Product change notification for passive components is a document, not a sentence, and we checked whether we hold one. We re-searched all 451 pages of our 28 Walsin datasheets for “notification,” “PCN,” “revision” and four related terms. Every one returns zero. For a Canadian buyer running a ten-year programme, that gap is the finding.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 Walsin Technology (Walsin) datasheets totalling 451 pages, and we re-extracted every page for this post rather than trust an earlier pass. This is written for a buyer in Canada whose programme runs ten years and whose change-control clause has a blank where a supplier’s notification commitment should sit. Every part number below is real.
What does Walsin’s own catalogue say about changing or withdrawing a product?
It reserves the right, once, in general terms. We read page 3 of the 65-page 00_MLCC_Full_Catalogue.pdf, directly beneath the contents list:
The specifications are subject to change or our products in it may be discontinued without advance notice. Please check with our sales representatives or product engineers before ordering.
We hold no affected-part list for any manufacturer, Walsin included, and we will not state or imply that a specific part, series or family is affected by that sentence — it is a general reservation of right printed once in a 65-page catalogue, not a statement about any part number. The same page tells the reader the catalogue “has only typical specifications” and to transact the approval sheet instead. That is Walsin naming its own contractual document; it does not create a notification commitment.
How many of our 28 documents carry a reservation-of-change notice, and where does it stop?
Twenty-six of 28. We checked page one of every document we hold for the sentence “Contents in this sheet are subject to change without prior notice.” Twenty-six carry it — every MLCC series sheet and both chip resistor sheets. The two that do not are the MLCC Application Guide and the Full MLCC Catalogue itself, which carry the longer discontinuation sentence above instead. We have not seen this split counted before: every individual series document reserves the right to change without notice, and the two overview documents reserve it even more broadly, which means there is no document in our library, at any level, that commits to telling us first.
| Document | Covers | Reservation on page 1 | Numbered revision | Match / mismatch vs “pinnable in a change-control clause” |
|---|---|---|---|---|
00_MLCC_Full_Catalogue.pdf |
All 16 exported MLCC series | Discontinuation clause, page 3 | No | Mismatch — no number, and the clause covers 16 series at once |
01_General_Purpose.pdf |
0603B101J500 and 8,467 General Purpose rows |
“subject to change without prior notice” | No — month only | Mismatch — a month is not a citable revision |
11_Automotive_MT.pdf |
MT18B104K100 and the AEC-Q200 MT line |
Same clause | No — month only | Mismatch — same gap on the automotive-grade line |
Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf |
WR12X4701FTL and 24,737 non-automotive WR rows |
Same clause | Yes — ASC_WR_V24, SEP 2016 |
Match on citability; mismatch on currency — the number is ten years old |
Walsin_MR_Automotive_Thick_Film_Chip_Resistor.pdf |
MR06X1002FTL and the MR automotive line |
Same clause | Yes — ASC_MR_V13, March 2024 |
Match — the only document in our library a clause could cite with confidence |
Only two of the 28 give a reader a number to pin against a change-control clause. The other 26, including both General Purpose and Automotive MT, give a reservation and a month. We have not seen this counted anywhere.
Does any Walsin document we hold contain a revision history?
No, and the absence is total. We searched all 451 pages again for “revision,” “revised,” “version,” “amend,” “change control” and “traceability.” Every one of those six terms returns zero occurrences across the library. Not one of the 28 documents carries a table listing what changed, when, or which clause it touched.
| What a ten-year change-control clause asks for | Occurrences across 451 pages |
|---|---|
| “revision” / “revised” / “version” | 0 |
| “notification” / “notify” | 0 |
| “PCN” / “ECN” / “DCN” as standalone terms | 0 |
| “change control” | 0 |
| “lifecycle” / “last time buy” | 0 |
| “discontinu-” (any form) | 1, in the catalogue’s own reservation above |
| A numbered document revision | 2 documents of 28 |
| A revision history table | 0 documents of 28 |
“PCN policy” is one of eighteen document types that appear nowhere in our 451 pages, alongside REACH, SVHC, PFAS, ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and a Declaration of Conformity. We phrase every one of those as not in the documents we hold, never as a statement about what Walsin does or does not actually have internally.
Do we hold an affected-part list for any manufacturer?
No — not for Walsin and not for any manufacturer our cross-reference tool decodes. We checked the export schemas directly: across all 203 files there is no column for lifecycle, RoHS, REACH, lead time or qualification status anywhere. The chip resistor schema is ten columns — Part Number, Series Group, Series, Size, Resistance, Tolerance, TCR, Rated Power, Packaging, Termination — and none is a status field. We will not assert that WR12F1R00FTL FN or any other part is affected, discontinued or scheduled to stop, because asserting that from a blank column would be worse than leaving the column blank.
What should a Canadian ten-year programme’s change-control clause actually require?
Four things, in order, because the first is usually the one missing. A board that has to be rebuilt in 2036 needs the document identity pinned before it needs a notice period, since a notice period attached to an unpinned document refers to nothing.
- Pin the governing document by filename and revision. Where the footer gives only a month — 26 of our 28 documents — record the month and the date you received the file, and say in the clause that this is what was available.
- Name the change trigger, not just a notice window. Dimensional change, termination finish, dielectric formulation, factory — and any change that invalidates the qualification already run.
- Require an affected-part list to accompany any notice. Our position is that we hold none today and will not pretend to; a notice without one is an announcement, not an action.
- Hold a buffer behind it. Stock you can see is the one clause that works without the manufacturer’s cooperation. Ready stock is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026, covering 1,125 part numbers — not a live feed.
What can a Canadian buyer evidence from us today?
A specific, checkable list. Twenty-eight Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, sent against your part number rather than described in a brochure. Lot and date-code traceability. A certificate of conformity per shipment on request. Original sealed Walsin packaging. Authorised Walsin Technology distributor status in Hong Kong, confirmable with Walsin directly. UL file E182369 on the safety capacitor line, searchable in UL’s own public database.
The fastest practical step is to cross the whole bill of materials in one pass rather than chase documents line by line. Paste up to 500 part numbers or drop your Excel or CSV into the free cross-reference tool. It decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers against 800,000+ crossable Walsin part numbers, returns candidates field by field, and states every difference from your original. For what we hold and do not hold on the certificate side, see AVL submission documentation: every document we hold, and for the one RoHS exemption printed anywhere in our library, a datasheet in 28 that names it. The resistor range is on the Walsin chip resistor page.
The short version
Walsin’s full catalogue reserves, once, the right to change specifications or discontinue products without advance notice — a general statement, not a claim about any part number, and we hold no affected-part list for any manufacturer to check it against. Across 451 pages, “revision,” “notification,” “change control” and “lifecycle” each return zero occurrences on this re-check. Twenty-six of our 28 documents carry a page-one reservation of change and only two carry a number anyone could cite in a clause. On a Canadian ten-year programme, the missing document is the largest uncontrolled line on the bill of materials, and the first clause to write is the one that pins what we can already give you.
Send us your Canadian programme’s bill of materials and we will return the governing Walsin document and its revision footer for every line we can match, a plain blank where we cannot, and what was physically in Hong Kong on 23 September 2026. Then tell us what your change-control clause still demands that we cannot evidence — that is the question we take to Walsin next, and your enquiry is what gets it asked.

Does Walsin publish a product change notification policy?
Not in the documents we hold. We re-searched all 451 pages of our 28 Walsin datasheets for “PCN,” “notification,” “notify,” “change control” and “revision.” Every one returns zero occurrences. A PCN policy is one of eighteen document types absent from our library, and a written arrangement is on our request list to Walsin.
What does Walsin’s catalogue actually say about discontinuing a product?
Page 3 of the 65-page full MLCC catalogue states that specifications are subject to change or products may be discontinued without advance notice, and tells the reader to check with sales or product engineers first. That is a general reservation of right. We hold no list naming any affected part number and do not infer one from it.
How many of Venatech’s 28 Walsin documents carry a numbered revision?
Two. The WR general purpose chip resistor sheet at ASC_WR_V24, September 2016, and the MR automotive chip resistor sheet at ASC_MR_V13, March 2024. The other 26, including General Purpose and Automotive MT, give a document name and a month with no number.
Is there a lifecycle or status column in any Walsin export we hold?
No. We checked every column header across all 203 export files. There is no lifecycle, status, RoHS, REACH or qualification column anywhere. The chip resistor schema is ten columns wide and none is a status field.
Does Venatech hold an affected-part list for any manufacturer?
No. Not for Walsin and not for any manufacturer our cross-reference tool decodes. We will not assert that a specific part, series or family is discontinued, obsolete or constrained, because we hold no document that would support saying so.
What should a Canadian ten-year programme’s change-control clause require?
Pin the governing document by filename and revision; define the change triggers rather than only a notice window; require an affected-part list to accompany any notice; and hold a buffer, because stock is the clause that works without the manufacturer’s cooperation. Our ready-stock page is a dated snapshot as at 23 September 2026.
