A United Kingdom satellite electronics buyer who tunes an RF match with sub-picofarad capacitors is buying tolerance, not just capacitance. Of 74 stocked Walsin microwave and high-Q lines with a picofarad tolerance, 59 have a tighter-tolerance sibling in the export, and 13 of those 59 have one that is also on our shelf.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC parametric export: 24,026 rows, 23,601 distinct part numbers. This post is for a purchasing or design engineer at a United Kingdom space or satellite electronics company, a payload, ground terminal or small-satellite builder, who must name a second source for an RF capacitor without reopening the match network. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a development, it names the source, its date and the day we fetched it (23 October 2026).
What did the UK Space Strategy of September 2026 commit to?
A larger, satellite-led programme. Defence trade press reported on 8 September 2026 that the UK Government’s refreshed Space Strategy plans 7.8 billion pounds of investment through 2030, of which 2.8 billion pounds goes to satellite connectivity including the Skynet system, and 30 million pounds to the SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland. The industry body techUK reported on 9 September 2026 that the strategy names satellite communications, space domain awareness, in-orbit servicing and manufacturing, and access to space as the sectors to develop faster.
A second trade report, from World Teleport, gives the same 7.8 billion pound headline and says the SaxaVord sum is subject to due diligence. None of the pages we read mentions capacitors, shortages or any named component supplier, and we draw no conclusion about which parts any United Kingdom company buys. We could not reach the strategy document itself, so every figure here is attributed to the reports.
| Point | What the source says | Source date | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Headline investment | 7.8 billion pounds through 2030 | The Defense Post, 8 September 2026 | Match for context only |
| Satellite connectivity | 2.8 billion pounds, including Skynet | The Defense Post, 8 September 2026 | Mismatch with any component claim: no part is named |
| SaxaVord Spaceport, Shetland | 30 million pounds, subject to due diligence | The Defense Post, 8 September 2026; World Teleport | Match for context only |
| Priority sectors | Satellite communications, domain awareness, in-orbit servicing and manufacturing, access to space | techUK, 9 September 2026 | Mismatch: the pages name no electronic part |
How many stocked microwave and high-Q lines have a tighter-tolerance sibling?
59 of 74. We joined our stock list, dated 23 September 2026, to the MLCC export and found 89 stocked lines in the Microwave RF, Ultra Microwave UF and High Q Low ESR HH series, 74 of them with a tolerance written in picofarads; for each we looked for another part in those three series with the same size, dielectric, capacitance and rated voltage but a smaller picofarad tolerance: 59 have one, 20 have one at plus or minus 0.03 pF or tighter, and 15 have none. The other 15 of the 89 carry a percentage tolerance and are not comparable on this test.
The twist is the shelf. For 13 of the 59 at least one tighter sibling is itself stocked; for the other 46 the tighter part is an order, not a shelf pick, and the plus or minus 0.02 pF parts sit in a UF series of which we stock 1 line. We have not seen this counted anywhere. A tighter sibling shares four catalogue fields with your part and differs in series, so Q and ESR still need your own check.
| Stocked microwave and high-Q lines | Count | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|
| In the stock list and the export | 89 | Reference set, stock as at 23 September 2026 |
| With a tolerance in picofarads | 74 | Comparable on tolerance |
| With a tighter sibling on size, dielectric, capacitance, voltage | 59 | Match on four fields; mismatch on tolerance, often on series |
| Of those, with a sibling at 0.03 pF or tighter | 20 | Match on four fields; mismatch on tolerance and series |
| Of those, with a sibling also on the shelf | 13 | Match on four fields; shelf as at 23 September 2026 |
| With no tighter sibling in the three series | 15 | Mismatch: already at the tightest step |
Which worked part numbers show the siblings, and what differs?
Take the stocked 0402 line RF15N0R1A500: 0.1 pF, plus or minus 0.05 pF, 50 V. Its siblings RF15N0R1Q500 and UF15N0R1Q500 go to plus or minus 0.03 pF and UF15N0R1P500 to plus or minus 0.02 pF, all on the same size, dielectric, capacitance, voltage and printed thickness of 0.50 plus or minus 0.05 mm; none of the three is stocked. The last column is for your incumbent part.
| Walsin part | Series as exported | Size, dielectric, value, tolerance, voltage | Match / mismatch | Your incumbent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
RF15N0R1A500 |
Microwave RF | 0402, NPO, 0.1 pF, ±0.05 pF, 50 V | Reference line, stocked as at 23 September 2026 | |
RF15N0R1Q500 |
Microwave RF | Same, ±0.03 pF | Match on four fields; mismatch on tolerance; not stocked | |
UF15N0R1P500 |
Ultra Microwave UF | Same, ±0.02 pF | Match on four; mismatch on tolerance and series; not stocked | |
HH15N2R4A500 |
High Q Low ESR HH | 0402, NPO, 2.4 pF, ±0.05 pF, 50 V | Reference line, stocked | |
UF15N2R4P500 |
Ultra Microwave UF | Same, ±0.02 pF | Match on four; mismatch on tolerance and series; not stocked | |
RF03N0R4B500 |
Microwave RF | 0201, NPO, 0.4 pF, ±0.1 pF, 50 V | Reference line, stocked | |
HH03N0R4A500 |
High Q Low ESR HH | Same, ±0.05 pF | Match on four; mismatch on tolerance and series; not stocked | |
RF15N1R4A500 |
Microwave RF | 0402, NPO, 1.4 pF, ±0.05 pF, 50 V | Stocked; no tighter sibling in the three series |
The export prints no Q, ESR or self-resonant frequency, so a tighter tolerance is the only dimension this table can compare. Our post on high-Q, low-ESR MLCC for RF helps you read the HH family, our note on crossing Johanson high-Q and RF families shows the cross method, and the RF range page and MLCC range page list what Walsin offers.
What do Walsin’s documents say about space and satellites?
Nothing. We converted all 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, to text and searched them: satellite and space grade appear in 0 of 28 files, and the datasheets for the RF, RH, UF and HH series are among those we hold. The four sheets tell you capacitance range and test conditions; none states a radiation, outgassing or vacuum qualification. The single mention of radiation, in the application guide, is a general warning not to expose parts to ozone, ultraviolet rays or radiation.
What will we not tell you about the United Kingdom?
Anything about UK space licensing, export control or procurement. We hold no office, entity or stock in the United Kingdom; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We state no duty rate, export-control position, customs procedure, transit time or carrier, and we give no legal or customs advice; confirm with your compliance team. We make no claim that any Walsin part is approved for flight. We hold neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949.
How Venatech helps
Start with your match network. Paste the capacitor into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts and lists Walsin candidates with match and mismatch fields, or upload your bill of materials to the BOM checker, up to 500 part numbers. The Hong Kong ready-stock list is a dated snapshot, 23 September 2026, never live-synced. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We work from Hong Kong, in small lots, which suits a low-volume space build, and you can request a quote through the site. We offer lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request, and we send the RF, UF or HH datasheet on request. Qualification stays with you.
The short version
For a United Kingdom satellite RF board, tolerance is the step you can move. 59 of 74 stocked microwave and high-Q lines have a tighter sibling, 20 of them at 0.03 pF or tighter, but only 13 have one on our shelf. Of 28 Walsin datasheets, 0 name a satellite or space grade, and we hold no flight screening data.
Send us the sub-picofarad lines on your match network and the tolerance each one needs. We will return the Walsin candidates with every difference stated. Which of your capacitors is a tolerance problem, and which is only a habit?

Frequently asked questions
What did the UK Space Strategy of September 2026 commit to?
Trade reports of 8 and 9 September 2026 say it plans 7.8 billion pounds through 2030, including 2.8 billion pounds for satellite connectivity and 30 million pounds for SaxaVord Spaceport. None names a component. We could not reach the strategy itself, so treat the figures as reported.
How many stocked microwave and high-Q lines have a tighter-tolerance sibling?
59 of 74 stocked lines with a picofarad tolerance, as at 23 September 2026, have a sibling in the RF, UF or HH series with the same size, dielectric, capacitance and voltage and a smaller tolerance. 13 of the 59 have a sibling that is also stocked. A sibling is a catalogue match, not a qualification.
Does a tighter tolerance mean better performance?
Not by itself. It is a tighter capacitance window. Q, ESR and self-resonant frequency are not in the export, and the sibling is often in another series. Check both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
Do Walsin datasheets state a space or satellite qualification?
No. We searched all 28 datasheets, 451 pages, for satellite and space grade: 0 of 28 contain either. None states a radiation, outgassing or vacuum qualification. Suitability for flight is a question for Walsin in writing.
Why is the tightest tolerance mostly not on the shelf?
The plus or minus 0.02 pF parts are in the Ultra Microwave UF series, of which we stock 1 line as at 23 September 2026. Tighter parts are an order to discuss, in small lots, not a shelf pick.
Do you give UK space licensing or export advice?
No. We hold no office or stock in the United Kingdom and state no export-control position, duty or transit time. Confirm those points with your compliance team. We supply parts, documents we hold, and cross-reference help.
