Manaus electronics and appliance makers in Brazil can move most Y5V capacitor lines to an X7R or X5R Walsin candidate. Of 74 Y5V lines on our 23 September 2026 Hong Kong stock list, 68 have a candidate at the same size, capacitance and voltage, and 35 have one on the shelf. Only 17 share the tolerance code, and none of those 17 is stocked.

This post is for a design engineer or buyer at an electronics or appliance plant in Manaus, Brazil, who has a Y5V capacitor on the bill of materials and wants to know what a Hong Kong source can offer. It is the second Brazil post. The first, on NP0 share in the stocked MLCC lines, looked at a different dielectric. Every part number below is real and every count is ours.
What is the Manaus industrial hub making in 2026?
Electronics, computing goods and motorcycles. Agência Gov, relaying Suframa figures on 14 October 2026, reported that the Manaus Industrial Pole billed 165.12 billion reais from January to August 2026, up 10.47% on the 149.47 billion of the same months of 2025. We read the article on 23 October 2026.
By sector, the same article puts computing goods at 21.82% of revenue, two-wheelers at 19.85% and electrical and electronic goods at 15.22%, ahead of chemicals at 10.84% and thermoplastics at 10.7%. It reports an average of 132,052 jobs a month over the eight months, and 135,080 workers in August. It says computing goods grew 15.11% over the period.
The article says nothing about components. Our view, labelled as ours: a hub of this size carries many designs of different ages, and the oldest designs are where Y5V capacitors survive. That is a reading of the shelf, not a claim about any plant.
Why is a Y5V line a problem on a Brazilian bill of materials?
Because Walsin’s own General Purpose approval sheet hardly mentions it. We opened 01_General_Purpose.pdf, the 21-page sheet dated September 2026: its title, features and temperature table name NP0, X7R, X6S, X7S and X5R, and the string Y5V appears in only three places. One is the ordering key, where the dielectric letter F means Y5V. The other two are test rows.
In the damp-heat row the sheet sets a limit of within 30% at 10 V and above for Y5V, against 12.5% for X7R, X5R, X6S and X7S at 10 V and above. The temperature table gives an operating range for five dielectrics and none for Y5V. Walsin’s MLCC export, 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx, has by our count exactly 2 Y5V rows among 23,601 distinct part numbers, both 470 nF at 1206 and 50 V.
Our shelf is different. We read the description field of the 23 September 2026 stock list and counted 74 lines described as Y5V, of which 73 return no row in the export. The export cannot answer a question about them, and the cross-reference tool cannot list them as a result. The Y5V post on the smallest dielectric codes explains the 2 export rows. How many stocked Y5V lines have an X7R or X5R Walsin candidate?
68 of 74 have one in the General Purpose series. For each of the 74 lines we looked for an X7R or X5R part with the same case size, the same capacitance and the same rated voltage: 68 have at least one, 35 have one that is itself on the shelf, and 6 have none. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

The 1812 row is the one to read twice: 6 of the 8 Y5V lines at 1812 have a candidate in the export, and none of the six is on the shelf. The 6 lines with no General Purpose candidate are two 0805 lines at 33 nF and 250 V, an 0805 line at 6.8 µF and 10 V, a 1210 line at 6.8 µF and 16 V, and two 1812 lines at 10 µF and 25 V and at 6.8 µF and 50 V. The two 33 nF lines have a Middle to High Voltage part, 0805B333K251, which is not on the shelf. The other four have none in any Walsin series.

What changes when a Y5V line moves to X7R or X5R?
Four fields change and the export does not tell you how much. Of the 74 stocked Y5V lines, 57 carry the Z tolerance code (−20/+80%) and 17 carry M (±20%); we found a candidate with the identical tolerance code for only 17 of the 74, and none of those 17 candidates is on the shelf. Every other candidate is tighter, typically ±10%.
A tighter tolerance is usually welcome, but it changes the part number and sometimes the stocking. Second, the dielectric: per 01_General_Purpose.pdf, X5R is rated −55 to +85 °C, X7R −55 to +125 °C, and Y5V has no range in the table. Third, height. Our 1206 row shows the Y5V part at 0.80 mm and its X7R candidate at 1.60 mm, so a shielded or low-clearance board needs a check, and the low-profile TT series post covers thin parts. Fourth, capacitance under bias. The export carries no DC-bias curve, as our DC-bias post explains, so a Class II swap must be checked in circuit.
Our house line applies: we will not tell you a candidate is the same part. We will show you where it differs. Confirm against both datasheets, and for the Y5V side we hold no Walsin datasheet row, so request the incumbent’s own documents. Qualify in your own circuit.
