MLCC Board Bend Test for Germany: 25 of 26 Walsin Datasheets State a Depth, Only 23 State a Hold Time

The MLCC board bend test is not one test. We read all 26 Walsin MLCC datasheets for German board-flex reviews: 25 state a deflection depth, 23 state a hold time, and the depth is 1, 2, 3 or 5 mm depending on the sheet. 19,962 of the 24,026 export rows sit under a 1 mm sheet.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds 28 datasheets from Walsin Technology (Walsin), 451 pages, and the parametric export behind them. This post is written from the bending-test row of the 26 MLCC PDFs in _Walsin_Datasheets/MLCC/ (431 pages), read as printed text, and from the 24,026 rows of 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx. Every part number is real. We already published the series-level story in flex cracking and board bend; this post is the coverage audit behind it: who states what, and how much of the catalogue each statement reaches.

How many of Walsin’s 26 MLCC datasheets state a board bend depth and a hold time?

25 state a depth and 23 state a hold time. We opened each PDF and read the row called Bending Test, Board Flex or Resistance to Flexure of Substrate. Only the 12-page application guide has no such row. The S2 and S3 safety sheets give depths but no hold time. Across the 25 sheets the printed depths are 1, 2, 3 and 5 mm, and the printed hold strings are 5±1 sec (17 sheets), 60±1 sec (5), 30 s and 5 s (both on one sheet).

The row total is 26 sheets and 24,026 export rows. We have not seen this counted anywhere: nobody else publishes how many of Walsin’s own sheets state a hold time, and 3 of 26 do not.

Which series are tested at which depth, and how many export rows sit under each?

83.1 percent of the export sits under a 1 mm sheet. We mapped each of the 16 series in the export to its datasheet and summed the rows. 1 mm covers 19,962 of 24,026 rows. MT at 3 mm (2 mm for X7R) covers 2,176. The 5 mm sheets cover 1,707: SH 1,524, SG 65 and ST 118. FT adds 8 and S2 adds 173. The deeper tests reach 7.1 percent of the catalogue.

The sheets themselves make the split clear. 01_General_Purpose.pdf and eleven other sheets print “the deflection becomes 1 mm and then the pressure shall be maintained for 5±1 sec”. 19_Soft_Term_SH.pdf and 20_Soft_Term_SG.pdf print the same sentence with 5 mm. The AEC-Q200 sheets (11_Automotive_MT.pdf, 12_Soft_Term_Automotive_ST.pdf, 09_Microwave_Automotive_RT.pdf) label their row Board Flex with the reference AEC-Q200-005, and hold for 60±1 sec. Walsin’s own links: General Purpose, SH, MT.

Six sheets have no export row at all: RH, RT, VT, S3, Mega Cap M and Mega Cap V. A seventh, 05_Surface_Coating_Type.pdf, describes a termination code, not a series. For those, the bend figure exists on paper and the cross-reference tool cannot offer the part. No export column carries a bend depth: we checked the headers of all 203 export files and found none.

Where do the datasheets disagree with themselves on bend?

In four places we can point to. The VT sheet’s feature list and its mounting flowchart say 5 mm; its AEC-Q200-005 Board Flex row says 3 mm. The MT sheet gives two depths in one clause. The catalogue and the ST sheet print different hold times for the same series. One export row sits under a 1 mm series name with a 5 mm part prefix.

Where What is printed Match / mismatch
13_Soft_Term_Automotive_VT_VW80808.pdf, features and flowchart “5mm bending strength guaranteed”; figure captioned “Bending Test (5 mm)” Mismatch against the table row

11_Automotive_MT.pdf, Board Flex row 18 “3mm (2mm for X7R)” Match within the sheet, but one clause carries two depths
00_MLCC_Full_Catalogue.pdf, bending row SH, SG, ST: 5 mm, 5±1 sec; footnote: ST follows AEC-Q200-005 Mismatch with the ST sheet’s 60±1 sec unless the footnote governs

What does the 23 September 2026 stock snapshot hold at each bend depth?

Almost all of it is 1 mm. The Hong Kong ready-stock snapshot as at 23 September 2026 lists 864 MLCC part numbers. We matched them to the export: 762 match. 732 sit in series tested at 1 mm and 30 in SH at 5 mm. None sits in MT, MG, ST or SG. This is a dated snapshot and not a live feed; part-number counts, never piece counts.

Snapshot part numbers matched Series Bend depth Match / mismatch against a 5 mm requirement
490 General Purpose 1 mm Mismatch
149 Middle to High Voltage 1 mm Mismatch
66 Microwave RF 1 mm Mismatch
30 SH, silver-polymer 5 mm Match
27 High Q, Big Sizes, HT, UF (22 + 2 + 2 + 1) 1 mm Mismatch

A buyer with a 5 mm requirement should check ready stock for the SH line first and expect the answer to be narrow. The method for finding a second source for a soft-termination part is in soft termination MLCC SH, SG, ST and VT; the full range sits on the MLCC page.

What should a German board-flex review ask for before accepting a bend figure?

Four things, each tied to a count above. A German reviewer reading a datasheet for a depanelled or screw-mounted board should ask for the depth, the hold time, the test-board thickness and the sheet that governs the exact part number. Of 26 sheets, 25 give the first, 23 give the second and 1 gives the third.

  1. The depth, per exact part number. Four depths exist across the sheets; your series name decides which.
  2. The hold time. The AEC-Q200 sheets hold 12 times longer than the commercial ones. A 1 mm pass at 5±1 sec is not a 3 mm pass at 60±1 sec.
  3. The test board. Only the FT sheet states its boards (100×40×1.0 mm and 100×40×0.8 mm). The other 24 sheets with a bend row do not.
  4. Which sheet governs. When series name and prefix disagree, ask in writing.

The two resistor sheets we hold use a different test: Walsin_MR_Automotive_Thick_Film_Chip_Resistor.pdf prints bending once to 2 mm for 10 sec and Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf 3 mm for 10 sec, 5 mm for WR04, on a 90 mm FR4 board. We will not tell you a capacitor and a resistor pass the same bend. We will show you where the sheets differ.

The short version

We counted 26 sheets: 25 state a bend depth, 23 a hold time, 4 depths (1, 2, 3, 5 mm) and 4 hold strings. 19,962 of 24,026 export rows (83.1%) sit under a 1 mm sheet; 1,707 under 5 mm; MT’s 2,176 under 3 mm, 2 mm for X7R. S2 and S3 state no hold time. VT states 5 mm in its features and 3 mm in its table. In the snapshot of 23 September 2026, 732 of 762 matched MLCC part numbers are 1 mm parts and none is MT, MG, ST or SG. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, sent on request. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

Send us the part numbers on your German bill of materials with the bend depth you need. We will tell you which sheet governs each one and which rows we cannot confirm. How many Walsin MLCC datasheets state a board bend depth?

25 of 26. We read every PDF; only the 12-page application guide has no bending row. The printed depths are 1, 2, 3 and 5 mm. Twelve sheets print 1 mm with a hold of 5±1 sec, and the S2 and S3 safety sheets print 1 mm for standard and 3 mm for soft termination with no hold time.

What hold time does Walsin use in the MLCC bend test?

Two main ones: 5±1 sec on 17 sheets and 60±1 sec on 5. The 60-second sheets are the AEC-Q200 ones (MT, ST, VT, RT and S2-H), which reference AEC-Q200-005. The FT sheet prints 30 s and 5 s. The S2 and S3 sheets and the application guide print none.

Which Walsin series is tested to 5 mm?

SH, SG, ST, RT, Mega Cap M and Mega Cap V print 5 mm. In the export only SH (1,524 rows), SG (65) and ST (118) have rows, 1,707 together or 7.1 percent of 24,026. VT is the exception: its features say 5 mm and its table says 3 mm.

Does the Walsin export carry a bend depth?

No. We checked the column headers of all 203 export files. Bend depth exists only in the datasheets, so a parametric filter cannot select on it. You have to map the series to the sheet, which this post does for the 16 series that have rows.

Is MG a better bend part than General Purpose?

On the sheet, no. 14_MG_Series_High_Reliability.pdf prints 1 mm and 5±1 sec, the same as General Purpose. MG is Walsin’s high-reliability series without an AEC-Q200 claim, 788 rows, and reliability grade and bend depth are separate properties.

Can I rely on the VT bend figure for a German automotive design?

Not until Walsin confirms it. The VT sheet states 5 mm in its feature list and flowchart and 3 mm in the Board Flex row. The series has a datasheet and no export rows, so the cross-reference tool cannot offer it. Confirm against the datasheet and qualify in your own circuit.
