFI series, 197 rows: all 56 WFI 0805 rows print a minimum Q of 0 where their WLFW twins print 15 to 20, 26 WFI rows with a K code print 5%, and none is on our Hong Kong shelf.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin inductor export of 5,410 real rows (the 5,411th is a test row we exclude) and a ready-stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a design or procurement engineer at a Samoan utility contractor, water-services supplier or instrumentation workshop who has a small inductor on a bill of materials and wants a second source in small lots from Hong Kong. Every Walsin part number is real, every count is ours, and the one news-type statement names its source and the day we fetched it, 2 November 2026.
What does the Samoa water masterplan mean for a telemetry electronics buyer?
It signals planned investment in a water sector that needs to be measured. The Asian Development Bank lists the Samoa Water Supply and Investment Masterplan 2025 to 2035, developed by the Samoa Water Authority with ADB and the Ireland Trust Fund for Building Climate Change and Disaster Resilience in Small Island Developing States, as a 22-page strategic guide for investments in infrastructure and support activities across the water sector, published in February 2026.
The page we fetched on 2 November 2026 is a summary entry; it gives no investment figure, metering plan or non-revenue-water number, and it names no component or supplier, so we draw no link between it and any part number. Our view, labelled as ours: a utility that plans investment will need pump and level controllers and telemetry boards, and an inductor on a sensor supply is one of the parts that has to be sourced twice. We have no relationship with the Samoa Water Authority or ADB.
What are the WLFW and WFI series?
One family of microhenry inductors under two prefixes. We parsed the series and found 197 rows: 88 with the WLFW prefix and 109 with WFI, in 2012 and 2520 bodies, from 0.047 to 27 microhenry, with rated current from 0.12 A to 2 A and no saturation current published for any of them.
Of the 197, 92 are 2012 (0805) and 105 are 2520 (1008). They are not power inductors in the sense of a buck converter, since the highest rated current is 2 A and the 4.7 microhenry rows rate 280 mA to 400 mA. Our post on rated current against saturation current in chip inductors explains why that matters, and Walsin inductor series, how to tell them apart explains the prefixes.
Why do the WFI 0805 rows print a minimum Q of 0?
Because the field is empty and the export fills it with zero. All 56 WFI rows in the 2012 body print a Q minimum of 0, while 36 WLFW rows in the same body with the same inductance and tolerance print 15, 18, 19 or 20; the 2520 WFI rows print real values such as 31, 34 and 50.
A filter for Q of 15 or more therefore drops every WFI 0805 row, and a sort by Q ranks them last, although we cannot say whether the real Q is lower or merely unpublished. Whether a WFI 0805 part has the same Q as its WLFW twin is a question the export cannot answer and we hold no datasheet to resolve it. Treat Q as unresolved for any WFI 0805 code until Walsin confirms it.
Why do 26 WFI rows print 5% when their code letter means 10%?
Because the tolerance column disagrees with the code. Of the 54 WFI rows whose part number ends in the letter K, 28 print plus or minus 10% and 26 print plus or minus 5%, and all 26 are in the 2520 body; the J-code rows all print 5%.
A buyer who filters on the tolerance column for 10% misses 26 rows, and one who filters for 5% picks up 26 K-code rows that the part number says are 10%. We have not seen this counted anywhere, and we do not know which of the code and the column is right. Our post on inductor tolerance codes, absolute against percentage covers the wider pattern.
How do the candidates compare with a 4.7 microhenry, 10%, 0805 line?
One matches, and its twin differs in Q. The table sets five rows against a 4.7 microhenry, plus or minus 10%, 0805 line.
| Walsin part | Series, thickness | Tolerance, Q min, SRF, rated current as exported | On shelf 23 Sep 2026 | Match / mismatch against a 4.7 microhenry, 10%, 0805 line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
WLFW2012Z0K4R7PB |
WLFW 2012, 1.6 mm | 10%, Q 20, SRF 50, 280 mA | No | Match on every field |
WFI2012FS4R7K |
WFI 2012, 1.6 mm | 10%, Q 0, SRF 50, 280 mA | No | Match on electrical fields; mismatch on Q, printed as 0 |
WFI2012FS4R7J |
WFI 2012, 1.6 mm | 5%, Q 0, SRF 50, 280 mA | No | Mismatch: tolerance, 5% is tighter, and Q printed as 0 |
WLFW2520Z0K4R7PB |
WLFW 2520, 1.83 mm | 10%, Q 31, SRF 90, 400 mA | No | Mismatch: case, 2520 against 2012, and 0.23 mm taller |
WFI2520FS4R7K |
WFI 2520, 1.83 mm | printed 5% with a K code, Q 31, SRF 90, 400 mA | No | Mismatch: case and a tolerance that disagrees with its own code |
The 2520 rows carry a higher current and a higher Q, at a larger footprint; whether that trade is worth a board change is a design decision that stays with you.
What does the Hong Kong shelf hold, and what will we not tell you?
None of the 197. As at 23 September 2026 our list holds 1,125 distinct part numbers, 2 of them inductors, WLPH252012M2R2PP and WLPH252012M4R7PP, both 2520 power inductors; we hold no datasheet for any Walsin inductor, and we searched all 28 sheets we hold for water, sewer, pump and pipe and found only a flux-washing note.
A WLFW or WFI inductor is therefore a factory order, requested through the site, and we cannot give a Q, saturation or temperature range for any of the 197 rows beyond what the export prints. The ready stock list is a dated snapshot, never live-synced, and we quote part-number counts, never piece counts. Our inductor range lists the families. We hold no office, entity or stock in Samoa; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We give no legal, customs or conformity advice; confirm with your compliance team.
Why do buyers in Samoa choose Venatech?
Because we show a Samoan buyer the mismatches as well as the matches, and we can prove the rest: 28 Walsin datasheets held, 451 pages, and one named authorised line. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong; Walsin is our only authorised line, and Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We confirm nothing we cannot show.
Samoan utilities and contractors often work with small batches and long distances, and a small lot with an honest data note is what we offer. For a sensor-supply inductor:
- We find the zero. In the WFI 0805 rows we found a Q of 0 on all 56, and we tell you before your filter silently drops them.
-
We flag the code that disagrees with its column. Twenty-six K-code rows print 5%, and we mark them rather than choose for you.
-
Hong Kong-based service, small lots welcome. A prototype or pilot quantity is a normal order for us, requested through the site.
- Breadth you can count. Our Walsin extracts (00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx, Walsin_Inductor_ALL.xlsx, Walsin_MOV_ALL.xlsx, Walsin_DiscCap_ALL.xlsx, Walsin_Antenna_ALL.xlsx and the chip-resistor, thin-film and RF files) hold 359,135 distinct part numbers, and the VenaMatch tool covers 800,000+ crossable parts.
- Honest cross-referencing. Every candidate is shown with each field marked match or mismatch, so you see the gap before you lay out a board.
- Checkable credentials. We are an authorised Walsin Technology distributor in Hong Kong, which you can confirm with Walsin. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and send the relevant one on request.
How can Venatech help a Samoan buyer with a telemetry-board inductor line?
By showing the differences instead of hiding them, across 800,000+ crossable parts, in small lots. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply.
- Cross-reference. Paste your incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch.
- BOM check. Upload the whole bill of materials to /bom/, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file.
- Ready stock. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, not live.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, help with cross-referencing by hand when the tool returns no clean candidate, and a quote requested through the site.
Worked example from our own export: a 4.7 microhenry, plus or minus 10%, 0805 inductor maps to WLFW2012Z0K4R7PB where Q is published, to WFI2012FS4R7K if you accept an unpublished Q, and to nothing on the shelf. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
The short version
For a Samoan water-telemetry buyer, Walsin’s WLFW and WFI series is 197 rows; all 56 WFI 0805 rows print a minimum Q of 0, 26 K-code WFI rows print 5%, and none of the 197 is on the Hong Kong shelf.
Paste one sensor-supply inductor into the free cross-reference tool, or upload the telemetry board to /bom/, and we will return the Walsin candidates with every difference stated and the stock position named. If your filter says Q of 15 or more, how many parts has it quietly thrown away?

Frequently asked questions
What is the Samoa Water Supply and Investment Masterplan?
The Asian Development Bank lists it as a 22-page strategic guide, developed by the Samoa Water Authority with ADB and the Ireland Trust Fund, for investments across Samoa’s water sector, published in February 2026. The catalogue entry gives no figures.
How many Walsin WLFW and WFI inductors are there?
We counted 197 rows: 88 WLFW and 109 WFI, in 2012 and 2520 bodies from 0.047 to 27 microhenry, with rated current from 0.12 A to 2 A. No saturation current is published for any of them.
Why do the WFI 0805 inductors show a Q of 0?
All 56 WFI rows in the 2012 body print a minimum Q of 0, where 36 WLFW twins print 15 to 20. We believe the field is unpublished, not zero, but we hold no datasheet to confirm it. Ask Walsin through us.
Why do some WFI rows with a K code print 5%?
Of 54 WFI rows ending in K, 28 print plus or minus 10% and 26 print 5%, all in the 2520 body. We do not know whether the code or the column is right, so confirm the tolerance for the code you order.
Is a WLFW or WFI inductor on the Hong Kong shelf?
No. As at 23 September 2026 our list holds 2 inductors, both 2520 power parts, and none of the 197 rows. Each candidate is a quote requested through the site. The list is a dated snapshot and is never live-synced.
Does Venatech have an office in Samoa?
No. We hold no office, entity or stock in Samoa. Venatech Limited is based in Hong Kong with locations in Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, and Chengdu in preparation. We serve Samoan buyers from Hong Kong in small lots.
