Sourcing Passive Components for Chile’s Copper Mines from Hong Kong: 229 of 639 Stocked Walsin MLCC Lines Have a Soft-Termination Twin, and 41 of Those Twins Are Taller Than the Standard Part

Soft termination MLCC for Chile’s mining equipment is a two-number question. We matched 639 stocked Walsin general purpose and middle-to-high-voltage lines, as at 23 September 2026, to the soft-termination series: 229 have a twin on size, dielectric, capacitance, tolerance and voltage. 41 of those have only a taller one. Check the height before the series.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC parametric export: 24,026 rows, 23,601 distinct part numbers. This post is for a buyer or design engineer at a Chilean mining-equipment, drive or electrical-house supplier who is reading a capacitor line on a bill of materials and wondering what a flexible termination would change. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a development, it names the source, the document date and the day we fetched it, 23 October 2026.

What did Chile’s copper forecast and a truck pilot show in 2026?

A smaller crop of copper and a larger interest in electric haulage. Cochilco cut its 2026 Chilean copper output forecast to 5,270,000 tonnes, down 2.6 percent, in a report covered on 11 August 2026, and expects 5,550,000 tonnes in 2027. A separate report dated 6 April 2026 says Codelco ran a pilot with a fully electric truck from SANY that carried 27 tonnes of copper over 680 km from its Radomiro Tomic division towards Puerto Angamos.

Neither report names a capacitor, a resistor or a supplier. The truck article does not say what electronics the vehicle uses, and we draw no conclusion about the parts in any mining machine. We have no relationship with Cochilco, Codelco or SANY.

How many stocked Walsin MLCC lines have a soft-termination twin?

229 of 639. We parsed all 24,026 rows of the MLCC export and joined our 639 stocked General Purpose and Middle to High Voltage lines to the 1,553 non-automotive soft-termination rows (SG and SH series) on size, dielectric, capacitance, tolerance and rated voltage: 168 of 490 general purpose lines match and 61 of 149 higher-voltage lines.

The twin is not always the same height. Of the 229, 182 have at least one soft-termination twin with the same nominal thickness; 41 have only taller twins, 29 of them at 0805; the other 6 are mixed. At 0201 the count is 0 of 68 stocked lines. Of the soft-termination parts themselves, 30 stocked lines are SH series, and none is SG or ST. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

Stocked size Lines With a soft-termination twin Match / mismatch
0201 68 0 Mismatch: the series does not offer the size
0402 119 30 Match on five fields; mismatch on series and termination
0603 133 65 Match on five fields; mismatch on series and termination
0805 130 66 Match on five fields; mismatch: 29 have only a taller twin
1206 92 44 Match on five fields; mismatch: 7 have only a taller twin
1210 43 12 Match on five fields; mismatch: 3 have only a taller twin
1808 and 1812 54 12 Match on five fields; mismatch: 2 have only a taller twin

Which worked part numbers show the twins, and what differs?

Take the stocked 0805 line 0805B103K201: X7R, 10 nF, plus or minus 10 percent, 200 V. SH21B103K201 shares those five fields in the SH series, but its listed thickness is 1.25 mm against 0.80 mm for the standard part. The 1206 line 1206B104K500 has two twins, SG31B104K500 and SH31B104K500, both 1.25 mm. The last column is for your incumbent part.

Walsin part Series as exported Size, dielectric, value, tolerance, voltage, thickness Match / mismatch Your incumbent
0805B103K201 Middle to High Voltage 0805, X7R, 10 nF, 10%, 200 V, 0.80 mm Reference line, stocked as at 23 September 2026
SH21B103K201 Soft Termination, SH, Ag-poly Same five fields, 1.25 mm Match on five fields; mismatch on series and thickness
1206B104K500 General Purpose 1206, X7R, 100 nF, 10%, 50 V, 0.80 mm Reference line, stocked

SH31B104K500 Soft Termination, SH, Ag-poly Same five fields, 1.25 mm Match on five fields; mismatch on series and thickness
0603B152K101 General Purpose 0603, X7R, 1500 pF, 10%, 100 V, 0.80 mm Reference line, stocked
SH18B152K101 Soft Termination, SH, Ag-poly Same five fields, 0.80 mm Match on five fields and thickness; mismatch on series
0402B102K500 General Purpose 0402, X7R, 1000 pF, 10%, 50 V, 0.50 mm Reference line, stocked
SH15B102K500 Soft Termination, SH, Ag-poly Same five fields, 0.50 mm Match on five fields; mismatch: thickness limit is plus or minus 0.20 mm, not 0.05

Our posts on soft-termination MLCC, SH, SG, ST and VT and on flex cracking and board bend explain the mechanism. The MLCC range lists the series.

What do Walsin’s datasheets say about bending and vibration?

They set different bend tests for different series, and the same vibration test, as our earlier posts on board bend also found. We read the test tables of all 26 MLCC datasheets we hold: 12 print a bend deflection of 1 mm, 2 print 3 mm, 6 print 5 mm, and 6 print none in that wording. The 5 mm group includes the SH, SG and ST soft-termination sheets, plus RT and the two Mega Cap sheets. The General Purpose and Middle to High Voltage sheets are in the 1 mm group.

Both the General Purpose and SH sheets set the same pass limit for X7R, within plus or minus 12.5 percent capacitance change, and the same vibration condition: 10 to 55 Hz, 1.5 mm total amplitude, 6 hours. The ST sheet lists 10 to 2000 Hz. These are Walsin’s laboratory test conditions, not field data, and a 5 mm deflection is a test, not a guarantee of how a board will behave.

What do Walsin’s documents say about mining?

Nothing. We converted all 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, to text and searched them: mining appears in 0 of 28 files. The word vibration appears in all 28, as a test line or a handling warning, and none connects it to an industry. We hold no qualification report for any machine type, and no mining customer is named on this page or implied.

The soft-termination sheets list “Lighting industry” and “Power supply and related industries” as typical uses for SH, and the SG sheet lists automotive; those are Walsin’s words, not ours.

What will we not tell you about Chile?

Anything about Chilean import, mining-safety or electrical-equipment rules. We hold no office, entity or stock in Chile; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We give no legal, customs or compliance advice and state no duty rate, transit time or carrier; confirm with your compliance team. We make no claim that any Walsin part is rated for a mine site.

How Venatech helps

Start with the cross-reference. Paste a capacitor line into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts and lists Walsin candidates with match and mismatch fields. Or upload a list to the BOM checker, up to 500 part numbers. The Hong Kong ready-stock list is a dated snapshot, 23 September 2026, never live-synced. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We work from Hong Kong, in small lots, and you can request a quote through the site. We offer lot and date-code traceability and a certificate of conformity per shipment on request. We hold neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949. The tables above came from our own export. Qualification stays with you.

The short version

For a Chilean equipment maker, the termination is a choice you can price in a footprint. 229 of 639 stocked lines have a soft-termination twin, 41 of those only in a taller package, and Walsin’s sheets test that series to 5 mm of bend against 1 mm for the standard one.

Send us one capacitor line from your drive or controller bill of materials and we will return the Walsin candidates with every difference stated. If a taller part will not fit your board, which of the 41 is yours?
