Mining electronics in Peru often use the largest MLCC cases, and two-thirds of them have a smaller option. Of 491 Walsin 1825, 2220 and 2225 capacitors, 326 have a smaller-case twin with the same dielectric, capacitance, tolerance and voltage, and 81 of the 326 have a twin on our 23 September 2026 Hong Kong stock list.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC export of 24,026 rows, 23,601 of them distinct part numbers, and a Hong Kong ready-stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a design engineer or buyer at a mining equipment, drive or instrumentation maker in Peru who has a big-case ceramic capacitor on the bill of materials and wants to know what a Hong Kong source can offer in a smaller footprint. Every part number below is real and every count is ours.
What is happening to mining investment in Peru in 2026?
It is rising fast, and the infrastructure line is rising fastest. Industrial Info Resources, citing Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported on 30 June 2026 that mining investment from January to April 2026 was about 2.05 billion US dollars, up 43.5% on the same four months of 2025. We read the article on 23 October 2026.
The same report puts infrastructure investment up 86.1% to 564 million US dollars, and development and preparation investment up from 227 million to 390 million. It says the outgoing government expected about 6.3 billion US dollars of mining investment for 2026, against 6.23 billion in 2025, which it calls the highest in a decade. A second report from the same publisher on 26 August 2026 says the government expects to authorise 240 mining projects in 2026 and that six power generation projects, adding about 1,096 MW, are expected to start operating by July 2027.
Our view, labelled as ours: new power, conveyors, drives and monitoring equipment mean more power electronics, and power electronics is where the largest MLCC cases are used. That is a reading of the shelf and not a claim about any mine.
Why would a Peruvian mining electronics buyer look at a smaller case?
Because a 2220 capacitor is large. From the export’s length and width fields, a 2220 body is 5.7 by 5.0 mm, 28.5 square millimetres, against 2.5 square millimetres for an 0805: 11.4 times the board area. A larger ceramic body also spans more board.
Why that matters is our view, not a Walsin statement. A ceramic body bonded to a board at two ends is exposed to board bending, and the longer the body the more it sees. Equipment that is moved, shaken or serviced in the field flexes its boards. Walsin’s soft-termination sheet says its polymer layer is designed to absorb mechanical stress from board handling in the SMT line, and our post on flex cracking and soft termination covers that route. A smaller case is the other route, and it works only if a part with the same values exists.
How many big-case Walsin capacitors have a smaller-case twin?
326 of 491. We parsed all 491 distinct part numbers in the Walsin big-sizes series and matched each to the General Purpose and Middle to High Voltage series on dielectric, capacitance, tolerance code and rated voltage, with a smaller length-times-width footprint: 326 have a twin, 81 have a twin that is on the shelf, and 165 have none. We have not seen this counted anywhere.
| Big-case size | Parts in the series | With a smaller-case twin | With a twin on the shelf |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1825 | 115 | 81 | 12 |
| 2220 | 253 | 169 | 54 |
| 2225 | 123 | 76 | 15 |
| Total | 491 | 326 | 81 |
The smallest twin is most often an 1812 (80 parts), then 1206 (66), 1808 (55), 1210 (51), 0805 (51), 0603 (16) and 0402 (7). The median footprint reduction, to the smallest twin, is 3.9 times. The 165 without a twin are concentrated in the highest capacitance and highest voltage cells: 84 of them are 2220 parts, such as 10 µF at 100 V, and 47 are 2225.

What changes when a 2220 part becomes an 1812 or an 0805?
Five fields: size, pad, height, series and electrical behaviour under bias. In our table the three 1812 twins are 2.50 mm tall in the export against 2.00 mm for the big-case parts they match, so a smaller footprint does not mean a lower body. Only the 0805 and 1206 twins are lower.
The pad changes, so the layout changes. Capacitance under DC bias also changes with case and dielectric thickness, and the export carries no bias curve, as our DC-bias post explains. Voltage margin is what the voltage field tells you and no more. Both datasheets are the authority, and the decision to qualify belongs to you. We will not tell you a twin is the same part. We will show you where it differs.
We also give no customs or import advice for Peru. Take that question to your compliance team.
What do we hold in documents for mining equipment?
Datasheets for the big-case series and no mining claim. We opened all 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and searched them for the words mining, mine, hazardous, explosion, ATEX and intrinsic: each returns 0 files. The large-size approval sheet, 10 pages dated April 2026, covers 1825, 2220 and 2225 in NP0 and X7R.
That is a statement about the documents, not about the parts. We make no claim that any Walsin part suits a hazardous area, a mine or an underground environment, and an area approval belongs to your assembly. Venatech holds neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949, and we say so plainly. Check us: UL file E182369 is in UL’s public database for the Walsin safety series, and we send datasheets on request.
The stock list is a dated snapshot of 23 September 2026 and moves. We quote part-number counts, never piece counts, and we guarantee no price, lead time or stock.
How can Venatech help a Peru mining electronics buyer?
By crossing the big-case part you already use, stating each difference, and telling you what is missing. Venatech Limited is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong. Walsin is our only authorised line; the other lines we supply are Stackpole and Viking.
- Cross-reference. Paste the incumbent number into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read each Walsin candidate with match and mismatch stated field by field.
- BOM check. Upload a bill of materials to /bom/ and have each line checked against the same engine.
- Ready stock. The ready stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026, never live-synced.
- Service. Hong Kong-based, small lots, cross-referencing help, and a quote requested through the site. Unit 207, 2/F, Sun Ling Plaza, 30 On Kui Street, Fanling, N.T., Hong Kong, telephone (852) 2628 4777.
A worked example from our own export: a 470 nF, 100 V, X7R, ±10% capacitor in 2220 is 2220B474K101, on our shelf, and it has 0805B474K101 as a smaller twin, also on the shelf. Our MLCC range lists the families. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
The short version
Peru’s mining investment rose 43.5% in the first four months of 2026, per Industrial Info Resources on 30 June 2026. Of 491 Walsin big-case capacitors, 326 have a smaller-case twin and 81 have a twin on the shelf. The 165 without are the highest-capacitance cells, and the 1812 twins are taller than the parts they match.
Send us one 2220 or 2225 capacitor from a Peruvian drive, supply or monitor board and we will return the smaller-case Walsin options with every difference stated. If the biggest part on your board is also its most exposed, why is it still the biggest?

Frequently asked questions
How much did mining investment in Peru grow in 2026?
Industrial Info Resources, citing Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported on 30 June 2026 that January to April 2026 investment was about 2.05 billion US dollars, up 43.5% on the same four months of 2025. It is one trade report, so check the ministry’s own figures.
How many big-case Walsin capacitors have a smaller-case twin?
326 of 491. We matched dielectric, capacitance, tolerance code and rated voltage against the General Purpose and Middle to High Voltage series, with a smaller footprint. 81 of the 326 have a twin on the 23 September 2026 stock list, and 165 of the 491 have none.
Is a smaller-case twin a drop-in replacement?
No. The pad changes, and the body can be taller: the three 1812 twins in our table are 2.50 mm against 2.00 mm. Capacitance under bias also differs and the export carries no bias curve. Compare both datasheets field by field and qualify in your own circuit.
Do Walsin datasheets say anything about mining?
No. We searched all 28 datasheets, 451 pages, for mining, mine, hazardous, explosion, ATEX and intrinsic, and each returns 0 files. We make no claim that a part suits a hazardous area, and area approval belongs to your assembly.
Do you give customs or import advice for Peru?
No. We give no customs, tax or import advice and we state no country of origin for any part, because none of the documents we hold names a manufacturing site. Ask your compliance team. We can provide lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request.
How do I send you a capacitor to cross?
Paste the part number into the free cross-reference tool, upload a bill of materials to the BOM page, or request a quote through the site. We return Walsin candidates with each match and mismatch stated, and we say plainly where there is none.
