Sourcing Passive Components for Montenegro’s Energy and Industrial Makers from Hong Kong: All 3,318 Walsin 1218 Resistors Are Rated 1 W in 75 Percent of a 2512 Footprint, and None Is on the Shelf

For a Montenegrin buyer sourcing passive components against a 2512 resistor rated 1 W, Walsin’s 1218 case is the footprint worth checking: we counted 3,318 Walsin 1218 part numbers, every one rated 1 W, in roughly 75 percent of the board area of a 2512. None is on our 23 September 2026 list, so the route is a factory order, with the differences stated.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) chip resistor export (64 non-empty .xlsx files, as at 2 November 2026): 234,815 rows, 234,401 distinct part numbers, in 58 series and 19 case-size labels. This post is for a procurement or design engineer at a Montenegrin energy, metering or industrial equipment maker with a 1 W resistor on the bill of materials. Every Walsin part number below is real and every count is ours, parsed from that export on 2 November 2026. The development it cites names its source, its date and the day we fetched it.

What did Montenegro’s statistics office publish about industry?

Quarterly industrial output swung hard in 2026. Montenegro’s statistics office, MONSTAT, reported on 29 July 2026 that total industrial production in the second quarter was up 20.0 percent on the second quarter of 2025, with manufacturing up 2.5 percent, mining and quarrying up 28.2 percent and electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply up 95.4 percent. Against the first quarter of 2026, total output was down 13.4 percent and manufacturing up 28.0 percent.

For a buyer, that is context and nothing more. A statistics release is not a component order, it names no part and no supplier, and we draw no conclusion about what any Montenegrin company buys. We have no relationship with MONSTAT.

Point What the source says Source date Match / mismatch
Industry, year on year Total production +20.0 percent in Q2 2026; manufacturing +2.5 percent MONSTAT, 29 July 2026 Match for context only
Electricity supply +95.4 percent year on year; -52.0 percent on Q1 MONSTAT, 29 July 2026 Mismatch with any component claim: it is an output index, not equipment
Components No component, supplier or resistor named MONSTAT Mismatch: nothing on passives

How many Walsin chip resistors come in the 1218 case?

3,318. We parsed the Size field of Walsin’s chip resistor export, 234,815 rows across 64 .xlsx files, and found the 1218 (metric 3248) case in five series: 969 part numbers each in the general purpose, automotive general purpose and LF 100 ppm series, 165 in the low-ohm current sense series and 246 in the automotive current sense series. Every one of the 3,318 carries a rated power of 1 W, so the case has no 1/4 W or 1/2 W row at all.

Three of the 3,318 are jumpers, one per general purpose series, for example WR18X000 PTL. The other 3,315 run from 0.020 ohm to the top of the general purpose range, and the 1218 case holds 992 distinct resistance values. We have not seen the 1218 case counted anywhere else, and our post on chip resistor power rating by case size shows how the ratings step with size in the other cases.

Is a 1218 resistor really smaller than a 2512 at the same 1 W?

On the size code, yes. The metric code in Walsin’s Size field reads 3248 for the 1218 and 6432 for the 2512, which is 3.2 by 4.8 mm against 6.4 by 3.2 mm: 15.4 square millimetres against 20.5, so the 1218 takes about 75 percent of the 2512 footprint. Walsin’s general purpose series rates 1,109 of its 1,249 rows at 2512 as 1 W and the other 140 as 2 W, while the 2010 rates 1,109 rows at 3/4 W and 140 at 1 W.

That is the finding: for a plain 1 W, 1 percent, 1 ohm line, the 1218 gives the same watt as the 2512 on a smaller pad, and a 2 W line needs the 2512. The cost is a layout change, because the pad pattern is different. Whether the pad, thermal relief and solder volume suit your board is not in the documents we hold in full for this case; we hold the WR general purpose datasheet, Walsin_WR_General_Purpose_Chip_Resistor.pdf (ASC_WR_V24, dated SEP 2016), and that datasheet is ten years old. Qualification stays with you.

Which Walsin parts match a 1 ohm 1 W 2512 line, and where do they differ?

Take a 1.00 ohm, 1 percent, 1 W line at 2512 as the incumbent. We read the five Walsin rows below straight from the export; two are 2512 parts that match the incumbent’s footprint, and three are 1218 parts that match its watt but not its pads. Column six is for your incumbent part.

Walsin part Size, series, value, TCR Match / mismatch Your incumbent
WR25W1R00FTL 2512, general purpose, 1.00 ohm, 1%, 1 W, TCR up to plus or minus 200 ppm Match on footprint, value, tolerance, rated power; TCR is a band to check; not stocked
WR25F1R00FTL 2512, general purpose, 1.00 ohm, 1%, 1 W, TCR up to plus or minus 100 ppm Match on footprint, value, tolerance, power; tighter TCR than the line above; not stocked
WR18W1R00FTL 1218, general purpose, 1.00 ohm, 1%, 1 W, TCR up to plus or minus 200 ppm Match on value, tolerance, rated power; mismatch on footprint: 3248 not 6432, new pad pattern; not stocked
MR18W1R00FTL 1218, general purpose automotive series, 1.00 ohm, 1%, 1 W Match on value, tolerance, power; mismatch on footprint; automotive-labelled series, so request the qualification report for the exact number; not stocked
WW18XR020FTL 1218, low-ohm current sense, 0.020 ohm, 1%, 1 W, TCR up to plus or minus 2100 ppm Mismatch on value: current sense range; shown because a 1218 sense resistor is the same footprint; not stocked

We will not tell you a part is a drop-in match. We will show you where it differs. The 2512 rows differ from each other in TCR, and the 1218 rows differ from both in board area.

Is any 1218 resistor on the Hong Kong shelf?

No. We joined our ready-stock list as at 23 September 2026, 1,125 part numbers in one .xlsx file, to the export on exact part number: none of the 3,318 1218 part numbers is on it, and among the 254 chip resistor lines the only 2512 line that joins is WR25X3301FTL. A join on exact string misses lines that carry an embedded space, which is a known export defect, so the real count may be slightly higher.

A 1218 line is therefore a factory order from Walsin, not a shelf pick, and we state no lead time because none is established in the documents we hold. The list is a dated snapshot, never live-synced. Our automotive MR series post covers the AEC-Q200 wording: Walsin says compliant, never certified.

What will we not tell you about Montenegro?

Anything about Montenegrin regulation, customs or conformity. We hold no office, entity or stock in Montenegro; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We state no duty, border procedure, transit time or carrier, and we give no legal or customs advice; confirm with your compliance team. We hold neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949.

Why buyers in Montenegro choose Venatech

A Montenegrin maker gets a distributor that shows its working. Venatech is an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong with a resistor export of 234,401 distinct part numbers across 58 series and 19 case sizes, an MLCC export of 23,601 distinct part numbers in 16 series, and a free cross-reference tool that decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers over 800,000+ crossable parts. Paste your incumbent and you get Walsin candidates with every difference stated, including the ones that count against us.

Small lots are welcome, the service runs from Hong Kong, and the ready-stock list is dated, so you know exactly which snapshot you are reading. We show mismatches as well as matches because a hidden mismatch is a scrapped board. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. Ask us for one of the 28 Walsin datasheets we hold (451 pages) and it comes by email, not in a brochure.

How can Venatech help a Montenegrin energy or industrial maker?

Start with the free cross-reference tool: paste the 2512 or 1218 number you use and read the Walsin candidates field by field. Upload a list to the BOM checker, up to 500 part numbers, to find every high-power resistor that has a 1218 option. The Hong Kong ready-stock list is a snapshot dated 23 September 2026, not live. Small lots are fine, and you can request a quote through the site; we publish no prices here.

A worked example from our own export: a 1.00 ohm, 1 percent, 1 W line at 2512 maps to WR25W1R00FTL on the same pads, or to WR18W1R00FTL on a new, smaller pad. Our resistor range lists the families. Qualification stays with you.

The short version

A 1218 Walsin resistor carries 1 W in about 75 percent of a 2512’s board area, and the case holds 3,318 part numbers in five series, 411 of them current sense. None is on our list as at 23 September 2026, so it is a factory order with a layout change. MONSTAT’s 29 July 2026 release is context only.

Send us one 1 W resistor from your Montenegrin bill of materials and we will return the Walsin parts with every difference stated, including the pad. Could your board take the 1218 pattern, or must the 2512 stay?

Frequently asked questions

How many Walsin chip resistors are in the 1218 case?

We counted 3,318 part numbers in Walsin’s chip resistor export, in five series: 969 each in three general purpose series, 165 low-ohm current sense and 246 automotive current sense. All 3,318 are rated 1 W, and three of them are jumpers.

Is a 1218 resistor smaller than a 2512 at 1 W?

On the metric size code, yes: 3248 is 3.2 by 4.8 mm, about 15.4 square millimetres, against 6432 at 20.5, so roughly 75 percent of the area. The pad pattern differs, so it is a layout change, not a drop-in swap.

Does Walsin rate 2512 resistors at 2 W?

Some. In the general purpose series 1,109 of 1,249 rows at 2512 are 1 W and 140 are 2 W. A 2 W requirement therefore stays at 2512, and a 1 W requirement can look at the 1218.

Is any 1218 Walsin resistor in Hong Kong stock?

No. None of the 3,318 appears on our ready-stock list dated 23 September 2026, so a 1218 line is a factory order. The list is a snapshot, not live, and we state no lead time.

Did MONSTAT say anything about resistors?

No. The 29 July 2026 release gives second-quarter industrial production up 20.0 percent year on year, with electricity supply up 95.4 percent. It names no component or supplier, and we draw no conclusion about Montenegrin purchasing.

Do you give Montenegrin customs or conformity advice?

No. We hold no Montenegrin entity or stock. We give no legal or customs advice; confirm with your compliance team. We supply parts, and qualification stays with you.
